Prince Edward saves the Union

Apparently Prince Edward is moving to Scotland as part of a bid to save the union. I'm not 100% on what he'll do when he's here or why this would affect any of us ordinary plebs but I'm sure they have a plan. So if Prince Edward moves to Scotland will that be it for independence?

To be fair it could be nonsense. It was in The Daily Mail.

If it did happen I like to think that we could properly take him in as one of our own. It could be like a Hollywood film. We could charm him in stereotypical ways : fried Mars bars, irn bru, whisky... Next thing his new name is Princey McPrinceface and he's out campaigning with Nicola for Independence.

😂 I can see that, he could be a pet royal primed to attract foreign direct investment.

singsingbluesilver · 06/02/2021 18:25

It would make far more sense if it was Anne. She was born in Scotland. Her son played rugby for Scotland and she attends pretty much all Scotland rugby matches.

I don't know of any connection between Edward or Scotland.

dementedma · 06/02/2021 18:28

Fake news.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/02/2021 18:28

Not yet @singsingbluesilver give us a chance to groom him.

I met Sophie once and she's ok for a toffster.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/02/2021 18:36

She seems like she would be okay to be fair to her.

Anne or none. Edward, em, no thanks...

According to Wikipedia she was born at Clarence House - I don't think that's in Scotland Hmm

singsingbluesilver · 07/02/2021 08:36

sorry - my mistake - I was mixing her up with princess Margaret, who was born in Scotland.

Bytheloch · 07/02/2021 08:39

@LizzieMacQueen

Maybe he's behind one of the numerous recent posts about moving to Scotland? What ages are the kids?
🤣
Riapia · 07/02/2021 08:46

Send a royal named Edward to bring the Scots back into line?

What could possibly go wrong.
😁😁😁

BilboBercow · 07/02/2021 09:11

In Gordon Brown's defence she was a ghastly woman.

RaspberryCoulis · 08/02/2021 09:28

I met Edward, Sophie and their children when I was a Clydesider at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Edward is President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and was around all of the events and all of the venues over the 10 days of competition.

They were brilliant - the only reason I knew they were there was because I had an earpiece and radio and heard the security chat. They arrived without fanfare, casually dressed, couple of plain clothes security officers, sat in the crowd with the ordinary punters for half an hour to see what was going on, we spotted them but none of the people around them had a clue who they were. Then they came "backstage" to meet some of the volunteers, they were SO interested, and so friendly, and so warm and chatty and the children were so polite. Lovely people all round.

Unlike the Prime Minister of Malaysia who made a huge fuss, arrived with about 20 uniformed soldiers as his security, made sure everyone saw him coming in and had no interest in spending time with us minions.

Edward and Sophie are very underrated royals. However I think the story about them coming up here is "fake news". They'd be more likely to send Anne if anyone.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 08/02/2021 09:33

Also E & Sofe's DC are still school age and settled where they are I imagine. I don't think they'd want to uproot them for Gordonstoun.

RaspberryCoulis · 08/02/2021 09:35

Agree - their oldest is about the same age as my oldest, probably doing her A-levels (or not) in the summer.

Maybe what they mean for "sending Ed and Soph to Scotland" is that their DD is thinking of applying to a Scottish uni. Which let's face it isn't that unusual in Royal circles.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/02/2021 09:54

It's clearly nonsense. I'm surprised even the Fail published it. I just thought it was hilarious.

What next? I really wonder what the 'Save The Union' unit do all day and how much they get paid.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/02/2021 11:08

Gordon Brown next deffo. There was some really good vaccination propaganda adverts on Instagram that have now disappeared. You're lucky that UK GOV allocated you some vaccine kind of thing. I expect to see more like that.

OP posts:
StarryEyeSurprise · 08/02/2021 12:19

Yeah I got that too. Reported as fake news. Actually that'll be a lot of what the Save the Union unit do - targeted fake news ads on FB.

florafoxtrot · 08/02/2021 12:24

I was quite surprised that Lady Louise was as old as that, time flies. Only
checked as had if it might be a move for Gordonstoun too, I believe Anne’s two went there.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 08/02/2021 12:32

From the conversation I was party to with Sofe, she believes in a much gentler approach to schooling than the Gordonstoun model. Although it may be less spartan that it used to be famed for?

Has it mellowed?

Eye-watering fees, too (apropos of nothing).

florafoxtrot · 08/02/2021 13:18

I don't actually know much about it, we played netball against them when I was in about S3 and were amazed by their canteen and fancy sports kits. Stark contrast to our poloshirts which were so old the school badge had basically turned in on itself.

I did hear a story about a pupil being made to clean gravestones as a punishment though! Probably urban legend.

StarryEyeSurprise · 08/02/2021 13:50

Eek Flora! I always imagine these sort of places as having weird traditions. I wonder what the home learning expectations are there also!!
