@Scottishskifun I don't think any of this will make much difference to most voters of the party

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 15:31

I know kitty. It’s tiring enough watching. Being part of it must be exhausting

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 15:31

I would give serious money to be a fly on the wall for a private conversation between NC and JB.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 15:31

I thought it was originally brought up when they were discussing the designing of the procedure that investigated accusations. But I was chatting to someone at the time so maybe I've conflated this with questions on the JR.

It was when she was being questioned around the decision to proceed regardless of legal advice.

I came to this with an open mind. I've heard nothing that makes me think she needs to go.

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 15:32

'Margaret Mitchell sharp as a tack though. refers to Alex Salmond as The First Minister'

That was so funny how Sturgeon snapped back 'I'm the First Minister'
It was a real Gotcha moment.
I'm sure Humza will pick it as a highlight

I may have heard this incorrectly but they were advised on Halloween that they shouldn't proceed.

On the 12th December though the legal team had looked again and said that they thought they could.

This was part of the balance surely. It was a weak case they said but it had a chance.

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 15:34

What's she saying? Salmond said she agreed to help her. Then later she withdrew that agreement

LexMitior · 03/03/2021 15:35

I've been watching this and was on the last threads.

What I notice is the investment, huge emotional investment that NS has from others heree. I think this is actually difficult for people to deal with, that she has made some very poor decisions, that these are unlawful, and the rammifications of that are very serious. As a person we can have sympathy but as a leader she gets all the brickbats and some more. That is politics for you.

There are two possibilities here, neither of which are enlightening

a) Nicola Sturgeon does not run her government competently
b) Nicola Sturgeon positively decided to introduce an unlawful policy, incompetently, defend it to the point of absurdity where it could not be represented in court without lawyers lying, and did not think of the wider context in which here actions would be considered.

Neither is good. a) says she's not up to it, b) is more sinister.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 15:35

I think we were talking about why she was banging on about minimum pricing and comparing the advice on that to this case.

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 15:35

Wasn’t it late night on Halloween as a matter of urgency. I think.

Brain mashed now with all the words

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 15:35

Imagine if they hadn't pursued a case against AS if they had even a midgie's baw hair's chance of winning.

It would have been the cover up of the century.

Well a good tactic if you can get away with it - getting under someone's skin like that. The SNP should be familiar...
Amortentia · 03/03/2021 15:36

I don't think this will have much of a negative impact on the election. It's being fought on Indeyref2. The SNP are a means to an end.

There have been very few scandals involving Scottish institutions since devolution and the elements that need fixed are quite limited within the devolution settlement.

Plus, the other parties have to tread carefully here. Westminster is hardly in a position to cast stones. I think the Tories could play quite badly. They're already using very paternalistic language that's frankly insulting and trying to circumnavigate the Scottish parliament.

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 15:37

The Edinburgh Airport allegations are not in the public domain.

Yes.

That was then superseded by a meeting on the 12th December where they looking at some thing (I zoned out due to poor mental capacity at this point) and found that if they interpreted it differently they did in fact have a case.

Unless I have completely made this up. Not impossible. I'm working as well as listening.

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 15:38

Ha ha ha!
So you've told us repeatedly (about your bleeding heart over your poor mentor) blah, blah yawn

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 15:38

Excellent post @Amortentia

Douglas Ross has maybe made himself look a wee bit hysterial and not a little bit hypocritical/like WM's lapdog here.

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 15:40

Patronising comment of the day. The poor public don't understand legal jargon but do understand marriage. Okay doke.

AlmightyBob · 03/03/2021 15:40

@kurtrussellsbeard same here. I'm not an SNP voter, or particularly a fan of any of the political parties in Scotland. I have to decide every election who I'm going to vote for based on whose bullshit is least egregious . But I think Sturgeon's doing alright today and I find the hot takes on this thread a bit odd, to the extent that I wonder if we're watching the same hearing.

sessell · 03/03/2021 15:40

@kittykat22

How long does it go on for? Surely there comes a point where it's in everyone's interests to halt and re group?? They must all be exhausted
I'm flagging. It's kind of going round in circles now. It is an ongoing litany of lies, diversions and obfuscation. Not impressive.
littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 15:40

Anybody else

He is her husband !

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 15:42

I had to pause it while some bugger wanted to talk about work and now I've no idea what you're all referring to in real time Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2021 15:44

JB has just basically asked why nobody has resigned if the failures were so bad.

I agree with her here. It's not about NS protecting herself but part of being a good leader is dealing with poor performance appropriately. These were huge failures and when you get to the levels of seniority of some of the people we are talking about and they get this sort of thing wrong then that needs addressing.

It would have been far better to take action immediately after the judicial review when it became clear that there had been failures to show they were being addressed. Leaving everyone in role, in some cases having been given promotions and pay rises, is probably helping to contribute to the level of suspicion around this.
