Anyone else getting the feeling that some people will treat the new hate crime legislation as a way to express their own hatred?

Anyone willing to take bets on how many times a day Tory MSPs get reported? Or how frequently Humza is reported?

Or how quickly the online reporting crashes due to volume?

It's going to be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Wings has a source within the police that says that Humza's "white" speech has been reported many times already. Oh dear, what a shame.

Here's a completely unrelated link:

Roddy Dunlop is great on Twitter/X, he is not afraid of anyone. He's a very clever man.

This is a good article from the BBC. Siobhan Brown comes across as utterly clueless.

I'll be interested to see how long this ridiculous legislation continues. Police Scotland (with their whole two hours online training) are going to be inundated with vexatious and malicious reporting by TRA's.

Oh yes, the same numpty woman who covered herself in glory over the dangerous dogs fiasco.

If anyone is on Twitter I suggest checking out the "shauny boy" account, he makes wee videos and is very funny.

I have family up there - my sister is well known for opening mouth then thinking. Her best pal is very outspoken on women’s rights and sex nonsense.

i am taking bets on who gets her collar felt first.

JK Rowling is fierce. She is clever, and smart, and rich enough not to have to worry about the fallout of losing your job over stating biological facts. I am very glad we have her.

Our politicians have been so weak over this legislation.

mibbelucieachwell · 02/04/2024 13:48

Yes. And so has the media. The bbc Scottish news today is reporting that " one day in, the bill is already the focus of intense controversy largely because of those comments made on social media by the author JK Rowling. She described several transgender women as men ." ....... " And invited" the police "to arrest her" if she's in breach of the law.

JK Rowling is far from the only critic of this law. Hmm

Seems that misgendering is not criminal. Wonder if hate crime incident recorded though? Maybe we'll see JKR and Murdo Fraser in court together challenging this too.

JK Rowling

JK Rowling hate law posts not criminal, police say

Social media comments by JK Rowling challenging Scotland's new hate crime law are not being treated as criminal.

Poor TRAs are having a tantrum that Police Scotland won't arrest people for migendering them. Oh dear what a shame. 🤭

3000 hate crimes recorded since Monday.
Meanwhile in the real world.
Creepy guy followed a woman through Aberdeen, grabbing at her , still followed her even though her bf turned up halfway because of the situation.
Because of short sentences guidelines the sheriff could only impose community order as the maximum on a rapist in the making.

Misthios · 03/04/2024 18:53

Similar story round here - although the police have arrested someone for this one.

Up to 6000 complaints now and staff are being diverted off other jobs or being paid overtime to deal with the deluge.

They were warned...

I mean how dim are they?

I was listening to a radio programme about disasterous decisions (the radion girls, Pepsi promo that ended up with thousands of people thinking they’d won $$$$$$$, hoover free flights promo…). I think I’ve found the next episode…

to paraphrase Frazier ‘well that’s one on me… or rather Roz whose ancestors were once heard saying ‘oh what a nice wooden horse, of course I’ll sign for that’

How many of those are from India Willoughby?

What a waste of police time. All the neds, drug dealers and burglars have carte blanche to do what they like this weekend, while police scotland investigates the hurt feelings of people who don't live in scotland and have never been to Scotland.

Scottish government ‘surprised’ at the opprobrium the gate act has never met with. Like they were surprised that their inaction over dangerous dogs meant they were shipped to Scotland. Like they were surprised a rent freeze resulted in the highest rental inflation in Europe. Like they were surprised that violence in Scottish schools is soaring after they ban permanent exclusion. Like they are surprised the gender recognition act was stopped by the Supreme Court.

i really wish these SNP politicians would engage their single collective braincell just occasionally. Nobody else is surprised at all.

Ministers 'caught by surprise' over hate crime row - Freeman

Former health secretary Jeane Freeman also believes misogyny should have been included in the new law.

Rainbowshit · 08/04/2024 16:22

None of that was remotely surprising to those of us who pay attention to what's happening in Scotland. Wonder why the SNP were surprised? Could it be that they block everyone that doesn't agree with them perhaps? 🤔
