HeraldicBlazoning · 26/11/2022 18:06

Sad news. Lovely man who did everything in his power to raise awareness of his condition.

Tomorrowisanewday · 26/11/2022 18:10

Legend on the pitch, legend in life. Saw him speak at a lunch before a game at Murrayfield in 2019, still hilarious to listen to, despite everything he was going through. RIP Doddie

RIP Doddie

HoldingTheDoor · 26/11/2022 18:11

That's tragic. It's such a cruel disease and he was such an amazing man. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

medicatedgift · 26/11/2022 18:13

ChicCroissant · 26/11/2022 18:16

That's very sad - he did a lot to raise awareness of the condition.

MissyB1 · 26/11/2022 18:29

Very sad, such a bloody cruel disease. I feel so sorry for anyone diagnosed with that, one of our local (Gloucester) rugby players was diagnosed earlier this year 🙁

RIP Doddie.

Els1e · 26/11/2022 18:30

That’s sad. Such a brave, lovely man.

SavouryFlavour · 26/11/2022 18:34

We saw him bring on the match ball with his family at Murrayfield a few weeks ago and you could almost feel the swell of emotion from the stadium, as well as the applause. Such tremendous courage and determination. RIP Doddie.

Piffpaffpoff · 26/11/2022 19:12

Such sad news. But what an amazing man, to take such an awful diagnosis and turn it into such a force for good.

Scautish · 26/11/2022 19:55

this Is just so sad. Age 52. But my goodness what an impact. An amazing person and a huge loss.

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 26/11/2022 20:08

He achieved as much following his diagnosis as he did before, I think. Larger than life, with a rare and wonderful generosity of spirit. We're in the Borders and he is viewed as a real hero here.

So sad. As you say, legend.

Porkydorky · 26/11/2022 20:11

He is absolutely a real hero. I saw him play and was in awe, and then as his diagnosis progressed I continued in awe of his amazing determination and dignity. RIP Doddie

Breathmiller · 26/11/2022 20:19

Yes, a giant of a man down here in the Borders.

RIP Doddie. Thank you for all you have done to bring awareness to this awful condition.

To think he was smiling just a few weeks ago as he came out to the match. What a man.

gingercat02 · 26/11/2022 20:32

As a non Scottish rugby fan this took my breath away tonight. Such a good bloke, ambassador for the sport and fabulous player. RIP Doddie

MrsBungle · 26/11/2022 20:34

From a fellow Borderer RIP Doddie. What a legend.

LoopyGremlin · 26/11/2022 20:38

Sad news tonight. He has done so much to publicise and raise money for this horrific disease.

RIP Doddie.

Trulyweird1 · 26/11/2022 20:47

So sad. Giant of a man. Feel so sorry for his family and the community of MND rugby players, and their families, who must really be feeling this so close to home tonight.
RIP Doddie.

Scautish · 26/11/2022 20:51

I’m not from Borders but as a Scotland rugby fan, very appreciative of the rugby talent which constantly emerges from the region. I did see Doddie on his Scotland debut in 1990 (bs Argentina). I remember everyone talking about this really young guy in the forward pack.

Maybe this isn’t allowed but Doddie campaigned relentlessly for MND and if anyone needed any presents/stocking fillers there could be something here:

His dignity and determination in adversity should inspire us all.

spidereggs · 26/11/2022 21:27

An inspiration and hero, a close rural friend.

I had the honour And privilege of attending his charity ball five years ago come January. Absolutely incredible. Rip you gentle, kind man,
