Hi
Apologies if this has been done this year, but I found a similar thread very supportive when DD started the exam treadmill (not at Uni) and we are about to start again with DS.

Milliboy is 15, late Summer baby so cannot get a job until the end of the Summer hols, when they will have all gone. Good news is - this gives him more revision time Grin

He is at a boys selective Grammar school, so the pressure is on to achieve. He also wants to aim for a decent Uni so understands that good GCSE grades are vital.

Still doesn't make the whole process any easier for him or me :)

Who else has boarded the 2011 Exam Express?

maths and business studies for ds2. Already has a maths grade C but hoping to improve on this. Its his birthday today. Sitting here reflecting worrying about exams but 16 years ago he was born 9 weeks early weighing 2lb ll0z with very little chance of survival. I can't believe he/we have come so far

MABS · 06/06/2011 15:35

aaww lateseptember, many congrats on him making 16. my dd was born10 weeks early so i can really relate.

balia · 06/06/2011 16:14

Where does the time go? Sigh.

How was Maths for everyone? DD seems happy-ish.

MABS · 06/06/2011 16:32

ok ish dd said re the maths

slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 16:33

hard but fine

Milliways · 06/06/2011 16:48

DS says it was the hardest paper he has ever sat (Edexel, higher tier), but that he did get the majority of the Questions (was debating if they also had an "impossible" one!)

OP posts:
slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 16:54

the last 2 were hardest i understand

Cupawoman · 06/06/2011 16:57

My son said the maths was fine (AQA).

slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 16:58

oh yes, AQA here too

Cupawoman · 06/06/2011 16:59

Physics tomorrow. Anyone else?

Mars · 06/06/2011 16:59

Can't remember if I signed in. Am signing in. Also have DS1 taking A levels and off to Nottingham in the Autumn.

Merrylegs · 06/06/2011 17:11

Milliways, DS said the same (same paper). He hopes that means the pass mark will be lower!

jgbmum · 06/06/2011 17:14

Milliways - relieved by your post, DS did 6 practice papers at the weekend (edexcel) and said he found today's harder than any he had done before.

slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 17:27

history tomorrow

MABS · 06/06/2011 17:45

higher tier Aqa here too. Nothing now til next Maths on Friday

jgbmum · 06/06/2011 17:50

Hi MABS, same for us too. Thank goodness for a few days break

emmspemms · 06/06/2011 19:05

Maths was ok , but he is doing foundation level , so definitely needs to have a good result ( or he'll be doing it again !)
At the last parents evening the maths teacher told us of a boy in upper 6th taking Foundation Maths for the 5th time, as his Uni place is depending on a maths GCSE as well as his A level grades !
History tomorrow , Welsh on Thursday and Maths again on Friday , a busy week.

aliena · 06/06/2011 20:42

Hi my DD also said that the Edexcel Maths was the most difficult paper she'd ever done so she was hugely relieved when I told her about the comments on here. Some girls came out crying! And I was worried all afternoon about the builders using pneumatic drills to break concrete yards from the examination room which the school did nothing about.

Physics (school failed to complete syllabus), Biology and History tomorrow for her. Fingers crossed the builders aren't there.

aliena · 06/06/2011 21:50

Re the Edexcel Maths today, a friend's school is making an official complaint to the Exam Board. Not quite sure what the matter was with this paper and don't want to cross examine DD.

t0lk13n · 06/06/2011 22:04

It`s going ok in my house. My son said Maths was hard in places - foundation - took it early twice and had D both times. So third time lucky! It took me 7 times to get my Maths O Level so plenty of hope for him yet! He too has History, Welsh and then Maths again this week! Hope everyone on here is ok :-D

Yellowstone · 06/06/2011 22:17

To all the Edxcellers, same here. DS2 said stupidly hard (I'd have preferred he hadn't then regaled me with the ones he left out and the one his teacher confirmed he'd definitely got wrong....).

History and Biology tomorrow too. Just finished Glee and now on Facebook.

Yellowstone · 06/06/2011 22:22

aliena the builders thing is mad. What are the school thinking of? Hasn't anyone complained?

pipsqueak · 06/06/2011 22:22

another one here who found edexcel higher maths hard today

t0lk13n · 06/06/2011 22:26

His Maths exam board is WJEC.

aliena · 06/06/2011 22:43

Hi Yellowstone, I have emailed the school about the builders and hope that it will be resolved tomorrow. Remarkably DD hasn't mentioned the ear splitting noise. Maybe it was because she was engrossed with this over tricky Edexcel maths paper. Or maybe I am getting old....
