Suggestions for 4 nights in Scotland

Looking for suggestions for a few days away. Ideally no more than around 3 hours drive from Glasgow area. With things suitable for 11-15 year olds (and parents) probably try to do AirBnB to keep costs down. Need some things to keep everyone entertained in all weathers. The brief is a bit vague, but open to suggestion. Have done Fort William, Arran, Crieff, Fife.

Aviemore? Lots to do there.

Pitlochry

Invisimamma · 16/06/2024 15:00

Aviemore.

Cairngorms, although if you're looking for this summer you might struggle to find accommodation.

Does it need to still be in Scotland? How about Newcastle? Would fit your brief (other than being in England 😂)

maw1681 · 16/06/2024 15:44

Stirling is lovely, lots to do

JosieB68 · 16/06/2024 15:54

St Andrews?
Lovely beaches or craigtoun park if the weather is nice. Aquarium, indoor golf, secret bunker and swimming if weather not so great and only an hour and a half drive from Glasgow.

edinburgh

JosieB68 · 16/06/2024 15:55

Sorry missed you said you’d done Fife before.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 16/06/2024 16:00

There are many places in Fife! Kings barn, Elie, Lower largo, Anstruther as well as St Andrews. Dundee has a lot going on. Pitlochry is lovely with a smashing wee theatre.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 16/06/2024 16:08

Loch Lomond or Arran

Lots to do that will suit 15 and 11 yr olds eg kayaking, cycling etc.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 16/06/2024 16:09

Also second the Dundee recommendation

Great suggestion but we've been there.

We've done all these over the years I'm afraid.

Pitlochry

Was there many years ago but might be worth a revisit. Thank you

Went there on way back from Fort William and I suspect as you say might be tricky to get accommodation

I did wonder if Newcastle, Manchester or Liverpool might be worth a shot. Will check them out

What about somewhere in Argyll? E.g. Oban/Rothesay/Dunoon/Helensburgh. Oban is right at the edge of your limit (probably 3 hours drive/train from Glasgow) but the others are accessible in under 3 hours. All quite outdoorsy fun rather than great indoor activities but if you like walking, scenery, mountain biking etc then it might be worthwhile. Oban has access to lots of the islands too which would be really different to everything you've mentioned visiting before.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 16/06/2024 18:22

The Border country? I'm not sure how much would suit teenagers though. Kelso is a pretty little town.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/06/2024 18:33

What about north east England? I am thinking Bamburgh/seahouses.

ssd · 16/06/2024 19:11

Oban, ferry to Mull and Iona

Gorgonemilezola · 16/06/2024 19:13

Borders - lots of castles, mountain biking stuff, easy reach of Lindisfarne.
Or Dumfries and Galloway.

soupmaker · 16/06/2024 19:20

Oban is 2 and half hours from Glasgow. And a brilliant base for a couple of days island hopping. Lots of great outdoors activities. If the weather is awful there's not so much to do though.

We adore Northumberland and Newcastle and it's a great shout from Glasgow.

North Berwick
