DS2 really struggled to settle, as he'd been at home with dad instead of mum, they wondered if he would bond better with a male key worker, they are apparently very thin on the ground but they were willing to see if one would be prepared to come over to them for a while. We then found out that they had a computer so asked if he could have his turn on it as soon as he arrived. This worked for him and by the time his short period finished, things were all happening and he was happy to go off and join in something else. Before long he settled in and was happy to go straight in to see his friends. I hope it all goes well for your wee one, I'm sure they'll find a strategy to work for him.

My head is completely wrecked with this quarantine business, especially after reading about the man and his daughter who were sent home after one night.
So.... what? Quarantine if you fly direct to Scotland from abroad (on a non-existent flight) but not if you transit via Heathrow? Or is Heathrow Bad but Dublin Good?
And is she going to be whingeing on about loopholes till it changes yet again?
Fucksake.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 12:00

@MaxNormal can he fly back via Ireland or is that a no go? It's just another example of bad planning. It's all about being seen to do the t if that thing rather than actually doing it

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 12:03

Got knows what happened with autocorrect there. Seen to be doing the right thing*

Lockdownbear · 16/02/2021 12:03

MaxNormal that sounds about right.
It's a other of those trying to suck Europe's backside but cut off England.

I don't get why the press and opposition aren't all over it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 12:05

Effectively the quarantine thing is so stop average and low income folk jetting off on a holiday in the sun. they really don't care about the folk they think will follow the rules/have enough money to comply/are limited in numbers.

It's just a way to put off the folk that can't afford the quarantine imo.

MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 12:06

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 I assume if Ireland is okay then so is England? It's just that this chap happened to transit from Dublin but would have been the same if it had been Heathrow? One can't be okay if the other isn't surely?

I honestly don't know, as things also seem to change so quickly and you just get your head round the rules and then it's all different again, and even that would be okay if it were UK-wide.

We've been promised a response by one of our MSPs so we'll see.

The exemption criteria are a total joke, really feel for oil workers and their families, it's just pointlessly cruel for all the good it's going to do.

MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 12:07

It's a other of those trying to suck Europe's backside but cut off England

But that can't even be legal surely?! Good god, this is a complete and utter farce.

And I agree it's a way to stop ordinary people daring to go anywhere. Unfortunately it's plenty of ordinary people who are also going to get shafted by it but I suppose that's a cheap price to pay for political point-scoring.

MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 12:09

I did find this which seems to suggest coming in via England is okay. Which makes the entire thing an exercise in utter pointlessness.

blowinahoolie · 16/02/2021 12:14

Thanks Sexnotgender👍

MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 12:18

Fingers crossed for everyone that it's good news on schools today!

Selkiesarereal · 16/02/2021 13:02

So from what I understand about the travel restrictions is that a flight coming directly from overseas into Scotland, the passengers need to isolate at a cost to them.

However, as in the case of the Turkish flight that came into Edinburgh yesterday in which 60 passengers rebooked onto a Manchester flight and were able to drive up to Scotland with no need to go into quarantine.
Cue flights getting re-routed to England and our Scottish airports suffer even more. The oil workers will definitely be doing this as who wants to spend your two weeks onshore in quarantine in a hotel.

Rae36 · 16/02/2021 13:04

Fingers crossed for everyone that it's good news on schools today!

Agreed. If it's not good news for the wee ones today then I might as well just give up on any hope for my s2 and s3. (I know that's very over-dramatic but this is our first post-half term school day and already I'm struggling)

AudacityOfHope · 16/02/2021 13:22

I am feeling very hopeful today. It's quite sunny and warm, and I made yummy tomato soup.

Lockdownbear · 16/02/2021 13:59

However, as in the case of the Turkish flight that came into Edinburgh yesterday in which 60 passengers rebooked onto a Manchester flight and were able to drive up to Scotland with no need to go into quarantine.

Is that the loophole they are trying to close? Have I got it wrong.
But then how do they deal with it with the likes of the guy flying via Dublin?

International travel needs to have one rule not multiple rules.

kurtrussellsbeard · 16/02/2021 14:11

Sounds perfect @AudacityOfHope ! Fingers crossed.

rookiemere · 16/02/2021 14:15

That's how I feel @Rae36 . DS is in S3 and I feel that a stepped approach starting with primary and exam years makes absolute sense. I'm resigned to DS not going back until after Easter holidays, so anything earlier than that is a total bonus, but anything later would be the final straw for me.

Although the online provision this term has been much better than first lockdown, DS is struggling to concentrate, but I feel if he's back for the summer term he'll hopefully catch up.

jabbathebutt · 16/02/2021 14:19

More people added to shielding in England. I wonder what will happen here in Scotland?

Also, have there been more cases and deaths today? the figure seems higher today? Admittedly I haven't been paying much attention.

DD in S2. Doubt she'll be back before easter.

Waverless · 16/02/2021 14:28

Is anyone willing to give a live update? I can't listen to her.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 14:28

She just dubbed us up until mid March 🙄 schools are going back it looks like but she's waffling just now

DollyMixtureLulus · 16/02/2021 14:29

Even with all the vaccination scheduling etc, it's incredible that within a year so many people have had it. Science is wonderful.

TheMShip · 16/02/2021 14:29

Nursery through P3 definitely back on Monday.
Vaccination (from BBC):

30,218 care home residents have been vaccinated (exceeding the initial target for residents in older adult care homes and 94% of residents in all care homes)
41,038 care home staff (91% of staff in older adult care homes and 79% of staff in all care homes)
283,622 frontline health and social care workers
270,654 people aged 80 or over (exceeding estimated population)
199,163 people aged 75-79 (exceeding estimated population)
245,231 people aged 70-74 (88%)
173,918 people aged 65-69 (58%)
