Hi all
I am new to this. I am loving this site.
Has anyone's DS taken an 11+ exam at Whitgift or Trinity this year. We have taken both and have an interview at Whitgift.
Any tips for a first timer.

I think we may have a wildebeest in the box of plastic animals....

Can anyone help me compose a compelling ransom note? I have Dr B in the boot of the car. Failing that does anyone have a DH that is a Dentist? Marathon man with Dustin Hoffman comes to mind :) Apologies too much Vino for breakfast.

ha ha to all the comments lately Grin, I think the waiting is getting to all of us!!!! Blush

SoupDragon · 25/01/2012 12:46

Interview over - have absolutely no idea how DS2 did but no peacocks, wallabies or wildebeest were harmed

Apparenyly they've not had any boys bringing in animals yet this year so there is an option to make your son stand out in the crowd :o

Seeline · 25/01/2012 12:55

Grin Glad you survived Soup - fingers crossed now.
My handbag is not big enough for a wildebeest so having to rethink our 'object' Wink

As expected, he was interviewed by an English teacher as this would have been his weakest paper from the exam. The teacher looked about 12... as did the maths teacher who was interviewing at the same time.

Asterisk · 25/01/2012 13:38

At least it's over with Soup -- well done to your DS, sure he was a credit to you. So did he have to analyse Keats? And did he still get maths Qs even though interviewed by English teacher?

Still no confirmation of interview letter from Trinity for us. Beginning to think DH imagined it...

Margoswaltz · 25/01/2012 13:52

@Asterix - Received call about 10 days ago re interview at T this Saturday but still no confirmation letter

frankies69 · 25/01/2012 13:56

Hi , I have posted a new thread but wondered if anyone on this thread is awaiting/or heard re Alleyns interviews for 11+/year 7 ....not sure my stress levels can cope :)

frankies69 · 25/01/2012 16:27

good luck EHN, sorry not applied for Alleyns Grin

EHN · 25/01/2012 18:57

Thanks very much Frankies-much appreciated

beanie34 · 25/01/2012 19:33

Soupdragon and frankies69.

You are a real tonic, if your DS's and my DS are succesful at W along with all of the others who have posted we will have to identify ourselves on transition day, some sort of peacock feather worked into our clothing me thinks! :)
Our/my DS last interview on Saturday at RGS. I will then officially start counselling! Actually better than that I will just keep logging in and tap into this wonderful circle of people and the support you have offered.

stresscity · 25/01/2012 21:06

Hi all-FEEEWWWWW! Interview over. Hopefully I will sleep better tonight Smile I do have some inside info to share with you from the horses mouth. 500 sat the 11+ and 200 passed so if nothing else the boys have done really well to get this far! However now 1 in 3 chance on this last stage. Exam, any scholarship taken and interview all taken into account for final decision. I am pleased that interview is over however got a gut feeling and it aint a good gut. Soup-I should have stood up and asked if you were there, in heinsite probably would have looked a complete nutcase asking if anyone knows of a soupdragon here Grin. Hope info helps.

SoupDragon · 25/01/2012 21:14

I did wonder :) We were there at 11:55 - I was the tall slim gorgeous supermodel lookalike with the devastatingly handsome son.

stresscity · 25/01/2012 21:44

Oh Soup-what a shame i missed you, we sound like sisters too Grin- We were gone by 10 Sad

Selina · 25/01/2012 22:25

Ok ladies , I've been reading this every night before I go to sleep.its better than a book.
Question : you may have touched upon this but does anyone know how many boys sat W and how many they take on in year 7 .?

Love the peacock feather idea . I've got a kangaroo I made in year 8 , ( dont ask me why i still have it ) I could dip it in bleach .
:o

There is a reasonable amount of mystery, as different parents that I know have asked that question at interview and have been told different numbers!

Whitgift and Trinity vary in their admissions policy in that Trinity aims to admit the same number of boys in each year group whilst Whitgift will allow the number of boys in a yeargroup to vary to a certain extent - it is all dependent on how many they can fit in. The numbers quoted as having applied to Whitgift this year for 11+ have varied between 600 and 900. Certainly there is common agreement that it is a record year! I can't remember whether there are 2 or 3 classes in Lower First at present but the 11+ entry will probably be in the order of 100-135 boys.

Bearing in mind many boys will have sat for a number of schools, the top 100 or so in the exams will get offers/scholarships (assuming they haven't managed to fail the interview!). Then will come the art/dt/sports and music scholarships/awards. Then comes the difficult bit in deciding how many more non-scholarship places to award.

Trinity would appear to have set the academic bar higher than Whitgift, based on the boys that I know who have been interviewed and/or scholarship-assessed by one or both.

mydaddy · 25/01/2012 23:32

My DS1 is in U1[Year7] at W.

For that year group the total number is 203 and made up
of 9 classes. I reckon that if your DS has made it to interview
then he has a good chance of being accepted.

Good luck to all of you,my DS is absolutely loving things thus far.

Asterisk · 25/01/2012 23:41

Pass the prozac! How utterly depressing that T is going to turn away at least half after interview. Is there enough time to send DS on a charm course?

kravings · 26/01/2012 00:07

mydaddy - your info is reassuaring, atleast we stand a better chance at W rather than T.anyone el

@all - anyone else coming for an interview at T - sat morning?

Ladymuck · 26/01/2012 07:58

Asterisk, no they don't turn away half - they have to over offer as many of the boys will have offers from at least 2 schools. There are lots of phone calls after the letters go out and as parental responses come back. It is also more common for awards to be negotiated at this stage too.

The challenge for the schools is to gauge their relative popularity. Hence Trinity had a problem 2 years ago when their acceptance rate jumped - they had to take on an extra class.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2012 08:20

Yes, as I said, DS1 is in that bulge year. I wonder if that's why they appear to have raised the bar on the entrance exam.
