Hi
Apologies if this has been done this year, but I found a similar thread very supportive when DD started the exam treadmill (not at Uni) and we are about to start again with DS.

Milliboy is 15, late Summer baby so cannot get a job until the end of the Summer hols, when they will have all gone. Good news is - this gives him more revision time Grin

He is at a boys selective Grammar school, so the pressure is on to achieve. He also wants to aim for a decent Uni so understands that good GCSE grades are vital.

Still doesn't make the whole process any easier for him or me :)

Who else has boarded the 2011 Exam Express?

Hi Henni! Yes, DS is getting very tired now, I think he is a bit run down in general so hopefully the Easter Break will do them all good.

Welcome Aboard Frantic51 - another Latin candiate too!

There will be a long line of us at that bar soon Grin

Slightly in awe of his work ethic as he revised all weekend long. I hardly did any work but will not be admitting that to him. Heaping loads of praise of him for the hardwork.

Hi all - are we looking forward to them going back? One the one hand, DD, TBF, has done loads of work this holiday. And we got the results of her Maths module 9 (She got an A). But she has also been so droopy, limp and diva-ish it is driving me crazy.

Deep breaths.

NotaMopsa · 26/04/2011 19:30

Balia - well done DD but module 9? Sounds a lot

DD did linear maths which i bemoaned at the time but now think was a good thing

Report
balia · 26/04/2011 19:58

She hasn't done all 9 modules, I think they just enter them for the ones they think are appropriate and then the top 2 scores count. So module 9 is 'A' grade stuff. I think. Something to do with UMS marks.

She has only got 12 exam papers to sit so I'm glad she's done a mixture of modules, early entries and coursework - it has eased the pressure of these final months and she has paced herself really well. But I can see it wouldn't suit all.

Thanks for the welcome Milliways. ds2 had his heart set on Uni to study finance or property. Now he's not so sure although I think whatever root he takes he will end up in business. Nothing like £9000 per year uni fees to focus the mind. All credit though he has started exploring other routes in and the possibility of getting a sponsored place. Hope he hasn't peeked to early with the revision and that this weekend will be the best we will see!

So, we are in the last few weeks before exams start! DS did a load of revision this last weekend despite the good weather - I have just bought his favourite chocolate to ply him with. :)

How is everyone coping?

(Pixie - I hope you are still lurking and will come back & update us with your DDs progress?)

DD1 (who will probably read this - hello!) is coping well on the whole - did quite a lot of revision over the weekend and is managing most of her (fairly ambitious) revision timetable. She has given me custody of her laptop cable (the battery's knackered so it won't work without it) to limit her Internet time. She seems to be using occasional meltdowns as a sort of pressure valve, which is wearing but understandable. I can't work out whether I want the exams to start, so that at least we can start crossing them off, or am dreading it, because then we'll be running out of revision time...

Milliways · 03/05/2011 22:09

A2363 - are you like me then and have the exams in your diary/on wall calendar etc? I think if DS has a pm exam I will be phonong from work to check he is on the bus!

Glad to know I am not the only MNer who can be stalked by the kids - they have occassionally said "ask MN" though :)

Anyone else going on an early holiday this year? We are going at the start of July, before school hols, as DS is my youngest. Can't wait!

Latest meltdown today - caused by a letter from her college asking her to confirm the 6 subjects she wants to do on bridging week. This is 'too much pressure' and she can 'work no harder' and 'it'll all start again' as soon as she has finished this round of exams.

Phew. Tears galore round the dinner table. Have told her she doesn't have to go to college at all, she can stay home and get ready to be the primary carer for her elderly grandparents. People who can wipe a bottom will always have a job, have told her.

She has since done 3 hours of art 'evaluation'.

Pass the wine.

No, DD is still expected to be in school. Have others started exam leave, then? DD has already done her English exam so nothing Monday - Tuesday is RE or RS or some such thing, Christianity 1 & 2. Her next biggie is English Lit the week after. Have planned a night away next weekend in a nice spa hotel, reading Lit poetry to each other and trying to get some fresh air down her!

Her prom dress arrived today and needs taking in.

DS broke up on Thursday, but went in today for a optional revision class this am. I think all the schools around here finished today as most exams start Monday.

He doesn't get a prom as a single sex school that 90+% stay on to 6th form - so they get a party with a girls school when they leave at 18.

My baby boy has just completed his last day of compulsory education today. and he has to go to his friends funeral tomorrow. Let me explain- he did not attend the same secondary as this friend but kept in touch. So currently cushioned from impact. Tomorrow will be incedibly hard, but I am so worried that he will stop working completely. (Not attending is not an option). Any suggestions- his first exam is Monday.
