Anyone with S4-S6 going in next week?

DD is super excited. She is back in next week at some point for her Nat 5 Drama classes. She has to go to the office on Monday and pick up a batch of 9 lateral flow tests, I am assuming she will be told to use one of those before leaving for school on the days she is in. (Clicky link for me to give permission for her to actually use the test broken though...)

The only subjects having kids in next week are drama, music technology (but not music), PE, graphic design, technical. No art, no home economics, no sciences.

DD is most delighted that they won't have to wear their uniform.

I have no idea when mine will be back in. Dd is S6 but not doing any of the practical subjects. Ds is S3.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/02/2021 08:44

I have an older one too in S6 but not doing any of the subjects having kids in. It's going to be very weird for them, being in an all but empty school. And being told to socially distance all the time when they're in.

I've one in S4 who is in next week for two mornings to do one of her subjects.

Picked up a set of 7 tests yesterday. They've to do 2 a week - Wednesday and Friday.

dementedpixie · 20/02/2021 15:12

Ours have said Sunday and Wednesday I think

cocopops · 20/02/2021 16:11

Me! DD in for half day on Wednesday 👏👏👏👏 So glad for her......

KatySun · 20/02/2021 16:59

No, I have a DD in S6 who has an HE related subject. I was hoping she would be in. I am actually getting concerned now that she won’t be in before she has to leave school. It is great for those who have a chance to get in, but I am increasingly concerned about the whole thing, to be honest.

I'm not sure what other schools are doing, but it could be that your DD is just not in this coming week. Ours have only planned for one week just now. DD has two other practical subjects that were on the list, but next week only talks about one subject.

Don't worry that not being in next week means not in at all. If concerned drop the school a line on Monday and ask. Ours have been very helpful.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/02/2021 17:57

I completely agree, @KatySun. I am delighted for DD because she is the one out of my three kids who has been struggling enormously with missing the social side of school.

I also have a S6 and the way things are going he probably won't be back in at all. Ever. What an utterly shit way to end school.

My DS is in S5 and has been told he's to go in for computing which surprised me - of all the things they surely can do remotely? Will see if more info comes next week.

dementedpixie · 20/02/2021 18:22

My dd is doing AH computing and as far as I know isn't going in as it's a subject you can do from home.

DumplingsAndStew · 20/02/2021 18:31

This document might be helpful to some of you - it lists an example of some of the subjects that might need on-site time for practical reasons (obviously it depends what is still outstanding in the course)

Dd is in S5, going in for music & drama highers next week. She has collected her lateral flow tests. They have to wear uniform & be in all day. She’s quite looking forward to it I think

Belindabelle · 20/02/2021 20:57

DS going in on Monday morning for 3 hours.
Must wear uniform and vacate premises as soon as lessons are over. Voluntary LF tests available to collect from school only on a Friday. School is about an hours walk away so not sure how that will go.
No idea why he can’t collect them on Monday.

FlippingBottleFlippers · 21/02/2021 09:14

DD (S4) will be in for a day week after next to complete N5 music practical work. Not sure how this will work as she does voice as one of her instruments and as far as I know, that's still not permitted. I am resisting the urge to jump the gun and contact the school and will trust that they know what they are doing. She has to wear outdoor PE kit (school hoodie and trackies). I will take her in as I am more concerned about lack of social distancing etc on the school bus than in school. We picked up the lateral flow tests last week and will do the first one a couple of days before she goes in then twice a week. That is the extent of the return to school for our family as DSs are P4 and P6 so remote lessons continuing for them.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/02/2021 09:25

Ds is in S5 and isn't doing any practical subjects so isn't in. It is a shame they won't do anything practical at his school for their higher sciences, but understandable and they have been shown them via videos instead.

At his school pupils doing practical subjects will be in on a 2 week rota for the next month, a full day at a time with the school buses running. They have been told strict 2m distancing and masks at all times, including sitting on buses, in classes and corridors and also 2m outdoors during breaks.

Quick question for anyone who may know or have any thoughts on it.

My DC is in Wednesday and Thursday this week. Tests have to be done Sundays and Wednesdays. Should I be aiming to try and do the first one on Wednesday morning, in the chaos of the first day back, or do the first one this evening? None of the literature specifies a time of day to test and I had been thinking later in the day would work best for us.

dementedpixie · 21/02/2021 09:34

I'd do tonight probably and then do Wednesday night as well

WeAllHaveWings · 21/02/2021 09:35

Instructions from our school is to do in the morning to ensure the most up to date result before attending.

I guess it is because a test could be negative the night before, but positive in the morning.

DumplingsAndStew · 21/02/2021 09:38

Yeah that was my thoughts.

My DC has ASN, Wednesday morning will be very stressful as it is, we need to carefully time eating and medication as well as the usual getting ready routine. I know there are restrictions on being able to eat before taking the test as well.

DumplingsAndStew · 21/02/2021 09:40

DC doesn't see anyone, has left the house only 3 times since mid December, so I'm more concerned about her bringing it home from school than taking it into school if that makes sense.
WeAllHaveWings · 21/02/2021 09:46

The problem will also be maybe bringing it home, (hopefully) being asymptomatic and then taking it back in.

The ideal will be to do in the morning, probably as soon as they wake up before food etc, but if not possible as late at night as practical (again avoiding food/drink).

dancemom · 21/02/2021 09:56

Dd in for music, she is woodwind and has been told she is allowed to play although alone in a separate room.

They are to be in uniform, she's in one half day a fortnight Hmm

They collected the tests a few days ago, instructions to test twice a week on Sunday nights and Wednesday nights

RaspberryCoulis · 21/02/2021 10:16

It's weird, there seems to be no consistency on this at all. DD has several friends doing Music and they're not going in. The students doing Music Technology are going on, presumably because they need equipment they don't have at home.

OP posts:
Belindabelle · 21/02/2021 13:40

No consistency in the tests either.

Our school at pains to stress the LF tests are voluntary and only available for collection on a Friday. We were unable to go to school this Friday to collect. I didn’t get confirmation that DS had to attend until Thursday afternoon.

I can’t believe I am going to say this but it seems more trouble than it’s worth for a few hours a week. I now need to go and retrieve some uniform from the ironing pile and get DS to find and polish his shoes.

dancemom · 21/02/2021 19:39

Dd met her friend today, friend goes to a different school. Friend is due to go into school tomorrow for her practical time but wasn't even aware of the LF testing, get school hasn't told them about it or arranged anything about it.
