Could The PM just dissolve the Scottish Parliament?

In light of what Boris Johnson has said last night about devolution being a disaster, and concerns over the internal market bill there has been a lot of talk and suspicion that he intends a massive power grab from Holyrood or even to dissolve the Scottish Parliament.

This seems unthinkable to me as the people of Scotland voted for devolution by a huge majority. Do people believe this could actually happen?

Of course he isn't going to dissolve the Scottish Parliament. This is a ridiculous suggestion.

@AlizarinRed

I suspect that if Scotland decides to go it's own way there will be more of a sigh of relief from the south than and wailing and gnashing of teeth. I'm not sure what Scotland brings to the table now that the oil industry is in the doldrums. Probably the submarines would stay as NATO presumably pays to keep them there. Scotland will need every penny it can get. I'm sure they'd love to get rid of the SNP whingers in Westminster. I voted to leave last time but I've been so disappointed by the SNP gov that imv that's the last thing any country needs - they seem determined to make a nanny state which as a Scot, is the last thing i think we need, we want jobs and training, standing on our own feet, not desperate and needy with laws controlling speech, gender, school meals, parents responsibilities etc etc
Right, so in the general election after independence, don't vote SNP.

'Standing on our own feet'... hmm...

Exactly. The SNP aren't perfect but they're a means to an end. We can punish them later for their sins.

We in Scotland would be getting who we voted for, something which will happen while we're in the UK.

*never happen while we're in the UK

Agree with youcannotbe serious, this was more about the failures of SG on health, education crime and economy despite having highest taxes.
You would think with such a small country we’d be able to make a success only having 5.5 mill ( or thereabouts )people to worry about . It’s a worry - and no Westminster won’t shut SG down - certainly not after spending so much on that building 😂

Who would that be? Do you mind me asking who you'd vote for in an indy scotland?

If the PM dissolved the Scottish Parliament without primary legislation allowing him to it would be overturned by the courts via judicial review.

There will be new political parties in an independent Scotland. The SNP won't vanish overnight, but Labour, Tory, and LibDems are all UK parties who will need to reinvent themselves. Will ISP melt away once their primary purpose has been achieved? It will be an interesting time.
