Scottish Elections who do you think will take the majority of Seats?

Fundays12 · 12/04/2026 11:15

As a Scot I genuinely have no idea who to vote for.

I dont trust the SNP and find John Swinney completely incompetent. I wouldnt trust him to run my household budget let alone the countries so he is out for me. I cant stand labour, the tories well are not my cup of tea, lib dems and green would never get my vote.

However i dont seem to be alone in having no idea who to vote for which leaves me wondering who will take the majority of seats across Scotland. What do others think will happen?

No, Labour, LibDem and Tories have let the electorate down by not providing what many think is a decent alternative.

Don't blame the electorate who have a crap choice to make right now because everyone's pretty dismal.

But the snp lot have had nearly 20yrs to improve the lives of Scotlands people and they have failed us, terribly.
No longer can they say a big bad Tory did it and ran away

RhannionKPSS · 08/05/2026 18:42

I’m disgusted by all the fools who voted for the SNP & Greens , you have enabled them to continue to ruin our country.

Some accountability would be nice!

I won’t hold my breath

Moaning about "accountability" on the day of a parliamentary election 😂

Any point in the last 19 years would have done. - didn't have to be today.

The good thing is how the unionist vote has held up

Hopefully will put an end to more referendum chat

So it's up to other parties to make themselves attractive to voters.

They're obviously doing an equally dismal job if they can't attract people towards them.

Not really - it's more that the indy voters (roughly 45-7%) vote SNP, and the unionist vote is split between the other parties that want to remain in the UK. Things haven't really shifted on that front.

A few shockers today.

The bad -

Lorna Slater?! Go home, Edinburgh Central, you're drunk.

Kate 'abolish all prisons' Neven in on list.

Mad Maggie Chapman in on list.

Emma Roddick. For fucks sake.

Alex Cole Hamilton. The sleekit, shiny faced twat.

The good -

Kaukab 'decapitate terfs' Stewart out (thank god!)

Carol Mochan and Claire Baker in on list.

Angus Robertson and his hilarious unseating.

Lorna Slater - got to be a sick joke but Edinburgh Central should be renamed Student Central.
Kate Neven - over 10,000 votes. I’m ashamed to be from here.

Agree.

The results are what I expected, but still maddening.

The green and reform vote are both bonkers.

More of SNP is beyond depressing, but totally expected. They're hopeless but because of the guaranteed baseline vote from indy supporters, there is absolutely no end in sight.

They'll get in bed with the greens again and spend all their efforts in pushing another referendum. While the country keeps going from bad to worse.

Nowhere near as stupid as complaining about a lack of accountability... in the middle of an election results day.

Namingbaba · 08/05/2026 20:58

It is hard to get through to voters but I was a bit disappointed that some parties didn’t try much. The leaflet I got through from the tories was basically just pushing them as a unionist party and didn’t really push any other policies. It’s frustrating we can’t get passed this. Also they had Ruth Davidson front and centre and bigger in the photos than the current leader. Doesn’t show much confidence.

I'll continue to vote SNP until Scotland is an independent nation. I don't necessarily agree with them on everything, but independence is the key issue for me so I will continue to vote for the party who has the best chance of delivering it.

The other issues that would sway my vote are health and education and none of the others were saying anything on those that would be enough to change my vote. They are not promising anything radically different.

You can say SNP and greens have ruined the country but personally, things are better for me and my family under SNP.

Which is why one of the other parties would likely do better if they stepped away from this argument because it's not helping them. Accept members can be pro or anti independence and say there's more important things. I think a good chunk of people would vote for them because so many people on both sides are tired of this question's dominance.

My household got spammed by the SNP with general leaflets and a letter each. Reform sent us a letter each and a couple of leaflets, Labour sent one leaflet which didn't give me any info about the candidate and nothing from the other parties.

Things are far worse for me and my family under the SNP. Violence in schools is the biggest issue I have. My kids are so anxious about going each day. The death of our local high street is a depressing aspect too. We’re a wealthy area but business rates mean that many retail outlets just give up. Then there’s the vey high taxes and very high benefits, both of which disincentivise working, and the looming £5bn black hole.

Helpmaboa · 08/05/2026 21:37

It would be so lovely to be able to vote in actual issues instead of the constant focus on independence

How can you say an issue to sway your vote is education when the SNP have created the joke that is today's Scottish education system?

As someone who is both a parent, and works in education, I'm actually embarrassed at the shambles the SNP have made of our schools.

The education system is dumbed down rubbish, standards are falling and support for additional needs is shocking.

As I said, the other parties weren't offering anything radically different 🤷‍♀️ I can't see how it would be any different. I have children in primary and secondary. In what way is it a joke? Violence in schools hasn't been an issue for us. Eldest on track for all As and a free university tuition - which I benefited from too.

Partner has long term health conditions so there's free prescriptions and ADP. No complaints about his treatment and access to specialists.

The free bus pass and primary school meals is a huge saving. Tax wise ever so slightly better off, but the above savings far outweigh that. Everyone's circumstances different, but I can't see how I'd be better off by voting for anyone else right now -

Helpmaboa · 08/05/2026 21:59

All parties should step away from this issue - but of course, the SNP remains absolutely focused on it. JS was very clear about that in the lead up to the election. This means that the indu supporters continue to vote for him while he dangles that carrot and the other parties who are opposed to it continue to be so.

I would love the SNP to say 'if we win, our focus will be improving the NHS (or education or employment opportunities)' but nope - back to independence they go, while standards on those key areas continue to fall.
