Just to digress, where actually IS Sturgeon at the moment? She's as entitled to a break as anyone but rumours she's on holiday overseas wont sit well with the messages for everyone to stay at home and not socialise.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2022 17:44

If she's abroad I really hope the papers get her and expose that's she's no different from Boris and Co.
I have SNP friends who were really upset about the Downing St party photos and firmly believed SNP were different.

Haudyourwheesht · 08/01/2022 20:30

There is no way she'd be abroad. She has many many, many, many, many faults, but she's principled. There's no way she'd go abroad when advising others not to. Even if only to maintain the moral upper hand.

ResilienceWanker · 08/01/2022 20:38

Yeah, she won't be abroad. I don't think she'd ever escape being spotted on a minibreak to Benidorm while telling us we can't take non essential bus journeys. Grin

OnceUponAWhine · 08/01/2022 20:47

Just seeing pics from the march in GW today. I’m clearly following the wrong accounts on Twitter as I had no idea it was on- I would have joined that if I lived in Glasgow. Thousands marched, apparently.

As for the rumour NS went abroad, it’s been strongly suggested there’s an injunction in place to stop any reporting on ‘holidays’ for security reasons. One rule for them, etc, etc.

ecceromani · 08/01/2022 20:54

@ResilienceWanker

Oh that did make me laughGrin There's no way she's abroad, she'll be at the caravan at Pettycur bay
titsintiers · 08/01/2022 21:18

Wearing tartan and eating shortbread no doubt.

ElephantOfRisk · 08/01/2022 21:33

Ah well, if we are going by twitter comments then NS will be in my neck of the woods with her lesbian lover. Should have parked up outside the chippy to see if they've treated themselves 😂

titsintiers · 08/01/2022 21:44

That one never seems to die down does it

Scottishskifun · 08/01/2022 22:09

Well Sturgeon is back on twitter on her favourite topic of independence funding and big bad Westminster! So if she was/is on holiday then normal service has been resumed!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 09/01/2022 09:30

I saw that @Scottishskifun. I guess it's not surprising. The harsher rules have yet again not left us any better off whatsoever, and we are in fact in a slightly worse position infection wise, so she can't have her supporters starting to wonder if maybe the UK government is handling it better. Best find something to criticise them about sharpish, and if people don't think about it too deeply reducing testing fits the bill. She can milk this as the 'reason' why Scotland has high COVID levels for months and no doubt her supporters will lap it up and the press just report what she says verbatim as usual. They're only talking about stopping asymptomatic testing for the masses of course, and HCWs, teachers etc. plus anyone with symptoms would still qualify, but of course she hasn't mentioned that. Just shared a headline that implies free tests are ending altogether and tells her followers how utterly irresponsible it is (before launching into the obligatory rant about funding powers).

Personally, I think it's a sensible step in the wind down of the acute response going forward. 98% of us have so e kind of immunity now so we're hardly still in a emergency phase. We can't stop spread and if we are to live with it, testing everyone without symptoms is not sustainable or particularly useful. Much better to concentrate resources on people more likely to spread (I.e. symptomatic), or in higher risk settings like healthcare. All in all I think it's a sensible policy.

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 09:36

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us fully agree it can't be funded forever!
I also find it slightly ironic that Sturgeon seems to always look to what the Republic of Ireland are doing and wants to replicate....... a place which charges for LFT they are 1 euro each so a box would be 7 euros! But as per those details are left out and its just her horror at potentially scale back!

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2022 09:41

I think asymptomatic testing has to end sooner or later. Has anyone read reports covid could go on for another 6 years!!!!

We can't keep restrictions that long.

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 10:07

6 years?!!!! Shock that will be the majority of DS childhood given we are 2 years in now pretty much!

I am not having him think normal life is masks, signs and staying away from everything and everyone!

Tomorrowisanewday · 09/01/2022 11:24

Lockdownbear - I had read some really interesting research about 5 years ago, and their opinion was that the next epidemic would last 5 years. Given how badly this one has been dealt with world-wide, I don't think 6 years is out of line. However, that time doesn't all need to be living as we are now. Their findings were that the virus will mutate as we've seen, but will become an illness like flu, and should be dealt with in that way. I'll try and find a link to it for you.

Lidlfix · 09/01/2022 11:57

The PHS team that DH consults with say 5 years. Cannot fathom not even being half way. Sad

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 14:05

Ranting at the Scottish health secretary suggesting that CO2 monitors are a mitigation measure in schools......they aren't the mitigation they just highlight where ventilation is poor!

Also she has completely paraphrased the HSE website guidelines on ventilation! HSE is clear natural
Ventilation is best if not possible or still poor ventilation then mechanical should be used!

Pissed off that the SG is trying to justify their complete lack of action to improve schools with a UK regulatory body and cherry picking the information! She is just showing she has no idea how risk assessments and mitigations work!!!!

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 14:06

Sorry education secretary

Iwantthesummersun · 09/01/2022 14:19

We still do not have co2 monitors widely across classrooms in all areas. Mine was in for less than a day. We have none in our school. We have 14 classes plus nursery.

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2022 14:43

I now cannot find where I read the 6 years thing. But that will certainly give people a different perspective of restrictions & masks and the mitigations they are prepared to put up with.

A pharmacist friend commented after the first lockdown that covid we'd be in this for at least 2-3 years and there was no way she was going to serve the general public but not see her mum!

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 14:43

@Iwantthesummersun

It's shocking as you can bet the SG offices will have them in certain areas!

The point of them is to give info on ventilation if you have no way of improving that level because the window and door is already open then they are pretty pointless! For Somerville to suggest schools have proper mitigation measures is farcical!

Schools are doing what they can with extremely limited resources of windows but SG seemingly buried their head in the sand in terms of how you actually properly improve it! Masks certainly don't they still allow build up!

WouldBeGood · 09/01/2022 15:26

It has now been shown that there is no evidence benefit to masks in schools.

I know I keep saying that, but this stupid masking really has to stop. Pointless and dystopian, for no benefit.

I knew I read it somewhere - front page of Mail in Sunday on the BBC News website - the article is about reducing the amount of asymptomatic lateral flow tests being carried out.

Not surprisingly ScotGov aren't happy- irresponsible bla bla bla.

But we have to get on with life, I can see the point in testing where people are vulnerable, hospitals, care homes, etc

Scottishskifun · 09/01/2022 20:12

I have never tested twice a week only people I know who do are people for their jobs!
I have done more over Christmas period but because we have seen vulnerable people. This and being able to see a Dr will be the only points I would going forward other then when landing back from holidays!

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2022 20:24

I've never done twice a week either but like yourself tested just incase when seeing vulnerable people at Christmas.
