Love that photo @prettybird. We used to tip our tree out the front window in our own house, though we've gone fake in recent years.

prettybird · 09/01/2022 21:34

@WouldBeGood

Great action shot *@prettybird*🤣

I'll admit that it's a still of the video that I took of the event Grin

Haudyourwheesht · 09/01/2022 21:55

We had a bitter Orange and cardamom martini on Christmas Day. It was gorgeous, if a major contributor to the post dinner nap.

WouldBeGood · 09/01/2022 22:31

Oh my, that sounds good @Haudyourwheesht

titsintiers · 10/01/2022 06:18

That sounds amazing @Haudyourwheesht and if you can't have a nap on Christmas Day then when can you?!

Groovee · 10/01/2022 06:54

Back to normal here. Worked extra days last week but I'm exhausted now. Would quite like to be off this week 😭

GrouchyKiwi · 10/01/2022 11:15

We're back into things today too. 5 year olds are equal parts gorgeous and frustrating.

shouldistop · 10/01/2022 14:00

Grin you can say that again.
shouldistop · 11/01/2022 09:57

Christ, I've been on hold to the doctors for over 30 minutes Shock

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2022 10:35

That’s rubbish @shouldistop! Hope you eventually got through

shouldistop · 11/01/2022 10:46

After about 40 minutes! Telephone appointment this afternoon. Ds1 has ringing in his ears. Told me at the weekend but seems to think everyone has it and says he's had it forever Sad

GrouchyKiwi · 12/01/2022 17:24

Today has been one of those days when I question why on Earth I thought it would be a good idea to home educate. Could happily sell the children.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2022 17:46

🤣 @GrouchyKiwi

@shouldistop did you get anywhere with the GP? Poor ds

ElephantOfRisk · 12/01/2022 18:39

Oh dear Grouchy, I could never have done that. Apart from the fact I was at work anyway, there would have been two small mounds in the back garden one day.

@shouldistop, I hope you get somewhere with that. DS1 still awaiting proper investigations into his tinnitus and hearing loss but hey ho, covid....

For those that offered advice for DS1s interview, he had it yesterday and went "fine". Managed to get him to have his hair cut to just past collar length - but all that length, not just the back. They did his beard too and he looked far tidier. Wore his collared shirt and the interview was mainly just going over stuff in his CV so no competency type stuff. He said he was able to answer everything. The guy is sending out a "challenge" for those being interviewed. He was the first interview I think and maybe 5 folk in for that placement.

He's getting 3 hours a week this term face to face and DS2 is also getting at least that so that's good news.

DS1 and I started our baking class last night and made delicious bread and DS2 going back up to Uni on Friday, it's been lovely having him home, that's been 4 weeks and is the longest he's been home since he went back up after lock down. I'll miss him when he goes again but I'm happy that he's happy.

Sorry, shouldistop, I missed your post. I hope the GP was helpful for your DS. Tinnitus is horrible to live with.

Well done to your DS, Elephant. That sounds like good experience for him. Good luck for the next stage!

I've decided to make tomorrow a more fun day, so we'll play Scrabble for English, and make honeycomb for food science (if I have the right ingredients).

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2022 21:08

Sounds promising @ElephantOfRisk! And I love bread

ElephantOfRisk · 12/01/2022 21:20

It's his first ever interview, all we really wanted from this was him not to be traumatised and actually speak. He said fine, but he did seem a little chirpy afterwards, a mixture of just being glad it was over and also of having not embarrassed himself I think.

Hope he gets at least one more regardless of success, just to get a bit more experience.

I feel for him @ElephantOfRisk. I’m quite perky and sociable, but turn bonkers in interviews 🤣

ElephantOfRisk · 12/01/2022 21:44

Thanks @wouldbegood, I bet you are entertaining Grin

Dh and I are both pretty quiet so we have to turn it up a bit in interviews, we were saying to him to just fake it and just be a little bit more outgoing. Because you are pretending, you can still protect your own soul. If that makes sense?

We just said to be polite and smile and look them in the eye. I told him to think of one of his friends or someone he knows that is quite like him but just a bit more outgoing and then model them.

Great advice

shouldistop · 13/01/2022 05:58

The doctor phoned me back and has asked me to bring him in this afternoon, he's excited as he'll get to go to the school office and be collected early - the little things for a 5yo!

@ElephantOfRisk that sounds really good, hopefully it's given him a confidence boost even if he doesn't get it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/01/2022 07:10

Ah, bless him @shouldistop!

Interviews are hard @ElephantOfRisk but it sounds like it went fine. Most interviewers (decent ones anyway) understand that young people don't have a lot of experience of that kind of situation so will cut some slack.

I'm trying to decide what to do on my birthday in a few weeks. DH and I have both taken the day off (it's midweek) Don't really fancy going out for a nice lunch as may go out for tea instead do DC can come. But really can't think of anything to do in the day. I feel like I want to go somewhere, maybe further afield than Edinburgh city centre but I don't know where!

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2022 07:57

Stroll out to Modern One, browse art, and light lunch/cake in the cafe, @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo?

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2022 07:57

Good luck with doc @shouldistop

ElephantOfRisk · 13/01/2022 08:11

Thanks all.

Good luck at the GP shouldIstop.

I don't know where you are based, but what about a drive and not a big lunch, but maybe just a soup and cake type thing? I generally like going to see water so would maybe head to the coast or something. Or, the falls of dochart were spectacular at the beginning of January and there are a few places to grab something to eat. Or a stroll round Peebles? Nice walks (not too strenuous and on forest tracks) if you go through Peebles, over the bridge and take the back road towards innerleithen/traquair, small carpark with marked trails and lovely views. Caldwells for an ice cream in either innerleithen or Peebles.
