Offers Day 1st March 2012

Anyone else feeling like we do about the impending Offers Day?

Not at all a foregone conclusion that DS will get into any of first five choices (all selective, two 11+ passes, one 11+ result due this coming week) so rather up in the air.... Sixth choice is okayish but DS has talked it down to the point that he is now desperately hoping it's not his one and only choice! Otherwise DS is being quite mature about considering that he could end up at any of the schools and is already thinking about which friends from primary school he is likely to stay in touch with etc.....

It all feels a bit as if life is on hold till 1st March.....

BoobyBrown - what are the grounds of appeal?

Stroppy40 · 01/03/2012 06:01

Viva - most of the schools in my area can only dream of 65%!!!! It's not all about scores on paper as some of my friends have found (the schools were so hell bent on results that they ignore bullying etc). A number of those children are now doing great at my DD's 37% school having been moved. I'd still take 65% as a success.

gazzalw · 01/03/2012 06:08

Morning everyone. Hope your DD's result seems more appealing this morning VivaLeBeaver - I guess on the bright side at least it was an offer of a school....

It seems to me that there are always grounds for appeal so tap into the experience that there is on here and on the 11+ Forum... .it's just a question of finding out what argument is the most forceful/convincing to use.....

Still a way to go for the London results - had a sneaky peak this morning at our application and there's not even the page up with the accept/reject information on it......Typical....

Have a good strong Brew and get those WineWine in the fridge for later on!

Viva, sorry about your DD. I bought this book for a friend last year when she was appealing to get her DS into the school I don't want DD to go to, rather than the school I do want DD to go to, very ironic !

They did win their appeal which was on the grounds the school they wanted would be better to facilitate the sports he plays. I'm having it back if DD doesn't get offered a place where she wants . It has GCSE results of 48% versus our catchment school at 62% (we have 4 Grammars locally) but I know it's smaller size, fabulous Art department and Ofsted outstanding for the extent to which pupils feel safe, make it the right place for DD.

Nothing has happened over night on our LEA website. Roll on 4pm. Good luck everyone.

I can't believe how nervous I feel, my son and husband seem not to remember it's today we find out but i've got butterflies and feel a bit sick. We have about 25% chance of our top three and really hoping not to go fourth choice or lower. I'll get the result by email on my way home from work hope everyone ends up in the right school for them.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 06:42

sleepless night,

Voidka · 01/03/2012 06:44

No email overnight - tried to log onto the Nottinghamshire website and its crashed!

mummytime · 01/03/2012 06:46

For those of you who don't get what you want: appeals are won on much broader grounds than for infant schools. I didn't appeal for DC1 and now think that was a mistake, fortunately he got in from the waiting list, and he started at place 25, so there can be quite a bit of movement.
Just remember deep breaths and try not to be the ones crying at the school gates this afternoon or tomorrow.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 06:50

65% gcse pass rate is excellent compared to enfield schools , im looking at every school on my list being between 42% 54% ( with the grammer being 98%)
not sure how im going to get through today

universalis · 01/03/2012 06:51

great advice mummytime I remember when my daughter applied and there were at least four mums crying at the gates not a great reassurance to their children. We apply to catholic schools and our primary isnt a feeder so when my daughter got her place I felt quite shy of asking anyone what school they got in case it was bad news, hope my son is as blessed

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 01/03/2012 06:53

Dd has her first preference- email arrived at 3am so am now knackered and have to go to work dressed as a bear for Book Day.
Smiling though!

Fingers crossed for those still waiting.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/03/2012 06:54

Wynken, thanks for the book recommendation, have orderd it. Just waiting now to break dd's heart, while trying to convince her the other school is fine. Sad

gazzalw · 01/03/2012 06:55

Happy day for you MoreCrackThanHarlem -at least you can get on with Book Day and enter into the true spirit.....

65% pass rate is well above the national average.
Try not to be too disheartened.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 07:06

3am gosh... was it email and result on email ..?

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 07:07

Ours aren't sent out to this evening according tot he council website! As it happens, DS2 is going to a private secondary but I am curious as to whether he got the grammar or the comp.

Having done the whole nervous waiting thing in half term - you have my sympathies!

Voidka · 01/03/2012 07:11

Have finally managed to log on and DS has been offered his 1st choice. He is very happy and I am relieved (although we are in catchment and feeder school I was worried because its so over subscribed).

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 07:11

( this evening ) BOO,

i thought the whole thing of doing it online was you found out quicker???... ggrrrr i think the 1st march starts in the morning not the end of the day .. ( thats me just sulking)

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 07:22

Even if you've not got your first choice yet there is generally a fair bit of movement in the waiting lists in the first weeks and beyond.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 07:23

I wonder if they are releasing the results in batches to ease the burden on the system - I've logged on and DS2s result isn't there.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 07:26

yes ( soupdragon) i think your right.... i just would have libed to have been the first to know lol... ok time to log off the computer world and head out the door , be back this evening every one hopefully with news of ( one school from our list )

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 07:29

I thought they'd be out this morning - when I heard an email arrive on my phone early this morning I assumed that is why it was. However, my council website says they'll be sent this evening. Which is still "on" 1st March I guess :)

gazzalw · 01/03/2012 07:33

When they sent one of the grammar results by email in January they assuredly did it in batches alphabetically methinks..... it makes sense really doesn't it....but if they do this at 5.00 pm so people could be waiting a matter of hours.....

OP posts:
missnevermind · 01/03/2012 07:38

Has anybody in Birmngham had any results yet? Still waiting Sad

gazzalw · 01/03/2012 07:39

Sorry I meant some people not so people!
