Footwear and weather in Scotland?

Daft question but… what are you currently wearing on your feet in Scotland? We are coming ‘home’ next week and it’s been so hot where I live that I’ve lost touch with the reality of Scottish summer ☔️

I will need waterproof trainers right? Rather than airy summer ones? And is there any point in bringing sandals?

I'm just wearing my trainers weather's been up and down and if I'm out in the rain I've got walking trainers that I wear.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2023 12:35

Ordinary trainers*

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2023 12:36

It's been sandal weather too.

FionnulaTheCooler · 13/07/2023 12:38

Waterproof trainers would be your best bet. The weather for the past few days has been sunny spells with sudden torrential downpours in between, sandals might not be the best.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2023 12:43

Its scottish summer you need everything just for a day 😄 it's really clammy so I've been wear a jacket and t shirts.

TabbyM · 13/07/2023 12:45

Sandals last weekend but trainers today - bring both!

No trainers are are 100% waterproof IME if you are walking in paths through long grass etc and even walking boots eventually get soggy so depends if you are sticking to town / well used paths or going a bit further afield.

nasanas · 13/07/2023 12:49

I wear Birkenstock 99% of the year so probably not the best person to ask, but I would imagine sandals are common at this time of year. Nobody needs to kit up with waterproof trainers; sure we have had some rain but that's normal for most of the UK

BigBoysDontCry · 13/07/2023 13:04

Depends what you are planning on doing? For for general ambling about, shopping etc then normal trainers or walking shoes will be fine. Anything more than normal countryside paths you might want something more sturdy.

Sandals in the rain wouldn't be the worst option tbh.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/07/2023 13:22

I don't wear waterproof trainers for day to day urban life - I'd only wear them in I was going out proper walking somewhere in country/hills/forestry.

I wear loafers or smart sandals for work, trainers (mix of casual and smarter ones depending on outfit), sandals (weather dependent).

Always have a small brolly in my bag, alongside my sunglasses though!

Watchagotch72 · 13/07/2023 13:24

Cheers all.

We’re in France where it was 38 degrees a couple of days ago 🥵haven’t worn anything but flip flops for a couple of months now . That thought of putting shoes on makes me go 😱

I’m wearing my sandals too.

audweb · 13/07/2023 14:03

Sandals, and have been since May, and will be till sep. currently in flip flops. Might put on walking sandals for longer wanders but day to day sandals. Most people I know wear sandals or trainers daily. It’s still warm, here not 38 but a good 17 degrees and sunny today.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 13/07/2023 14:05

If you're going out and about waterproof trainers, I'm just wearing ordinary trainers but weather v changeable so stick flip flops in bag too.

Mycoldcolddietcoke · 13/07/2023 16:56

Glasgow here and I’ve not had sandals on since early June- weather has been truly crap. Odd spells of sunshine but mostly rain, rain, rain.

AgentProvocateur · 13/07/2023 17:04

Flippers! It’s rained every day since I got here.

Coronationstation · 13/07/2023 21:18

Flippers if it carries on like this!!
i’ve been wearing normal trainers and leather trainer like shoes. I don’t do sandals!

SirChenjins · 13/07/2023 21:21

Waterproof trainers for the (many) wet days round town, loafers for work, wellies or walking boots for walking the dog, sandals for the moments when the sun shines.

stargirl1701 · 13/07/2023 21:30

My Teva sandals have been on my feet for two weeks. It's been warm and wet so they are perfect.

BigBundleOfFluff · 14/07/2023 08:23

Hear me out - sandals! Simply because it's warm with sudden torrential rain every day. If you have limited footwear with you, sandals will dry out quicker than trainers. Nothing worse than having to go out again in wet trainers and have constantly wet feet.

Goldfinch72 · 14/07/2023 18:59

We moved back to central Scotland 3 weeks ago and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s rained every.single.day! I can’t remember it ever being this bad, can’t believe this is the summer holidays!!

stargirl1701 · 14/07/2023 19:01

It's always this bad in July. I've been teaching 25 years; 3 Julys in that time have been lovely. The rest have been grey, wet and around 16 degrees.

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/07/2023 19:13

My sketchers unless I'm going to walk on grass then it's wellies.

Azaeleasinbloom · 14/07/2023 19:15

Birkenstock Arizonas, with trainers for dog walks. Been this way since May. Highlands.

Mychitchatdays · 14/07/2023 19:23

West of Scotland has been wet for weeks and to be wet for the foreseeable! I suggest swim shoes!
