Oh yes good old parent club which told me to work in the corner of a room whilst on a laptop working full time during lockdown.......yep that worked! Confused

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2022 22:13

Oh my fucking god @GoldenOmber!!

From January 2021 with nurseries closed, how to work with toddlers around.

Okay now I’ll stop, or I’ll still be seething about ParentClub in fifty years’ time with my grandchildren rolling their eyes at me!

I can’t look, or rage will stop me sleeping

God I've never looked on that website 😂😂

OnceUponAWhine · 12/01/2022 22:47

Oh ParentClub HmmAngry

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2022 23:00

Oh Christ @GoldenOmber, I'd forgotten about them closing the nurseries a year ago. The only one of the UK nations to do so I seem to remember as the others recognised that having toddlers/babies around made work impossible and children that young were very ĺow risk, but we were still chasing the zero COVID unicorn. I guess the questionable decisions go quite far back when you sit and remember! That ParentClub entry says it all though doesn't it - build a den so you can have a few minutes to do something else like make a nice cup of tea or do some housework, because of course we're all 50s style homemakers. Where's the advice for keeping the 2 year old quiet while you Zoom with clients or write that urgent report? I'm getting the rage again now!

Tiredoftiers · 12/01/2022 23:02

Parentclub can’t even give the right advice regarding isolation.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 23:24

Thank goodness I never read it. I'd have been bouncing.
Closing nurseries is one of the reasons I decided LO should go into school this year. I just thought if they did it again I'd rather he was in school, the number of days last winter the wee guy just didn't see daylight, between trying to get the oldest to do school work, then my own work, it was dark by the time I was done.
Really it was absolute shite. Poor kids

shouldistop · 13/01/2022 05:47

Ah good old parent club, written by people who have never tried to work from home whilst looking after a small child.

shouldistop · 13/01/2022 05:52

@MaxNormal I'd be tempted to make myself a vaccination appointment if I were you. Turn up with your letter, they'll obviously refuse to vaccinate you then surely to god they'll be forced to sort something out.

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2022 08:00

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar save yourself, don’t look at it! 🤣

Isn't the main effect of parent club to depress parents? it seems to be the unintended consequence!

Icannever · 13/01/2022 08:20

Those parent club screen shots make me want to scream into a pillow. I actually feel like I am having a panic attack if I think about those months of home schooling 😭

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 13/01/2022 09:04

I know what you mean @Icannever. I get angry when I think about the state DS was in during those months of isolation second time around, with us all being pretty stressed trying to work/home school and keep everyone on a level at the same time. And the responses you got from MSPs (pointless seat fillers who seem unable to challenge SG policy even if they do reluctantly agree with you) were just that children were resilient and to get on with it.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/01/2022 09:08

@WouldBeGood I remember someone on here calling me a 'parent club wanker' because I posted saying actually I was fairly happy. I'd been furloughed from a job that made me so miserable I'd been signed off for three months at the end of 2019, so to me furlough was like being set free - and still being paid most of my salary! I was also able to give my son attention he desperately needed as he has Tourette's, furlough meant be able to stop juggling him and work.

I didn't know what they meant at the time but I've just clicked.

Ah well! Grin

mapleleavesreturn · 13/01/2022 09:19

My younger dd started compulsive weeing in the first lockdown at bedtime and I had to put her back in night nappies so she'd calm enough to sleep some - I've just managed to get her mostly dry at night again this holiday, nearly two years later!

I'm happy for anyone that has gotten good things out of lockdown but few upsides personally.

Scottishskifun · 13/01/2022 09:24

@blameitontheblackstar ah yes joyous parent club! I wish my employer would have furloughed me but like many they refused or to classify as a key worker despite my sector being on the list! Working full time with a 13 month old was hell!
I remember being so bloody relieved (and feeling very lucky) when it dropped to 1 key worker as our LA did adopt it and DS returned to nursery 3 months later.

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us completely agree the perception from govt that it wouldn't effect children. My DS went from an outgoing confident boy to be scared of others and incredibly quiet. It took quite a while to get his confidence back! My HV told me the number of referrals for development delay had quadrupled in our area mainly due to lockdowns!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/01/2022 09:26

It wasn't a bed of roses. My sons Tourette's escalated dramatically to the point he was constantly shouting swear words at the top of his lungs. It was really fucking upsetting. And I got made redundant a few weeks after a team mate committed suicide.

But there were good days. The weather that year was beautiful and we could all just hang out together on nice days, which is something you don't do much in a normal week.

I was totally a wanker for saying that though. Apparently.

Scottishskifun · 13/01/2022 10:10

@blameitontheblackstar sounds stressful but yes to the good weather we got a WiFi booster so could work in the garden whilst DS played with water table etc was a game changer!

I think many people were at their wits ends and pushed to the limits tbh all day home schooling/childcare whilst juggling work and often working til stupid o clock to catch up with work and clinging on for dear life with their finger nails! All for it to start again at 7am!

I was jealous of friends who got furloughed as they didn't feel they were being torn I to 10 pieces trying to juggle everything and spent proper time with their children doing activities at home. But on flipside I had more job security and potential financial worries then I did. And friends who work in the NHS didn't see my issue with wfh suddenly when they were worried about bringing a virus back to their families it's all Swings and round abouts really!

I am still working from home nearly 2 years on and it's shite! My bills are through the roof and there feels like there is zero separation between work and home!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/01/2022 10:17

It totally is swings and roundabouts. It's sad really, looking back, how it divided us and still does.

I'm on another thread just now where some people are posting about the horrific things they were dealing with on the day of the Downing St party, and others are on there crowing about the majority being sheep for following the rules and how Covid is just survival of the fittest in action.

I mean, what can they be thinking, posting that on a thread filled with grieving mothers, daughters, sisters, and entirely unapologetically? This has fucked up our society in so many ways.

Lockdownbear · 13/01/2022 10:17

I think I almost forget just how hard those lockdowns were. It's almost like i block it out.
During the first one my older son was so depressed I caved and bought the xbox, its wasn't ideal but it helped.

I never realised how much kids need play to communicate- they don't know how to talk on a phone or zoom. Girls are slightly better than boys at it, maybe just my experience but the conversations he had with girls were better, even if it did mean them sitting on their beds introducing each other to a bundle of cuddly toys.

Scottishskifun · 13/01/2022 10:19

@rookiemere not sure if you have seen.....France to allow UK travellers from Friday but needs a PCR which is 24 hours old.....
Some airports do rapid PCR tests it's 3 hours from DH recent get away!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/01/2022 10:28

@Lockdownbear the absolute blank eyes my daughter had during that time will never leave me.

Oh I'm getting upset just typing that. She looked like she wouldn't care if she didn't wake up tomorrow. It was terrifying.

Now she is full full full of joy, and it makes my heart so happy to see her like this. I hope we never have to go back.

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2022 10:31

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar that was probably me 😳

I didn’t cope well with lockdown.

Any positivity drove me insane, so I started these threads🤣
