Can we discuss re-marking of GCSEs - ie appeals? Yes/no/don't bother? Any experience of success?

At ds' school a number of good, top set students got A for English Language GCSE when they were expecting A - one of them even wants to be a journalist! I know it seems a bit much to faff about an A rather than an A, but we are wondering whether to ask the school to send off some of the papers for re-marking.

Or whether students can or should do it individually?

I know there are a few exam markers on here - any advice please?

I still got the grades for my course at weston college

CHIPPER172 · 27/08/2010 11:23

Mr Baldwin (headteacher of my school) said any exam board errors will mean pupils being ?upgraded? rather than any lowering of grades.

Although re-marks are unsuccessful in the majority of cases, it can be successful in quite a significant minority of cases so on one hand, if you don't try, it definitely won't be re-marked. If the mark is onl a few marks over a grade boundary, beware in case they take marks off.

Hi,
Is there any one who can help. My friends daughter appeared for Science GCSE exam ie Biology, Chemistry and Physics with OCR and for each of them she got D and the daughter insists that she did very well in those exams. Can we retrieve those papers so that we can see them?. Any idea how to proceed to retrieve the papers. She did the exams as private candidate.

my son missed A in English Lang by 4 marks out of 300, school advice seemed against appealing even though he got A in English Lit and the teacher was really keen for him to study to A Level (he isn't). He was a bit upset because his very academic school made a point of congratulating those with 5 A* and more - which he missed by those 4 points. I am really unsure how much universities refer to GSCEs - particularly if all above C and top grades are in subjects studied to A level - will find out in next year or two
