I love a spa break and husband wants to pay for a weekend away somewhere for my birthday. Where have you had the best spa stays in Scotland?

I’m sorry you’re having a hard time from this particular poster OP.

I thought Madonna and Guy Ritchie got married at Stobo Castle but it was actually Skibo Castle (after a quick google!)

I haven’t been to any of these places it I’m sure Gleneagles would be wonderful. It’s been on my bucket list for years.

Sometimes it feels like you can't post anything on Mumsnet without this sort of nonsense. Even the most mundane topics have someone sneering.

I appreciate the recommendations from other posters 😊

I’m lucky enough to have been to a fair few but Gleneagles wins hands down for overall package, amazing doa, the best massage I’ve ever had, great food, beautiful surroundings and lots to do when not in spa

I’m mystified at the deleted posts here. Hardly a controversial subject!

for my tuppence worth the onespa at the Sheraton was a real treat and I also loved Portavadie. It had a lovely vibe to it and beautiful walks/good village pubs

Oh, forgot that I've been to Portavadie too - a bit off the beaten track, but a stunning location - loved the outdoor pools!

Gleneagles was a lovely treat from a friend during a hard time in my life. I had booked for the Roxburgh in Kelso but with a chronic health condition they wanted dr's letter etc but felt they probably wouldn't allow me to have any treatments. However they did give me a full refund so I'd recommend them for that.

Norton House Hotel is lovely. I usually go midweek there. So not sure how it is at weekends.

For those recommending Gleneagles, is this in Perthshire as I see there is one in Edinburgh also called Gleneagles

Perthshire, the Edinburgh one is more a members club I think.

Thanks, this tops the list I think. Perthshire is lovely ☺️

Perthshire. The townhouse in Edinburgh is nice for food etc but a members club for spa facilities.

Sahara123 · 24/05/2024 19:38

I watched a programme about The Balmoral in Edinburgh the other day , I’d love a spa there but it’s so expensive! Has anyone been ? I’ve been to the hotel for tea and shortbread, the staff treated us like royalty . I’d love to go back !

ToffeeSheep · 24/05/2024 20:32

Stobo is fabulous and the Cashmere Suite there would be my choice if money was no object! Gleneagles, Turnberry, Fairmont etc all lovely but Stobo is the only one that is purely a spa, if that is what you are looking for. All the others are luxury hotels with fantastic spa/pool/treatments. Enjoy!

ssd · 24/05/2024 20:49

Unfortunately i have zero experience of this spa, and all the rest mentioned here, I'm more likely to be found at my local baths, but i would recommend you look at The Fife Arms spa op. 5 star hotel. Near Balmoral Castle. Highly recommended. In my dreams🤞

DonnasShrugaleros · 28/05/2024 15:33

The One Spa in the Sheraton in Edinburgh is starting to look really shabby, it needs a major overhaul. The treatments are fine but the changing rooms, steam room, saunas etc are tired and the bathrooms have tiles missing, peeling paint etc.

Not been to Gleneagles or Stobo (or the other recommendations) but imagine they're miles ahead and I wouldn't want you to have a disappointing time.

Also baffled by all the deleted posts from someone likely with a chip on their knotted shoulder...maybe they need a spa day too.

INeedAPensieve · 31/05/2024 20:01

Stobo is definitely lovely and it is a proper spa only hotel so feels very exclusive. It isn't cheap though, but worth it.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 31/05/2024 20:27

I liked One Spa in Edinburgh but agree with pp that there are likely nicer places if you have no limit.

LeilaLettuce · 31/05/2024 20:32

My son went to One Spa pre Covid and raved about it. Unfortunately they limit the time you can be there to one and a half hours I think and treatments are extra. The communications I have had with them have been terrible so I think it’s gone downhill.

I have only heard good things about Stobo.
