Has anyone got any information that's not just a wee fuzzy online map?
I've googled loads and am just confused.
I've not been in city centre in ages but will be going regularly from next week.
All i can really see is a map online covered in red ,which doesn't say much.

It looks like the whole of the city centre is a no go area for 3 weeks.

Personally i find it all a pain in the arse.

Yeah all three of those. Feels like everyone and their granny is going on strike.

ResilienceWanker · 25/10/2021 22:33

I can't work out if that strike of jannies/ cleaners is in solidarity with the GMB binmen being hospitalised by rat bites, or something totally separate re low paid council workers. In any case, it's all a bit of a nightmare (the leader of Glasgow Council brushing it off as only a few binmen having a little bit of rat contact...nothing to see here... is a new low).

But good to know that Greta has invited all striking workers to join her in a protest march through the city on the Friday. So that's nice Grin. There will be quite a party (as long as they can get there).

No i couldn't walk to work, the very thought makes me feel faint. I work in retail and stand 8 or 9 hours a day, that's enough for me.
Maybe I'm being silly but im not really worried about getting to work, i predict a last minute deal from the sg and the trains will be running as usual. Same as the bin men etc, they'll all get last minute deals so the place doesn't come to a standstill when the cop is on.

@ssd Yeah, I get it, I've worked in retail and care before and no way would I be wanting to walk more than 30 mins each way after those shifts!! In admin now, same pay but less physical.

Hopefully everything will run smoothly.

ssd · 26/10/2021 07:44

How easy was it to get into admin after being in retail @Alessandra87? I'll need to get something else soon, the standing all day is getting too hard for me.

Hi I'm heading up for work tomorrow - how's it looking in the city centre near the main COP site??? Allegedly there's a bus to get me from my hotel to where I need to be but I'm questioning their timings as it seems a bit optimistic to me!!

GenderAtheist · 29/10/2021 23:32

@FusionChefGeoff - do you mean the shuttle buses for COP?

FusionChefGeoff · 30/10/2021 22:12

@GenderAtheist no it's one organised by my company to get me to a venue near to but not actually part of the actual COP stuff but it will have to get from one side of SEC to the other looking at the map!

Drove over the Erskine Bridge this morning en route to DD's job at Braehead. Large police van stationed at either end of bridge.

They're obviously worried that the activists are planning to superglue themselves to the carriageway. Hmm

amazeandastonish · 31/10/2021 19:10

Lots of US Marshalls / secret service agents around Loch Lomond so either Obama or Biden must be staying at Cameron House

KingsleyShacklebolt · 31/10/2021 19:51

Is Cameron House open again? I thought it was still being refurbed after the fire.

amazeandastonish · 31/10/2021 20:18

Yes it opened a month or two ago. Rooms ridiculous prices and the restaurant is apparently crap. They are still building an extension though or as I prefer to call it - a bloody eye sore

KingsleyShacklebolt · 31/10/2021 20:19

It's a lovely hotel. Good choice Obama/Biden. Had a nice meal at the Boathouse, haven't eaten in the main hotel.

I also drove over at 8.30 this morning and seen one too, didn't even occur to me why they were there...! I'm dreading next week, it's going to be a nightmare. I'm coming from Dumbarton to Govan and the tailbacks caused just by the Clyde tunnel is a disaster already. Angry
Yellow85 · 31/10/2021 20:56

Biden is staying in Edinburgh - assuming the Scotsman/Waldorf. The bloody m8 will be shut to convoy him through, hopefully he doesn’t come through everyday! That’s some avoidable fuel usage right there.

Haudyourwheesht · 31/10/2021 20:57

I heard Biden was staying in Edinburgh. Too fancy for Glasgow. 😩
Apparently there are loads of police based in the maxim business park in eurocentral. I wonder if the location is strategic.

Haudyourwheesht · 31/10/2021 20:59

I wonder who's at Gleneagles then? Must be fairly big bigwigs.

Yellow85 · 31/10/2021 21:01

Although I did see Marine One was brought over and was sitting at Glasgow earlier in the week. Maybe he’ll use that between East/West instead. Haven’t seen or heard anything about the beast - but assumed it was in Rome with him. Not sure any of it is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the summit really 🙈

ChickenGotLegs · 31/10/2021 21:29

Just had to follow a police convoy/escort home so someone is definitely staying at Cameron house.
At least they drive at speed 😆

Hawkins001 · 31/10/2021 21:35

@ssd

The whole thing is a joke and all it'll do is bring more covid cases and we'll get shutdown again
Hardly, would you consider the possibility that if anything it's the general public as a whole in terms of numbers that will cause the cases to rise ?

Any other possible security threats too

So we have potus on UK soil ?
Haudyourwheesht · 31/10/2021 21:45

I'm sure that would have been in the news.

the "news" a source of half truths, spin, misdirection, etc,
Sturmundcalm · 01/11/2021 07:33

Cameron House was totally booked out for a COP26-related event from Friday till tomorrow - no idea who is there though.
