Moving to England

We are seriously contemplating moving to England due to the on going threat of Scotland gaining independence. We are not English, but both work in finance / economics and are well aware of the economic devastation that independence will wreak. We have worked hard for every penny we have earned but stand to lose the lot should we have a GBP mortgage to pay with devalued Scottish wages / overly inflated higher rate taxes. Has anyone else made active plans to move? My employer will be pulling out of Scotland should independence happen, but I would be allowed to work remotely here. It’s just the ongoing level of stress that I find hard to handle. If only I could be as naive to the damage as an SNP voter.

@Scottishskifun

Small scandi countries are also extremely expensive for even the basics like food......
All reflected in the salaries, and fantastic welfare system. Don't see loads of Nordic citizens flocking to escape their homelands!

My company closed its office here because of Brexit so in a sense I understand you. It's the end of my career, I'm devastated by losing my eu citizenship. But I think in the long run it would be better to rejoin as an independent Scotland. Look to Ireland.

It's not going to happen for a few years imo. But the neverendum is concentrating my mind nicely.

We have family in England and Wales. But also would be leaving family here. Anyway when I have doubts I remember how I felt in 2014. Personally I never want to be in that situation again.

Just to counteract this thread so far, I've got several friends and general acquaintances who've moved from England to Scotland for various reasons. Mainly because they don't like the direction England is now travelling in.

I expect it evens itself out.

People move all the time. It's not a competition, in my mind at least. Anyone who wants to come up and buy my house when / if I do move is more than welcome. Naturally!

I plant to move from Scotland to Eng this year. Nothing to do with politics. Just want to be closer to family.
Giving up my council flat to private rent. I know my outgoings will be higher with paying council tax plus water and rates. But I'll be happier. And I need a fresh start.

I would not want to live in an independent SNP Scotland either though.

It's not a matter of moving out for a "better life". Having been on the streets of Belfast in the 1970s and seen nationalism at work - we want no part of the hatred that it brings. We have already seen the seeds of it in Scotland.
Does anyone deny that?

There's a whole thread on the hatred and disgusting scenes a couple of weeks ago. These bigots have nothing to do with an independent Scotland. You know what has been happening, yes? In George Square? They're bigoted, ultra unionists. There's a whole thread on it. Indy marches are open to all and people of all creeds, religions and races join in and are made most welcome. Also, this is about moving to England. Scottish politics has managed to steer clear of looking to gain votes based on the blaming of people not born here. There are some who support the UK Government 's hostile environment, Windrush and dawn raid deportations but most do not.
