What is wrong with football 'fans'?

Invading the pitch after yesterday's game? First full allocations away fans in ages and that's how they behave? What is wrong with these people? Fans of both sides involved.
I just don't understand them.

One of my work colleagues is a Celtic ultra/ member of the Green Brigade/ football hooligan. He'll come into work today all full of himself and we'll all have to listen. I saw him on the tv footage with his hood up, all threatening looking.
He's usually a fairly normal, respectable type but when there's a football match, especially an Old Firm game, it's like a total personality transplant.

They're an absolute disgrace to football and to Scotland. I wonder if the police will ask for names of anyone on the pitch. I honestly might give them his name.

Rant over. Sorry. I just hate this behaviour around football so much.

What football fans don't understand is sane people don't care 'who started it' - you all sound about 5. The behaviour is unacceptable and blaming the the other sides fans further illustrates the lack of accountability on both sides for the thuggery constantly associated with our 'national game'.

This 100%! No one makes you fight back. You’re grown adults not two year olds.

Interesting observations but not quite accurate. Just for clarification: Celtic fans were kettled before the game as they were trying to gain access to the ground. Rangers fans jumped the barriers when their team scored but goal was disallowed for handball. Celtic fans did similar when they won on penalties. It was clear on television that most Celtic fans were getting selfies with players when fans from the Rangers end came running down the pitch, most with blue balaclavas and knocking over anyone who got in their way. Some then assaulted a member of the Celtic backroom team. Video evidence exists. Live on TV we saw the attempts by those with balaclavas try to attack those in the Broomlawn end including the launching of flares into the crowd.
Hardly innocent behaviour.
Something that has received very little coverage is the attack on a Celtic fan who was beaten unconscious as he tried to get to his supporters bus, legitimately parked on Helen St. While lying unconscious on the ground he was repeatedly kicked in the head by Rangers fans. Only rapid intervention from others saved his life. He has regained consciousness and is in hospital.

BTW one of the main leaders of the union bears (those with the balaclavas) has been Ross McGill. He has an interesting criminal history involving gangland wars, drugs etc. All documented.

So it began with Celtic fans entering the pitch. Is this allowed? I think not. Each equally guilty. These people are all scum.

I was disgusted to hear about the supporter being attacked by a group and being kicked repeatedly in the head. Also about the steward being punched to the ground, and chairs being thrown at people in a pub. There’s always been hooliganism associated with football - I witnessed an attack with chains in Edinburgh before a match as a student 30 years ago - but enough is enough.

Hibs had a violent firm in the 80s/90s
They used a petrol bomb 80s on Princess st against Aberdeen soccer casuals.

That's your response to the violence described on the post you quoted??

Says it all.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/03/2026 22:48

As a middle aged female football fan I’d like to point out that all of the violent thugs at the old firm match yesterday, of both sides, have one thing in common. A penis. This is a man problem.

My colleague has been arrested. Apparently he threw a bottle at police. He didn't even have his face covered so he was easily recognised. Stupid fucker.

Good, what a twat.

If someone I worked with came in mouthing off about being involved with something so stupid I’d tell them how pathetic they were, I can’t comprehend why grown men need to fight over football it’s ridiculous.

Religious hatred,drunkenness and coke
What could possibly go wrong.
Not Scotlands shame
A West coast problem and has been for decades

Not necessarily. I have seen photos and videos from Dunfermline v Aberdeen at the weekend. Not necessarily on the pitch but after the game. It’s really disgusting. Especially when you see how lovely it is to go to Murrayfield for the rugby.

Telling anyone they “sound about 5” is hardly a mature way to conduct yourself.

My post was blaming both fans for poor, but also different, behaviour.

What does it say? Says that both teams fans think the rules are beneath them. Equally pathetic.

Honestly, the whole sport can just get in the sea.

They were Hibs casuals chasing down and attacking Rangers fans.

Celtic Rangers is also the fracture line a la Republicanism & Loyalism. The issues are much deeper & older.

I heard a comment that if it weren't for Northern Irish fans coming over, neither team would be financially viable.

Also, anyone remember the IndyRef riots in Glasgow that night? Looked like 70s Belfast. Predominantly Ulster Banners & Rangers emblems.

Not excusing it.

GeorgeSmiley1969 · 14/03/2026 18:28

This problem is predominantly related to 2 clubs who are a disgrace to Scotland as they thrive on bigotry and sectarianism.

celticnations · 22/03/2026 23:17

The hatred is real and intense and linked to historical Anglo-Irish history - poltical & religious.

It's also linked to poor education and tribe mentality.

celticnations · 23/03/2026 00:08

I'm not sure that it can be "addressed".

Oh so that’s ok then?

Of what relevant is Anglo-Irish history to Scottish football? It’s like saying Indian-Pakistani history is relevant to English cricket. Scottish football needs to boot out any trace of sectarianism and keep going until it is totally eradicated from the sport. These childish idiots need to learn. Anything less and Scottish football is condoning it.

To ask me that, you have no idea.

celticnations · 26/03/2026 12:45

@Firtreefiona

Eg. Celtic fans singing Grace, or My Sam Browne Belt, or Go on Home you British Soldiers.

Celtic fans flying banners like "They Hung out the Flag of War" or "Irish Republic".

Rangers fans singing The Sash or No Pope of Rome.

Rangers fans flying UVF/UDA colours.

celticnations · 26/03/2026 13:10

@Firtreefiona Many Linfield fans travel to Ibrox. Google them.

Rangers fans run an annual "Sash Bash" to NI for the 12th.

Celtic fans travel to NI for St Patrick's & The Rising marches.

Religion & Irish history & identity politics is rife; engrained & endemic.

Any Glasgow folk here?

ladyamy · 26/03/2026 13:23

It was Celtic fans’ fault. If they hadn’t invaded the pitch, Rangers fans wouldn’t have retaliated.

So they weren't mature enough to simply ignore the pitch invasion? Why did some Rangers fans come equipped with blue ski masks? They were united in their mutual bigoted hatred of each other. They're a national embarrassment.

celticnations · 07/04/2026 21:02

I suspect all quietly arranged beforehand.

Ultras.

I know that but this is Scottish football. If it’s so steeped in vile divisive nonsense derived from a different country, let’s just bin the entire sport. It’s so disgusting and childish - on both sides.

celticnations · 08/04/2026 02:34

@Firtreefiona Ken the anger. Absolutely.

The term "Ulster Scots" & "Hands Across The Water" entwines both NI & Scottish loyalism. Rangers/Linfield are the outlet for some in both countries.

thinktoomuchtoooften · 08/04/2026 11:00

It’s a game played by over paid cheats watched by some of the worst of humanity. I’d happily see clubs banned and fans jailed.
