Who's doing lateral flows?

RaspberryCoulis · 01/06/2021 14:24

Saint Nicola just said we should all be doing 2 lateral flows a week. Hmm

I've never done one. Neither has DH. Kids did a couple each then said they didn't want to do any more.

(And why can't she say doSE? It's not doze.)

I say doze?
Anyway no I've not been as i think it's a massive waste of money.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 01/06/2021 14:41

I did one when they became widely available but haven't since. Quite apart from the fact I found it pretty unpleasant, I don't think it's helpful to be scanning people without symptoms for traces of the virus - there's plenty of literature suggesting asymptomatic people are much less likely to spread it than people who are actually ill, and all it's doing at this point is keeping numbers high and the central belt in some kind of purgatory. Perhaps if I was going on holiday or to a mass event I would, but otherwise, nah.

ashmts · 01/06/2021 14:47

I've been doing it for months through work, it's absolutely no skin off my nose and I like the peace of mind. Dose and doze sound the same to me? (Pharmacist so use both routinely!). Dunno, I don't agree with a lot of what she says but this seems an unnecessary thing to get annoyed about.

LouScot · 01/06/2021 14:52

I'm working from home and doing them as I want to get back to normal life as soon as possible and it seems the sensible thing to do. Not sure why you think she shouldn't be encouraging everyone to? Yeah, it's not the most pleasant thing to do but I'll happily do it if it means I'm less likely to spread the virus.

anothernewtop · 01/06/2021 14:55

(And why can't she say doSE? It's not doze.)

Same reason she can't say DeCember / she always says DeZember - gets right on my nips

emmathedilemma · 01/06/2021 15:15

I've got some and do them about once a week, now I'm going places indoors with more people it seems the responsible thing to do give it takes about 2 minutes and costs nothing!

OOAOML · 01/06/2021 15:18

We've done them a few times but I struggle with gag reflexes and not sure I've done them right.

TidyOmlette · 01/06/2021 15:22

I do but I’m frontline NHS and I’ve had DH do the odd one because he’s in retail and can work with vulnerable people at times.

It doesn’t take long and it’s great as possibly keeping the virus at bay.

Ladylunchalot · 01/06/2021 15:24

I still do them (NHS) and ds does too - he's at an asn school and is very anxious and paranoid about covid so it helps reassure him. I'm also happy to keep going with it as dh is immune compromised and although we've both had our 2 vaccines it's still not known how effective the vaccine is if you have a weakened immune system.

concernedlamaqueen · 01/06/2021 15:24

I do 2 a week. I think it's pretty poor not to do them especially as it really is no real hardship. Was a bit uncomfortable for the first few goes but it then becomes second nature.
For the sake of 30 seconds of discomfort it really is no biggy.

RedcurrantPuff · 01/06/2021 15:27

Nah. I’ve got a bundle but only done one once. I heard of someone last week who tested negative twice on LFT but positive on PCR so seems pretty useless.

Horehound · 01/06/2021 15:29

I am

ProseccoThyme · 01/06/2021 15:31

I've done them before taking the kids to see family - there is a local outbreak & I like the reassurance in case DC had asymptomatic infections.

The cyclic in me thinks Nicola is asking us all to do it in order to bring down the % of positive tests Grin

Mrsjayy · 01/06/2021 15:35

My DD gets hers from NHS Scotland inform. Sorry can't link from my phone she gets them posted to her
Or you can go to any.walk in test centre after 3pm and pick.them up. I've no interest in doing them so not ordered any yet, but DD said.they are easy to.do.

Mrsjayy · 01/06/2021 15:38

Oh and I also day doze Confused

42isthemeaning · 01/06/2021 15:40

I do them twice a week. As a teacher it's reassuring to think children are also doing them, however I suspect many no longer are. Sad

RedPillowcase · 01/06/2021 15:41

I've done 1 just for the funsies. Grin

And I say dose. I've noticed the doZe thing too!

Mrsjayy · 01/06/2021 15:44

Say not day🙄 I'm not really out and about.that much I might order some and see,DD does them for work as a precaution.

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 01/06/2021 15:49

I do them twice a week for work. It isn't nice, but since 4 people at work tested positive from them whilst asymptomatic and subsequently became symptomatic, I see the value.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/06/2021 15:54

Had my 2nd dose (pronounced doze) 2 hours ago 💉

ds(17) does his LFT twice a week for school. dh does 1-2 a week as he goes out to work. I am WFH and anything I do outside the home is outdoors so no need, if I do go somewhere indoors I will do one a couple of days after. If I was going inside other peoples homes/a workplace/public transport/appointments/pubs etc I would definitely do my bit and do tests.

Lidlfix · 01/06/2021 16:04

I do my 2 per week, DD4 (mostly when she remembers) does too. DH has a weekly PCR.

I gag and my eyes stream but have only had one dose and so has DH whilst our adult DDs have had none despite being in jobs where they are in contact with many customers. Unlikely to have had second before end of term.

I see the value for myself, my family and our circumstances.

It reassures me that my school has a fairly high uptake amoung the pupils and staff.

forfucksakenett · 01/06/2021 16:52

I am.

It's her accent. I'm sure you say many a strange and annoying thing (to some folk) as a result of your accent too OP.

florafoxtrot · 01/06/2021 16:58

We have done them before seeing DH family

I'm also a bit unsure as to whether we are doing them correctly but can't really get worked up about doing it.

Can't really get worked up about pronunciation either

PostieModern · 01/06/2021 18:19

I do two a week as does my DH. I travel widely for work, including into areas with low rates of Covid, and meet lots of people. I'd feel bad if I inadvertently infected someone. I don't particularly enjoy doing them but it's really no big deal

Groovee · 01/06/2021 18:45

I do them. Hubby became really ill in January (not Covid) so working in nursery decided to do the tests.

My Dd does them as her job is in a care home.

Ds decided to do them.

Dh's work due to being in lots of different houses have offered them.
