Scotsnet does not represent Scotland

At a time when polls are showing unprecedented support for independence and even John Curtice agrees the polls are clear, why is Scotsnet such a bastion of unionist opinions? Is it just due to the demographic of Mumsnet? Why has this site become such a right wing enclave?

Well no the answers haven't been good enough. When asked if there would be a hard border we were told no there wouldn't be. It didn't take very many not very hard questions to establish that that was total nonsense!!

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 19:38

@Graffitiqueen there were good answers given backed by evidence and links. You are beginning to sound a bit like the republicans who just wouldn't accept they'd lost.

I don’t think I’m the stupid one here

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:40

Oh my god that is absolutely priceless!! We were just discussing yesterday the parallels between the trump supporters claiming the election was fixed and the yessers claiming indyref was!!😂😂😂😂 total lack of self awareness.

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 19:41

@WouldBeGood no one has called you stupid.
Nasty, vindictive, hateful, unreasonable, like a dog with a bone, those have been implied.

What his answere were there to the border question. Even you admitted it was most likely there would be one?!?! That's a hard no from me right there before you even move onto any of the other questions.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:42

What good answers.

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:43

Wouldbegood, the border questions would have to be discussed and agreed, during negotiations. How can you possibly expect anyone to know the full answers now? I suspect you're being disingenuous.

There were very detailed plans before the 2014 referendum, which I'm sure you can read if you wish. Again, there would have to have been negotiations, agreements, and so a lot was theoretical. But there were plans, intentions, and none of it was secret. (Not in any way like Brexit). Things have changed a lot since then - Brexit, for example! - so fresh plans need to be made. I have no doubt they will be just as available as they were before the 2014 referendum.

None of us have a crystal ball.

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 19:45

@Graffitiqueen some people said there may be a hard border and gave reasons. Some people said there might not be. But England wants a hard border, the end. It's not up to Scotland.
Funnily enough just because you don't like there being ambiguous situations doesn't mean that's a bad answer. There isn't a definite clear answer to this one. Life is unpredictable.

MorrisZapp · 26/01/2021 19:45

Will there be a hard border?

'well if there is it'll be England's fault'.

So we vote before a deal is struck? I'm getting deja vu...

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:48

Personally i would expect some sort of British isles common travel area would be negotiated but quite frankly, if WM decreed a hard border to spite us (and cut the nose off their face) then so be it. It's amazing what i could get used to if the returns were that i had a chance to get back in the EU, to have an independent Scotland, to get rid of trident, not to have to pay for the House of Lords and the other ridiculous excesses of the old Empire.

Selkiesarereal · 26/01/2021 19:48

The plans were just that, the Ruk may reject them, we just don’t know and that is the crux of the matter. They are our biggest trading partner but we are not theirs so we could have trade deals to negotiate similar to those which have arisen between the UK and Europe.

WouldBeGood · 26/01/2021 19:48

Charming

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 19:50

I see the independence posters have as usual just mainly given up because we really really cannot be bothered with Scotsnet due to a small group of nasty bullies.
It doesn't mean we are wrong or in the minority. Well done guys, you are losing @mumsnetHQ an amazing amount of advertising revenue as contrary to your opinions, many of us have really powerful and well paid professional employment. I stick around as there is a lot of useful stuff here throughout the site. But the attitudes on Scotsnet do not reflect Scotland.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:50

Do you think I'm going to be insulted by you saying I don't like ambiguous situations and be shamed into voting yes or something?!!!

You're damn fucking right I don't like ambiguous situations which is why I will not be voting for uncertainty.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:51

And you're the bully here Kamala. Accusing me of being vitriolic when all can see I was nothing of the sort.

WouldBeGood · 26/01/2021 19:52

@Nyx I’m not disingenuous. I’m looking for answers. If the answer is that no one knows then I’m out. Ditto with a hard border.

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:52

Selkies, where can i see England's trading figures? I can only find UK trading figures. Are there even figures for internal UK trade?

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:53

Let me get this right. I shouldn't argue against something that I think will make me financially worse off because mumsnet might lose revenue?!?!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

WouldBeGood · 26/01/2021 19:53

I think @kamalasshaman is not very up on the nuances of politics

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:53

So graffiti and wouldbegood, are we particularly certain at the moment then?

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:54

I mean, the status quo isn't really the status quo any more

WouldBeGood · 26/01/2021 19:54

In what way, @nyx?

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 19:54

No we're not nyx which is why only a fanatic would be suggesting adding more uncertainty to the shocks of brexit and covid.

Nyx · 26/01/2021 19:55

Well, economically. And socially. Who knows what the conservatives and their majority will do. Will we have to work until we are 79 next? What about workers rights, will they stay as they are?
