Hi all
I am new to this. I am loving this site.
Has anyone's DS taken an 11+ exam at Whitgift or Trinity this year. We have taken both and have an interview at Whitgift.
Any tips for a first timer.

@kravings and all those waiting for the T phone call....good luck!!!! Grin I am unfortunately at work today and so am going to try not to stress until after lunch when I will be picking up the phone Angry. I just want to be able to tell my DS what is going on!!! Confused

To all those who have got their interview dates, best wishes Grin

keepingittogether · 20/01/2012 11:05

Interviews yesterday at W, our DS came out all relaxed smiling. The process for us was relaxed, I guess. It is all a blank though as I was too stressed, never really had a feel either way from the Dr, quite cold but polite and formal. Feel even worse now and more stressed :( !!!! DH was convinced it went well and feels confident, but he said that a couple of years ago before he was made redundant - head in the clouds!! I wish one of you had come with me for a reality check.

Blisstina · 20/01/2012 11:12

possibly my last posting on this thread. in the past 2 weeks I have flitted from biting my nails up to my elbows, to thinking "in the grand scheme of things, this is okay". we havent heard from W and assume that we wont at this late stage. I am now resigned to that, and so is my son as the other boys from his class have had their interviews and sports assessments.

i'm now looking to find out if anyone knows when the rejection letters are coming out. will need to have a chinese ready for my son and a bottle of fizz on hand for me......then we will cuddle on the sofa and eat chocolate.
x

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 11:40

@keeping it together...glad interview is done fingers now crossed for your DS Smile

@blisstina...I am in the same position with T, boring myself with my comments of no news yet!!! Sad. Have you considered ringing them to find out what is happening?? Confused which is exactly what I am going to do in the next hour!! Good luck to you DS wherever he goes. Wine x

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 11:55

I have finally got to the stage where I don't think my ds has got T Sad. I have just been told not to ring and if he is to be offered an interview I will receive a call by the end of today!!! Oh well he will be disappointed but I must just keep my fingers crossed for W Grin - his first choice if truth be told Wink

SoupDragon · 20/01/2012 12:10

Someone does have to be called for interview last, it's true. That really isn't any comfort at all if you are still hanging on though :(

kravings · 20/01/2012 12:28

@blisstina - can I join you for the chinese food and Brew, you have no nails, I have no hair Grin!

@frankies - I just CALLED T - they said that today is the day when all final calls are being made, so if we don't hear from them then we wait for rejection letters to come soon...aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh.

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 12:43

Ditto kravings on all accounts x

Blisstina · 20/01/2012 14:12

@ frankies69, called them and they wouldn't give anything away, said interview letters still going out this week...hello it's friday!!!! ( clearly didn't say that :-) hope you get a call from T, so difficult playing the waiting game.
@kravings lol - least you will save on the hairdresser bills. chinese at mine it is then.........

stressederica · 20/01/2012 14:34

Hello everyone, I can't believe it's been a year since we went through this whole nightmare! Reading your comments just brings it all back (in a bad way!) I just wanted to wish everyone waiting for offers the best of luck and courage. I know exactly what you're all going through!
DS did the 10+ last year and is now happily skipping along to W every morning (He is up at 6 and dressed by 7 ready for another day, which is nothing short of a miracle!) He is having a great time and I also have to keep reminding him that it is not a holiday camp! Smile
The waiting is atrocious but take heart and it will all be over before you know it. My DS's birthday is on 12 February and the offers came out on the 11th last year. Was absolutely dreading the day! By the time the letters came through the postbox, I was hyperventilating! My hands were shaking so much I could not even open the envelopes. Read the first line of both letters and collapsed! I didn't even realise that DS had got very generous scholarships from T and W until my much calmer DH(who thought it best to stay home that day in case I have a heart attack!) pointed it out to me. To those with DSs at state primary school, my DS was too and he did very well in the exams. We had a tutor for 6 months just because the state primaries do not cater for those taking 11+ and other entrance exams. They don't cover everything, especially not in year 4 and 5.
Once again, good luck to everyone! Smile
Soup dragon: Just saw that you had a DD. I do too and although she's only 4 and a half and has just started primary school, I want to start looking into secondary schools but not sure what's on offer in the area. There does not seem to be as many options for girls. Any idea what you're doing for your DD yet?

SoupDragon · 20/01/2012 16:03

No idea what to do with DD. There are the neighbouring grammar schools of course but I guess the options are Old Palace (not heard great things), Croydon High (know nothing) and Royal Russell (heard mixed things). I'm not worrying about it because so much can change over the next few years and DD may turn out to be not very bright

SoupDragon · 20/01/2012 16:05

And, I'm told, if you've phoned T to ask you may well speak to people who have no idea whether your son will be offered an interview. Honestly, they don't know and even if they did, they can't tell you because you could be anyone.

pooziepuzzle · 20/01/2012 16:22

@blisstina- I too have come to the conclusion that my DS will not be invited in as sports tests done all this week. However, I too phoned and was told they are holding a day back at the end of next week for sports assessments and letters still going out. I am trying to forget about it and except it is a "no" so anything else will be a surprise. I was also told that they finish interviews on the 30th Jan so no news by then will be obvious! Also told rejection letters come out the same time as the others, a bit harsh I thought to keep people waiting.

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 16:23

Hi all again,
I have just got in from work and found the letter saying my DS hasn't made it to T Shock I must say now that I know I am actually relieved! Blush I know his first choice is W and if he had got an interview at T I don't think he would have performed as well as he could Blush!!
I am now waiting for the letters on 17th feb but am feeling ok about that because we had a good interview and came out feeling confident. Grin
I am going to be watching all your posts closely and wish all your DS's the best in their future and hope they all get the schools they want!!
And Thanks to all those who have given me encouragement and support Wine x

kravings · 20/01/2012 16:41

@frankies - :( I am very sorry hear that...in my case, no letter, no phone call. I guess the dreaded 'r' letter might be dropped on my doostep tomorrow. Just interrogated my DS as to how he did his exam papers, he seemed to be v confident Hmm!

@stressederica - I agree, primary schools do not cater at all for 11+ prep. I did most of it myself (I teach in Uni) and then just to brush him up we had a tutor for last 6 months.

havinganightmare · 20/01/2012 16:54

Thank you got heads up swstressed - sadly only saw once he had left!!! He just phoned in great spirits as had a fab day but that obviously doesn't mean much as a any day of sport for ds is fab!! "Cricket was tennis balls only" was the only moan! Has bounced in the door just now and wants to go out to play football....! Let the waiting commence......

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 16:55

@kravings I must say I am now not Sad I am in actual fact happy that the decision is taken away from us Grin. He has done his absolute best and got the interview at the school he LOVES!!!!!! Grin I am sorry however that you haven't heard and that it seems that it is not good for you Sad.

kravings · 20/01/2012 17:01

SoupDragon · 20/01/2012 17:01

SoupDragon · 20/01/2012 17:01

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 17:02

havinganightmare · 20/01/2012 17:10

So sorry Frankie. Everything crossed for W for your ds. And everyone else too!!

frankies69 · 20/01/2012 17:33

Thank you so much Thanks. Keeping everything crossed for all the DS's Wine

Marbleslonggone · 20/01/2012 18:10

@SWStressed thank you so much for the info which helped set him up this morning in terms of what to expect. V tired DS tonight. He enjoyed it I think but some really strong players there not sure my DS that level - county/academy standard boys not just all rounders like mine. Think he was overwhelmed and felt out of his league. Roll on feb 17th - I think! Now it's time for Wine!!!

SWStressed · 20/01/2012 18:28

Marbleslonggone, exactly how I feel but do think it can't hurt for their name to have been in the frame for the application generally. Now going to stop thinking about it all!
