Hi

Has anyone heard about their flu vaccine yet? I'm an over 50 asthmatic and have always had it by now

Thanks

My mum is getting hers next week along with her covid booster. She is in her 70s and was in the shielding group. She has to go to a vaccination centre for them

dementedpixie · 16/10/2021 17:47

Nhs inform currently says this:

How will I get the vaccine?

Those aged 70 or over will be contacted by their local NHS health board with details about their appointment.

Information about how to arrange your flu vaccination for all other eligible individuals will be available soon. Please do not phone your GP practice or NHS 24 for this information.

bordersroaming · 16/10/2021 18:47

Dh was shielded

Yeah I saw the thing on the web site but it was dated a month ago. Soon to me means days or weeks not months. I am impatient

If they're only starting to do age 70+ then you may have a bit longer to wait. Or you could get one in a pharmacy instead (although I think you'd need to pay for that)

bordersroaming · 16/10/2021 18:52

Seems queue jumping to get one from the chemist but may be worth checking out thanks

I'm in West Lothian and got mine done at a local pharmacy. I just booked a time slot....and got it for free as I am over 50. If you are in Lothian health board I'd suggest contacting some pharmacies.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/10/2021 19:00

I usually get my flu jab at the pharmacy because < TL:DR stupid doctors insist, wrong list, jobsworthnurse won't cooperate> but last year the pharmacies were not doing them unless you were NHS staff, however for some reason the surgery actually called me up and I did get it from the surgery about a week later

So I don't know if it will be the same this year, maybe go earlier rather than later if you hope to get one outwith the NHS.

TheApprentice · 16/10/2021 19:01

It's not queue jumping...anyone over 50 is eligible. My pharmacy are also doing slots for private flu jags.

checkedroses · 16/10/2021 19:02

In a lot of areas it been taken away from GPs partially or completely and is being organised centrally by the health board instead. For us it means GPs are only doing over 80s and everyone else is being done centrally. It may be they are doing them with the covid boosters for the over 50s which are being done in the same reverse order age groups as the first two. In normal years we’d have finished our flu vaccines by now pretty much but I think covid boosting is (probably rightly) taking priority just now.

Wellthatsit · 16/10/2021 19:02

I got an appointment letter today for my covid booster later this month. I am immunocompromised but also over 50.
The letter said I MAY get my flu vaccine at the same time as the covid booster. Not sure what happens if I don't get it!

LastStarfighter · 16/10/2021 19:07

I tried to get mine through the GP but was told it might take a while. Booked at the pharmacy and was cancelled, twice, as they didn’t have any vaccines.

To late now … I caught flu a few days ago. 48 year old asthmatic. Feeling rubbish and currently wheezy as hell.

bordersroaming · 16/10/2021 19:15

Oh no laststar, hope you recover soon

AuntieStella · 16/10/2021 19:17

I get mine (on NHS) at a local pharmacy, as they always seem to have them earlier than the GP does,

Hope you're on the mend soon LastStarfighter Flowers

LastStarfighter · 16/10/2021 19:22

Thanks. I’m making the best of it, getting the kids to run around after me while I sleep and distract myself with Netflix. At least I won’t have to bother with the vaccination afterwards Smile. Always a silver lining.

clockover · 16/10/2021 19:25

Over 70s and CEV being done here just now.

Both my teens have had it privately at Boots - it was only £15

agirlnamedjen · 16/10/2021 19:32

My Nan who is in her 80's only just got hers last week, mum who's in her 60's still hasn't heard. I'm asthmatic so was hoping to get one this year, I couldn't last as nowhere had any, but I'd imagine it will be weeks before I hear so I may try go private

Quickchangeartiste · 16/10/2021 19:34

Had mine 2 weeks ago with COVID booster - CEV - NHS Grampian . Talked to neighbours - many of them also done.
2nd year of being done outside GP surgeries, and seems to be moving along.

Itawapuddytat · 16/10/2021 23:20

Had mine today, together with the Covid booster, in Glasgow (I am NHS staff)

ssd · 17/10/2021 09:15

I paid 14.99 to get mine in boots the other week

Im scared of needles and just wanted it over with

amazeandastonish · 17/10/2021 09:56

My new job pays for mine so I'm getting it on Friday

Groovee · 17/10/2021 09:58

I was offered it at work as all school staff were being vaccinated if they wanted to.

Haudyourwheesht · 17/10/2021 10:39

Apparently they're doing them with covid jabs at the drop in at Glasgow Central Mosque.

ssd · 17/10/2021 12:42

They have a drop in clinic for age 12 and over at the mosque, but i didn't see anything on the website about the flu jag.

dementedpixie · 17/10/2021 12:44

It might be for pre booked appointments. My mum is getting both flu and her covid booster at Ravenscraig next week

Haudyourwheesht · 17/10/2021 13:25

@ssd

They have a drop in clinic for age 12 and over at the mosque, but i didn't see anything on the website about the flu jag.
It seems a bit of a grey area. My friend went for her second covid jag and was offered a flu jag while she was there.
