What is wrong with football 'fans'?

Invading the pitch after yesterday's game? First full allocations away fans in ages and that's how they behave? What is wrong with these people? Fans of both sides involved.
I just don't understand them.

One of my work colleagues is a Celtic ultra/ member of the Green Brigade/ football hooligan. He'll come into work today all full of himself and we'll all have to listen. I saw him on the tv footage with his hood up, all threatening looking.
He's usually a fairly normal, respectable type but when there's a football match, especially an Old Firm game, it's like a total personality transplant.

They're an absolute disgrace to football and to Scotland. I wonder if the police will ask for names of anyone on the pitch. I honestly might give them his name.

Rant over. Sorry. I just hate this behaviour around football so much.

It was Celtic fans’ fault. If they hadn’t invaded the pitch, Rangers fans wouldn’t have retaliated.

Right. See though, fans up and down the country celebrate by going on the pitch. The only team that “retaliates” to a normal celebration is Rangers. And coming prepared with ski masks etc is kind of a clue they were always out for a fight.

(I’m not a Celtic fan btw (OTIG!), but I am a Glaswegian who goes to games every week)

Ack, to be honest, if it were the other way around the UBs would have probably done the same in Celtic Park and I’m saying that as a Rangers fan. Maybe best option really is just no away allocation, unfortunately.

No one should be on the pitch.

The “ultras” on both sides have been vandalising various structures in and around the city with their team colours and flags of choice and putting stickers everywhere. I have no time for idiots like that or for football or religion and I’m tired of so much in Glasgow having to revolve around the two teams.

But vandalism and graffiti happens all over. Why is everything automatically worse when associated with football? It’s illegal to spray paint a building. Why is it more illegal when it’s red/white/blue or green/white/gold?

And just to pick up on another point - when did it become illegal to swagger with your hood up ‘looking threatening’? If your colleague has done something illegal, by all means report it to the police, but being a bit of a fanny at a football match is not illegal. There are laws in place to combat anti-social behaviour - assault, drunk and disorderly, breach of the peace, etc. None
of these things (should) become extra criminal when committed by someone wearing a football shirt.

Yes, I’ll be avoiding town with my kids when there’s a Derby match on. Neither will I be going anywhere near town on Trnsmt weekend, or during marching season.
