If we were to marry in Edinburgh...

Hi!
We live abroad and this year for our winter holiday, were thinking of coming to Edinburgh, and we'd like to get married whilst we are there.
All the paperwork can be done online, but as it's just the two of us we wouldn't have any witnesses.
We don't know anyone in Edinburgh- am I being silly in just thinking we will be able to find two passers by at the time? I've read about it being a thing when people elope and manage to find two strangers to act as witnesses - but knowing my luck it wouldn't work!

Anyway, im really looking forward to Christmassy visit to Edinburgh, hopefully I'll find a way around the witness thing - does anyone have any ideas?

I’m jealous of all the Edinburgh people for a) having the option to be a witness and b) living in such a beautiful city.

We married at city Chambers, just the two of us, we had a photographer and she brought her dad as our witnesses.

This all sounds so exciting! Does anyone know how old you need to be to be a witness? Could your own children be witnesses if they’re 16 or over? And can you hire a registrar to be at a wedding in the middle of nowhere (I guess you pay their travel and accommodation on top) but is there a set fee?

Your wedding is going to be lovely OP. Have you booked a nice hotel?

I think you have to be 16 and over to be witness so you should be ok with your children I think you can book for a register to come to where your getting married aswel I'm still looking at hotels can't decide but need to book one soon .if you go on the Edinburgh city council website gives you all information 🥰

We got married in South Queensferry (just outside Edinburgh), the registrar asked 2 people on the street for us! It's a lovely location to get married in btw, as an alternative to the city centre - great view of the Forth Bridge.

hi we are planning on getting married at the city chambers in edinburgh on the 7th July at 10.30 am and we are doing it in secret :) as its a second marriage don't want the fuss and then we are flying away in the afternoon on holiday which will turn out to be our honeymoon, so we are looking for 2 realiable witnesses for that morning for an hour at at he most please help....

thanks still waiting for someone to accept i know its a bit away but want to be prepared :)
