Can we discuss re-marking of GCSEs - ie appeals? Yes/no/don't bother? Any experience of success?

At ds' school a number of good, top set students got A for English Language GCSE when they were expecting A - one of them even wants to be a journalist! I know it seems a bit much to faff about an A rather than an A, but we are wondering whether to ask the school to send off some of the papers for re-marking.

Or whether students can or should do it individually?

I know there are a few exam markers on here - any advice please?

2B1Gmum, Congratulations to your son on his 4 A*!

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, but thought you might like to hear that our school has said that exam boards do not remark English LITERATURE A grade papers, as the difference between A and A* in Eng Lit is "natural flair" and not factual. So go and tell him that he has "natural flair" for English literature at least!

obymicky, I'm not ignoring your post-I don't know how to see papers as a private candidate, but hopefully a teacher may come along and answer your question. Has your friend asked at wherever it was that she sat the papers?

Daughter 1 mark of an A 239/300, she needed 240/300 had it remarked, heard today they have made an error and she has got an A. I ,think if pupils are this close you have very little to lose in having it remarked

Just an update here from me as OP - ds had his Eng Lang remarked and - hooray!!! - got his A star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, they only had to remark one of his papers - they added on 3 marks, and that took him to an A star.

Very, very well worth doing in our case - ds was cockahoop. Thank you so much to all you lovely people who offered help and support. Could not have done it without you. Smile
