Queen’s route through Edinburgh

Does anyone know the exact route of the Queens cortège through Edinburgh? Is it listed somewhere? I checked online but couldn’t see it. I live here and could probably walk to somewhere where I can pay respects. Thanks.

Same here! I looked at the road closures list on the council website but it didn't really help. The Scottish Govt website has details up to going into Perth then nothing after that. I don't really want to go up to the Mile as it'll be rammed and I don't think I'd see anything.

Just logistically, from the bridges its likely her hearse will head on the A90, Queensferry Road, Princess Street, Mound then Royal Mile.

Local talk is she is due to arrive at Holyrood between 3 and 4pm.

We were at Holyrood today to lay flowers and I wouldn't have described it as busy by Edinburgh standards. Popular, rather than busy.

I am going to Edinburgh today with my boys and had exactly the same questions. The media is all "the cortege will drive into Edinburgh" but doesn't say HOW. The road closure map isn't helpful either. The communication has been poor - no details about the logistics of going to St Giles if you want to.

I did see that the cortege will go the length of the Royal Mile so from Castle Terrace at the top - I thought perhaps along Western Approach Road and that way through Tollcross and the West Port?

The BBC says "In the capital the procession will enter from the west of the city, skirt by Edinburgh Castle and down the full length of the Royal Mile to the The Palace of Holyroodhouse by about 16:00."

JamMakingWannaBe · 11/09/2022 08:51

The Daily Mail says
"using the Queensferry Crossing – opened by Her Majesty five years ago – to cross the Forth. After passing through Edinburgh’s western suburbs, it will skirt the Royal Botanic Gardens and Edinburgh Castle before its dramatic arrival at Holyroodhouse."

Not particularly helpful.

My elderly parents would like to pay their respects so we are looking for somewhere we can park up and wait.

I get that they don;t want to give a second by second route for security reasons. Major operation for Police Scotland. But there's a balance, isn't there?

So many people want to pay their respects.

backaftera2yearbreak · 11/09/2022 08:57

I don’t think it will go down princes street. They said it’s going down the royal mile which suggests to me they will go up Lothian road then Round the back of the castle to come on to the royal mile.

spangleswereace · 11/09/2022 08:59

We're in South Queensferry and folk are saying she's expected across the Queensferry crossing at 15.20 then will go along the A90 and onto Queensferry Road. The streets are lined with cones already.

weebarra · 11/09/2022 09:05

If that schedule is correct, she's passing the end of the street where I work. Might pop out!

@enidcat5
Can you share your source? Those details are still quite hard to read.

Tempted to drive to Dundee!

KassandraOfSparta · 11/09/2022 09:28

A bridge over the M90 south would be a good place.

usernamespeltrong · 11/09/2022 09:30

@Enidcat5 I was going to ask the same thing as @JamMakingWannaBe before I start walking in! What source is that from?

sidewayswalking · 11/09/2022 09:39

The blue and red picture is not correct. Nobody is getting from Dundee to the Friarton Bridge in 9 minutes. I don't know about the rest but I would ignore that one altogether.

Enidcat5 · 11/09/2022 10:50

Both from an Edinburgh residents Facebook page. No idea if accurate. I think the detailed one posted by the first poster is probably the most accurate

Enidcat5 · 11/09/2022 10:51

I live in Edinburgh BTW. I've just driven across the queensferry crossing and there is no sign of anything set up yet

It's a major route so I'd imagine it will be a rolling stop for traffic, rather than close the bridge.

JamMakingWannaBe · 11/09/2022 11:11

From watching the BBC news coverage, the procession is slowing very much in the larger towns so we wouldn't want to be waiting on a main road where they seem to be speeding up.

They were due in Aberdeen at 11am and are still not through Banchory.

littlbrowndog · 11/09/2022 11:29

I think it’s this route I think the cortège will go through corstorphine but not sure

Everything I’ve seen says Queensferry Road.
