Offers Day 1st March 2012

Anyone else feeling like we do about the impending Offers Day?

Not at all a foregone conclusion that DS will get into any of first five choices (all selective, two 11+ passes, one 11+ result due this coming week) so rather up in the air.... Sixth choice is okayish but DS has talked it down to the point that he is now desperately hoping it's not his one and only choice! Otherwise DS is being quite mature about considering that he could end up at any of the schools and is already thinking about which friends from primary school he is likely to stay in touch with etc.....

It all feels a bit as if life is on hold till 1st March.....

can anybody help? I want to get advice about appealing - have looked on Amazon for books about school appeals, but can see that most are a few years old. Google says that there is a new Appeals Code in 2012 - does this mean that any books before that are out of date? Also new Admissions Code in 2012, but friend says that won't apply till later?? I am confused!!

BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 09:24

Just logged in on the off chance that there might be a glitch in the system and I can view our offer early but not happening.

I've go NO PATIENCE.

Congrats to all those that got good result.

Viva, you feeling bit more positive this morning? Hows your DD? The allocated school sounds v good though, so in that way you are lucky...could be so much worse. You've done your utmost now, looking into appeal and putting DD on waiting list.

I can't stop logging in, just in case.

Cat2405 · 01/03/2012 09:25

Hi theotherloobyloo - Have you tried ACE?

northernmonkey · 01/03/2012 09:27

I'm in east sussex and waiting. Was told it would be this evening too. I really cannot wait much longer!!! :(

TobyLerone · 01/03/2012 09:36

What happens when you log in? I've got the summary page. Is there somewhere else you have to go when they release the offers, or does it just show on that page?

I only applied to 2 for DD. 1st choice was a school for which there was an entrance exam for out-of-catchment-area children, and 2nd was local high school. DD didn't pass 11+. She wants 2nd choice, I want 1st choice.

Because I've only applied to 2, is it likely that she won't get a place at either?

KS2L6 · 01/03/2012 09:41

Happy, happy! Got school of choice. 83 % A-C (71% inc maths and english), 41% EBacc, fab music department, science and maths. Couldn't be happier. Hope that even those of you that feel less happy at the end of today are able to find good solutions.

All the best

I go onto eadmissions website, click on school admission and get the 'online secondary outcomes' page coming up. From there it asks me to log in. Then I get a list with the option to 'View the outcome of your application', but that link is not clickable yet.

hackneyLass · 01/03/2012 09:46

DS told me before he trotted off to school today that he thought the class teacher told them. Have wonderful vision of them all dressed up as book characters, DS as Arthur Dent from Hitchhikers Guide, eagerly looking up at teach as she reads out their schools (which, being London, could be anything from ecstatic delight to grinding despair). This thought will keep me going till this eve...

BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 09:46

Fab news KS2, you must be so chuffed Smile. The school sounds great.

Here's hoping for more good outcomes for everybody.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 09:53

im going to go crazy... you reckon we could cheekly ask the teacher lol

ChickensHaveNoLips · 01/03/2012 09:57

Woooohooooo! DS got his first choice! Can't wait to tell him at pick up Grin

TobyLerone · 01/03/2012 10:01

Sorry CustardCake, I thought I'd made it clear enough. The school with the test only has an entrance exam for out-of-catchment-area children. It is not a grammar school. We don't find out if she's passed the test until they offer/don't offer her a place today.

I know that there is no priority for those who only put down 2 choices. Neither would I expect any, obviously. 2nd choice school is local, as I said. I suppose my question should have been, "what do I do if she doesn't get offered a place at either school?"

I didn't have to worry about this last year with DS. He passed 11+ and was offered a grammar place.

ByTheWay1 · 01/03/2012 10:02

We logged on at midnight to find DD got her first choice too, so she knew first thing.....

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 10:06

ok i dont mind any of the choices 1 to 6 but being where we live every single school is oversubscribed and its getting tougher and tougher as limited places available ,, clearly the councils do the best they can but what if there just arent enough spaces?? ...

waited 18months for a year 4 space when we moved here thats how i know how tight it is

what if you get NO school???

BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 10:07

Ah, what a lovely feeling Chickens, you'll be racing to pick him up at home time! Great news.

theotherloobyloo · 01/03/2012 10:08

Thanks Cat2405, great tip. Are there really 2404 other cats on Msnet?

I've checked and, yes, the new Appeal Code (2012 version) does apply from now - so be careful if you buy books to maks sure they are recent!! I don't want to waste time doing a lot of reading for no point.

Crossed fingers for people still trying to fid out results ...

I cann see that other people are already asking questions about appeals - if I find out anything useful I'll post it here xx

I would think if you were able to put 6 choices down and get the form in by the deadline it would be unlikely you wouldn't get offered a place at one of the six - especially if you've included a reasonable range of schools (in priority order)

  • Harder for people moving into area after deadline and those who didn't get form in on time I'd imagine.
BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 10:11

You will get a school mooze, even if it is not one of your choices.

They will offer you any school left that has a place, even if it's miles away in another borough.

Thanks, Custard. That helps a lot.

Fingers crossed! There are 3 high schools in my town. 2 are dreadful and I'd rather homeschool DD than send her to those! The other is the nearest one to my house and is the one I applied for as 2nd choice. So if she gets into that one, I'll be pleased.

So...about the website (sorry, I'm an idiot first-timer!). I've logged in and have the Applicant Summary page. Where do the offers actually show up when they're ready? Do I have to look elsewhere on the website, or will they show up on that page when I refresh? Or do they send an email?

mummytime · 01/03/2012 10:20

If anything disastrous happen, such as not being offered anywhere, it may be illegal but does happen. Then start a new thread here, there are some fab gurus who can give you great advice!

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 10:23
