I love a spa break and husband wants to pay for a weekend away somewhere for my birthday. Where have you had the best spa stays in Scotland?

No budget, just interested in people's experiences of spas, quality of hotel, treatments, food, surrounding area e.g. what else is there to do in the area etc.

Why? I'm sorry to be blunt as I was just looking to chat to people about spa breaks they've been on and enjoyed, but we have a lot of money.

It doesn't matter to me if it's the most expensive spa in Scotland, or something more in the middle. The price tag isn't everything. Just looking to go away for a weekend and have one or two treatments.

@chillisalt I'm not sure what your problem is. You've asked what the budget is and I've told you there is no budget.

Hopefully I can get some more pleasant and helpful responses if you're quite finished now.

Gleneagles is my favourite. The treatments, the pool/spa area, staff are all amazing.

Belindabelle · 23/05/2024 16:54

Friends rate Stobo but I have never been so can’t comment.

I recently had a two night stay at one of the lodges at Bowfield.
The lodges were lovely, with a private hot tub.

The facilities at Bowfield were great in terms of spa packages available/ changing rooms/ treatment rooms/ sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool etc

Food was delicious every time (we had breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 days) and a great cocktail menu.

Service in the bar/restaurant was slower than I'd have liked but it was young staff so I gave it leeway.

My favourite is definitely Gleneagles, the detox and hydrate massage was lovely as was the glow facial. Beautiful surroundings, great food and the bonus of an adults only pool area.

Loch Fyne spa itself is lovely, although the hotel a little dated. I thoroughly enjoyed the more traditional feel and have returned on several occasions.

Both Fairmont and Turnberry have beautiful rooms, impeccable service, lovely spa facilities (seaweed wrap at Turnberry is particularly great), however the pools were both very busy with members and I’m still slightly traumatised from witnessing the aqua aerobics!

I agree about Loch Fyne. Adults only pool would be ideal.

A few of my friends got to Stobo every year and love it, I've not been so can't personally recommend it, but think it would would be a nice treat..

It really depends what you're looking for and how far you want to travel - I've been to all of these;

  • Mar Hall
  • The Lochside
  • Inchyra
  • One Spa at the Sheraton in Edinburgh was amazing - I would recommend that due to the choice of facilities and treatments

The Gleddoch is also supposed to be good.

A few have suggested The Loch Fyne - it is in a beautiful location but I wouldn't really consider it to be a spa hotel and the only hot tub is small and outside.

I used to live near the Isle of Eriska - beautiful and very exclusive.

@chillisalt

It's clearly boggling your mind that there is no upper limit to the budget. There wouldn't be for me gifting him a similar birthday present either. The mere thought of this seems to be really tickling you for some reason.

We have plenty of money and I'm hardly flying to Dubai for a massage. Just looking for a weekend away at a spa and looking for recommendations. You've yet to give any.

Thanks to all the other posters for your recommendations. I'll look into them.

I’m mystified at the deleted posts here. Hardly a controversial subject!

for my tuppence worth the onespa at the Sheraton was a real treat and I also loved Portavadie. It had a lovely vibe to it and beautiful walks/good village pubs

Thanks I'll look those up.

I didn't report that poster, but someone obviously has. I'm not sure what guidelines they've broken but they were just being bizarrely rude and repetitive that they didn't believe me about having no upper limit to my budget.

Mumsnet is a strange place. I like visiting spas and it's something I've only done a handful of times over the years. Excited about the thought of an upcoming trip away (my first ever away from my toddler), I posted looking for recommendations but someone has to be weirdly bitter about that and laugh at the suggestion that my husband is happy to treat me at any price.
