Offers Day 1st March 2012

Anyone else feeling like we do about the impending Offers Day?

Not at all a foregone conclusion that DS will get into any of first five choices (all selective, two 11+ passes, one 11+ result due this coming week) so rather up in the air.... Sixth choice is okayish but DS has talked it down to the point that he is now desperately hoping it's not his one and only choice! Otherwise DS is being quite mature about considering that he could end up at any of the schools and is already thinking about which friends from primary school he is likely to stay in touch with etc.....

It all feels a bit as if life is on hold till 1st March.....

My DS has been offered his first choice (grammar). We are so happy!!!!! Grin Grin Grin

tiredemma · 01/03/2012 17:57

DS1 offered his first choice. Delighted- its such a fantastic school.

really over the moon.

Bethnella · 01/03/2012 18:13

5th place...DD so sad...she doesn't understand the lottery of it and feels like a failure...prepping appeal as we speak!

goingtoofast · 01/03/2012 18:18

DD1 got her first choise, am soooo pleased. DD2 will go to the same school and then I will stress again when it's time to find a school for DS!

CheesyWellingtons · 01/03/2012 18:18

It looks like a lot of people got what they wanted but so sorry to hear of those who have not got in where they want to be - it must be so, so stressful.

I am regarded as a neurotic mummy too as we had plan A and plan B (and a plan C). One mum who has always been a bit sniggery about back up plans has applied to a school locally which is really poor - I don't think she realises the new head also has another school to head up with a non-joint governing body. I'm really glad the wait is over and really glad that we stressed ourselves out putting plan B and C in place - as there are people around us with stacks of cash and no school to go to.

markusadam · 01/03/2012 18:21

we got 1st place

Avantia · 01/03/2012 18:30

Only just got Surrey email .

serendipity16 · 01/03/2012 18:32

Does anyone know how you appeal or what you're supposed to do for an appeal?
We got our 5th option which my son is gutted about esp as its not in our borough and unlikely none of his friends will be going.
Trying to cheer him up :)

justmumof1 · 01/03/2012 18:36

We got 4th pref, which we were really keeping our fingers crossed for. (First three too much of a longshot but we are on the waiting list now.)

DS is over the moon!

Had no problems logging in for the results either. Did not wait for the email, just logged in just after 5pm and hey presto!!

What a relief!!!!!!!! Grin

madhairday · 01/03/2012 18:40

So sorry Bethnella and others who are disappointed.

Huge congratulations to those who are happy with the allocation!

DD got second choice which we're very happy with, 1st choice was selective grammar with only 50 spaces and hundreds of applicants so not expected, plus 2nd choice a lot nearer and most of her friends will go there, so all good :)

Northernlurker · 01/03/2012 18:41

I don't want to be miserable thread monitor woman BUT..........

there's a post on this thread from a few hours ago from a woman who like all of us is excited about today but she's also clearly bereft because she can't ring her father to tell him, as he died two weeks ago. So I think in amongst all the rejoicing and understandable anxiety it wouldn't kill us to acknowledge posts like that would it?

hanahsaunt - sorry for your loss and congratulations on your good news today.

OP - glad you are pleased. Thanks for the thread. It's encouraging to read so much good news.

Dd is very pleased here and there's quite a lot of her friends going to so that's nice.

Bethnella · 01/03/2012 18:43

Thanks, I feel like this thread has kept me sane the last few days, not too sure how I feel now the wait is finally over.....

Blu · 01/03/2012 18:49

HannahsAunt - so sorry your good news brings the reality of you loss so deeply home. Congratulations on your first preference.

madhairday · 01/03/2012 18:51

Northern - you're right. I haven't read all the thread properly, and hadn't seen that message. So just to say thinking of you hanahsaunt

StressedSian · 01/03/2012 18:51

dd was offered 3rd out of 3 choices. No selective place for her at comprehensive school 14km away (not surprisingly). (65 selective places based on the entrance exam). So it's out with the cheque book tomorrow to accept an independent school offer- we just don't know which one... and have literally hours left now to make the decision. Another sleepless night.
All the best to all of you and I wish all your DCs much success wherever they go. Thanks again for all the support. Bye!

gazzalw · 01/03/2012 18:52

Yes, I've just commented to SIL that I don't know whether we feel elated/deflated/relieved/disappointed or a mixture of all of the above.....It is a strange time.

Think we need to drink lots of Wine, sleep it off and mull over the options (for those of us for whom the result wasn't necessarily best-case-scenario) - it will probably all seem a lot more positive in the morning...

Yes, Northernlurker, you are right - we should consider the feelings of those for whom the good news is tinged with sadness after family bereavements....

OP posts:
StressedSian · 01/03/2012 18:56

agree- my condolences to those bereaved and sick and who have REAL bad stuff to deal with, not just all this middle class angst.

Blu · 01/03/2012 19:01

gazz, are you concerned, then? The grammar is presumably a top school? Are you wondering about Graveney?

FishMont · 01/03/2012 19:04

First time doing this and didn't apply online in Wandsworth. However, my application that I sent via snail mail had my email address. Does anyone know if that means that we will have to wait until Saturday as presumably the letter was sent out today second class post? Any help greatly appreciated!

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 19:25

Yes, Sian, you are right. It must be awful to not have your nearest and dearest any more to share the news with Sad

mummytime · 01/03/2012 19:28

They should be sent first class. This isvafterbthe year that an LEA sent out its notification 2nd class, but the faith schools sent theirs 1st class.

bizzey · 01/03/2012 19:33

FishMont i am Wandsworth and did it by the red van as well....i was under th impression we would get results tommorow ??

MrsWeasley · 01/03/2012 19:37

I had an email to say DS has been offered a place in our first choice Grin the email also said unfortumately you have not been offered a place Hmm

Thats clear then!!

FishMont · 01/03/2012 19:40

let's hope that red van arrives for tomorrow as friends all offered places and we're still waiting!

sisterbaby · 01/03/2012 20:00

Smug Catholic alert! All those years of excrutiating boredom and tedium at mass on Sunday and making sure to be seen by the priest after church have paid off. Middle son got his first choice, an outstanding boys' Catholic school about five minutes walk from our house. Eldest daughter already in an outstanding girls school. But my conscience still says that there should be no selection on faith, postcode, intelligence or ability to fork out thousands. Why should going to church on Sunday give you access to a better education than someone with no religious affiliation? But we'll play the system as long as we have to. (*Oftsted's opinion, not personal)
