What is your local area?

We will be moving a short hop north of the border very soon so I am trying to get my head around the rules

The rules say to stay within your local authority area. That seems to be the whole of the Scottish Borders ? Is that right? I was expecting more council /parish area?

The Borders is a council area so I would think the whole area yes!

emmathedilemma · 16/03/2021 17:33

Yes it is, so Aberdeenshire and the Highlands are having a ball while the poor people in Clackmanshire are literally bouncing off the boundaries!

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/03/2021 17:34

Yes, council area- huge in some cases.

totalimpatience · 16/03/2021 17:36

Well that could be worse! Thanks all

My area is huge, but I live on the very edge of it.
Most people I know do go into the next one for shopping.
I've had a hard time recently, (anxiety and bordering on agoraphobia), and my GP pretty much told me to go and visit my Dd which means passing through another area, and being in the next, even though its only a 45 minute drive.
Its actually allowed too as needing mental health support.

midnightstar66 · 16/03/2021 18:03

You can go 5 miles outside your council area too for exercise etc.

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 18:06

Ours is Argyll and Bute... pretty big but not that exciting lol Grin

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 18:21

Who is still following that arbitrary rule? The council tax area rules continue to be a way of controlling only those that wish to obey. We are all still in lockdown across mainland Scotland, there is absolutely no need to have sub category control in the form of council boundaries. Anyone not seeing relatives who happen to live in another council area are missing out on precious time with loved ones. If you can now meet in gardens, why the hell does it matter how far they’ve travelled and from which council area? Ridiculous. Protect your mental health by using your common sense.

That's where I am too.
So many people go to Dumbarton for shopping, and I was in Glasgow, (Springburn), on Sunday.

Wbeezer · 16/03/2021 18:49

Yes, im one of the unfortunate Clackmannanshire inmates, so jealous of my neighbours in Perthshire but at least we've got the Ochils, my brothers in Glasgow city.

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 18:58

@IHaveBrilloHair I'm Helensburgh and have been out of Argyll and Bute for a couple of trips to Aldi and two illegal McDonald's haha.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 16/03/2021 19:08

East Dunbartonshire inmate here. So tempted by the bright lights of Helensburgh, hilbil! Counting the days...

Just go. Seriously. The rules are absolutely ridiculous. I live in East Dunbartonshire too, within 5 minutes I could be in West Dunbartonshire, Stirlingshire, Glasgow. The whole "stay local" thing is meaningless.
weegiemum · 16/03/2021 19:25

We're in Glasgow city, but dh has to cross Renfrewshire and Inverclyde to get to work in Argyll and Bute. From the highest level of COVID to the lowest (apart from islands). And he's a GP!

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 19:29

I have no intentions of sticking to it... I'm still contemplating going to England after 12th April Wink

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 16/03/2021 20:07

We're bad in Dundee City too, its tiny!! Also envious of Perth, they have so much space!!

BlueThursday · 16/03/2021 20:32

I’m EDC but it’s (IMO) safer to go click and collect in springburn rather than shop in person at the Morrison’s here

midgedude · 16/03/2021 20:35

Dundee is tiny, and built up so it must be hard to get to open spaces !

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/03/2021 20:39

Hilbil21
Helensburgh here too.
I really haven't been out until last weekend, but we all know everyone goes to Asda/Lidl/Aldi.
I don't judge at all.
Dd will likely be here for her vaccine at the weekend and I'll be driving her back to Springburn.
(Long story about her still being registered with GP here, but they know and are fine with it)

Cocacola12 · 16/03/2021 21:40

Yup I’m Aberdeenshire but very close to Aberdeen council area. Aberdeenshire is huge - Fraserburgh to Braemar is a 200 mile round trip.

Wbeezer · 16/03/2021 22:03

I must admit i go into Kinross, i have to run DS3 into school two days a week there and so i go to the shops there rather than venture into plague ridden Alloa.
I also had to go to Halford in Stirling o get a headlight bulb changed, that was exciting!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2021 23:29

You don't have all the Ochils - a bit is in Stirlingshire :o

Not really, tons of green space in Dundee. Depends how sick you are of parks though really!
FinnRussell · 17/03/2021 16:21

My understanding is you can travel 5 miles from your local authority border for exercise. No idea at all on the reasoning behind this...

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 17/03/2021 16:53

Yeah Dundee city does have quite a bit of green space actually, its just highly repetitive with a toddler!! Today was amazing weather so I was very happy there's a beach within our boundary!
