Rookie that's ridiculous do your friend a favour and 'highlight' that guidance with some of the papers and opposition MSPs. That sounds like something that's been forgotten about especially when the rest of society is down to 7 days (and give it 3 weeks to England try it we'll be down to 5 days)

WouldBeGood · 14/01/2022 07:39

Oh, @rookiemere, that’s so sad. How can this still be happening? Just cruel.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 14/01/2022 07:46

Postpone the funeral?

Lockdownbear · 14/01/2022 07:51

Holding the funeral a few days later would make sense. I think in Scotland we are so used to funerals being within 7 days at the latest we forget we don't need to take the first available date.

It sounds like one of those bits of advice that's been put in place never to have been reviewed.

rookiemere · 14/01/2022 08:18

Thanks folks for replying. Funeral is already pretty late as the lady passed away before Christmas.

rookiemere · 14/01/2022 08:20

My friend is pretty assertive so I hope she'll find a way through.

Groovee · 14/01/2022 09:36

Oh man parent club. As a practitioner I hate when we get the "share this with your parents!"

Nursery is really tough just now. Lots of separation anxiety from children and parents. Lots of things that have been missed due to no HV visits. Seeing lots of social skills being missed by no toddler groups, zoom classes, not being able to visit soft plays. We've decided to concentrate on their well-being this term as last term nearly broke us.

mapleleavesreturn · 14/01/2022 13:04

How awful rookie someone needs to make an exception here. I wonder why you can't get funeral attendees to sign waivers that they're happy to take the covid risk like you can for other risk situations so the DH can attend.

grovee interesting point - I reckon they will have to build a lot more mental health support into the curriculum given the last two years.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/01/2022 13:33

Oh @rookiemere that's awful. If your friend's DF is testing negative by the day of the funeral he would perhaps be able to claim disability discrimination as he presumably lives in a care home because he's disabled? Therefore the isolation guidance is discriminatory. I hope the care home manager is sympathetic to his situation and makes an exception for him.

@Groovee When it was the done thing to be a resilience wanker during the lockdowns I was doubting my sanity thinking, that if you heard of a child in normal times who had a rare medical condition that meant they weren't allowed contact with people outwith their home you'd be heart sorry for the huge effect it must have on them. I don't think I'd have coped with my wee ones in a lockdown.

Scottishskifun · 14/01/2022 13:51

@groovee it's interesting to get a practitioners experience, these were exactly my fears with DS throughout lockdowns.
So when in England visiting in 2020 we went to soft plays, petting farms etc and when back home encouraged independent play in playgrounds and meet ups where possible. even when against the rules would "bump" into friends

I must have been told on MN that softplays, toddler sessions, swimming lessons didn't matter they were resilent and wouldn't know any different at least 10 times!

I hate that the effects on children of all ages seems to be completely brushed under the carpet by govt it's so incredibly damaging!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/01/2022 13:55

Oh that's awful Rookie. Your poor friend and DF. I hope they find a way through. It's inhumane, it really is.

OnceUponAWhine · 14/01/2022 18:55

Rookie hope they can find a way around all that. They really shouldn’t have toSad, hope the care home sit on the right side of compassion and common sense.

Tiredoftiers · 16/01/2022 09:40

Prof mark woolhouse has written a book. The year the world went mad. A scientific memoir from the pandemic. Out towards the end of February. I’m interested to see what he has to say.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/01/2022 09:59

That sounds interesting. Just the one year the world went mad though? Grin

Tiredoftiers · 16/01/2022 10:01

That’s what I thought. Nearly two years and still ongoing.

WouldBeGood · 16/01/2022 10:17

Yes, interesting though as it’s an acknowledgment from a “normal” scientist that things have been crazy. Which is good! Thanks @Tiredoftiers

I’m gey fed up of it.

Really hoping for some positive news from herself on Tuesday.

I was in Glasgow yesterday, and whilst it was brilliant fun watching them transform the streets into Gotham for filming Batgirl, the restaurants and bars were pretty much deserted.

January is a tough month anyway, so I can't imagine how bad it must be now, especially when the festive season got ruined like that for hospitality.

See this smoke/heat alarm business? People seem to be rushing to get it done before the deadline but in my head it would only be an issue if/when one sold? My neighbour works in insurance and said it won't invalidate existing insurance policies as they're national and this is a Scotland-specific requirement.

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 16/01/2022 13:30

Is there due to be an update this week? Could do with the three households rule to be gone by next weekend for a family birthday.

ecceromani · 16/01/2022 13:40

3 household is only advice.
It is not a rule.
But I suppose it depends on whether you're talking about 6 or 7 households or a party with 30 households.
Lots of people are doing their own risk assessment around this and just making sure everyone tests first.

Lockdownbear · 16/01/2022 13:56

Definitely do your own risk assessment that one.

Technically I was out with 7 people, classed as 5 or 7 households depending on how you count it whos in a bubble with who. The restraunt turned a blind eye to it.

We all did tests before we went out. That I was happy with, I'd be less happy to go out with 7 people from different houses if they all had kids in schools, and partners working with the public etc.

WouldBeGood · 16/01/2022 15:22

I think the three households is a rule if you’re out?

Though how they’d police I do not know.

Scottishskifun · 16/01/2022 15:46

@WouldBeGood

I think the three households is a rule if you’re out?

Though how they’d police I do not know.

It's both supposed to be for private households as well......

I don't think many are paying attention to it though given its guidance for private households - it's stricter for cafes and restaurants in theory but actually enforcement is tricky so I don't really think many places are doing it!

rookiemere · 16/01/2022 15:50

We were out to a steak place last night for DHs birthday, it was absolutely heaving - so much so that I wondered if there was some discount that we didn't know about. The loud table of 8 women behind us certainly didn't all seem from the same household.

Pub lunch at South Queensferry today, restaurant turning people away who hadn't reserved.

I think the demand is there, just need to relax the household numbers thing and stop restricting indoor numbers.

WouldBeGood · 16/01/2022 15:58

Yes, I thought the private households was guidance and hospitality law.

That’s good to hear @rookiemere! Sounds like you’re having a good weekend 😊

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 16/01/2022 16:19

Oh! Seeing reports that all restrictions except isolating for five days after positive test, and LFTs for travel are to be scrapped in England after 26th January!
