Violent threats from males against females seem alright with these politicians. 😡

Course it is. But police scotland will do the square root of fuck all about it.

Workerbeep · 21/01/2023 17:38

It distasteful and symptomatic of the uncivilised society Scotland has become.

Worse when MSPs are quite happy to be in a photo with it and not say wait a minute that’s not on.

I’m prepared to be corrected but unfortunately I don’t think the hate crime bill covers this: as hate has not been expressed towards race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity.

Endpress · 21/01/2023 19:46

1 in 585 sex offenders! Offending at a rate unseen in other populations. That’s who women are afraid of and yet the SNP ratified response is to decapitate women. Peace loving trans people and their supporters must be horrified to be associated with these women haters.

PicklesAndTequila · 21/01/2023 21:20

It absolutely is.
Will anything be done about it?
Probably not.

It's made me more determined to be at Glasgow Green on the 5th, my first event.

The Maya Forstater case established gender critical views as a protected belief under equality law so you are wrong.

Kirsten Oswald is Women and Equalities Spokesperson. You couldn't make it up!!
They claim to have not seen the signs behind them🙄
Clearly the fact that these kind of signs are present at all these gatherings hadn't occurred to them. How odd.

Florissant · 21/01/2023 23:35

No, the police won't do anything about it because investigating men's hurty feels is more important than looking into death threats aimed at women.

Unfortunately I think @Workerbeep is correct. Misogyny is not a hate crime. The government considered making it a hate crime, but decided not to. (I understand the Maya Foratater case, but protected beliefs are different from hate crimes.)

So, legally, it is much worse to be hateful towards people because of their race or religion or trans status, than it is to be hateful towards women because they are women.

The House of Lords did try to make misogyny a hate crime, but the Law Commission persuaded the House of Commons to reject that approach 🤬 they said it would make prosecutions more difficult but that in my opinion is total nonsense.

You are misunderstanding, its a hate crime under the protected characteristic of religion. Being gender critical comes under religion.

Waitwhat23 · 21/01/2023 23:56

The Scottish Government didn't include misogyny in the Hate Crime Bill but instead set up a Working Group which concluded early in 2022 and made several recommendations which, on the face of it, sound good. However, they very much took a TWAW stance and I've seen the Chair quoted in another source that 'women shouldn't have to prove that they are women' which doesn't give me a great deal of confidence that the behaviour detailed in the OP will be considered by them to be an issue, that women considered 'TERFS' will be protected or that the EQA2010 single sex exemptions will be seen as important.

This is my understanding.

Not sure why the PP thought I was talking about misogyny.

The Hate Crimes Bill has note been enacted yet so is irrelevant. However this must surely be a public order offence aggravated by hate? Though actually say it is terrorism. The dictionary definition of terrorism is “the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.”.

Waitwhat23 · 22/01/2023 08:17

I agree that that the sign goes way beyond misogyny and into domestic terrorism level. Someone posted this on another thread regarding the Prevent terrorism scheme - www.thetimes.co.uk/article/prevent-anti-extremist-scheme-must-tackle-incels-mp-warns-j5ptk7b2l?shareToken=70abd3014c9504a546d96828c7877689

No, hate’s just been expressed towards half the population. But that’s OK, it’s only women.

it’s awful I agree @Workerbeep to realise how much men hate women and how much we’ve internalised that.

I didn’t know that

Glad to hear it, I’d like to see it actioned on now

Workerbeep · 22/01/2023 08:38

Any apology or condemnation of the poster from the MSPs in the photo/video?

these MSP need to explain their actions and held responsible.
Why do they think this is ok?

Imagine the uproar and arrests of it was the other way around.

People really need to stop voting for them. I think that’s the only really effective action we have.

Waitwhat23 · 22/01/2023 08:40

Only reaction I've seen is 'I've not got eyes in the back of my head'.

Pathetic response. But it doesn't surprise me.

Rainbowshit · 22/01/2023 10:35

They'll say it was just a joke, he didn't mean it. But some online may see the tacit approval and be emboldened by it.

They all clearly thought the sign was absolutely fine, it was there for the whole protest and not one single person said "that is a shocking sign take it down."

One thing's for sure they now cannot deny the threats made by the TRAs now. And the overriding image of their protest is one of violent threats against females.

So thanks for that I guess? 🤔

OP posts:
Workerbeep · 22/01/2023 11:01

It’s awful they are awful and the people that vote for them are awful!

I’ve just listened to the speech Miriam Coates made in the common last week and she eloquently summed up my feelings.

Freedoms for women are going backwards.

The Forstater case established that gender critical views are protected beliefs under the Equality Act, but that is civil law. Criminal prosecutions occur under criminal law where different legislation applies.

JackieDaws · 22/01/2023 11:15

According to someone on Twitter, it was just a joke and we all need to calm down because socialists are nice people. Said the TIM with a Che Guevara userpic.

Workerbeep · 22/01/2023 11:26

I don’t understand why it’s funny. they need to explain it to me.

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2023 11:28

How is it funnier about women over wishing a black man dead for example - which did lead to an arrest

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2023 11:30

It’s hugely concerning on a wider level what will be tolerated against women as political left gain ground

I really hope we’re not all on minority threads in a few years really upset at how much violence and backlash plus erasure we have to endure

If mn still allows it
