Child with cold

My 9 year old has come down with a cold. Typical symptoms, stuffed nose, cough, sore throat, loss of smell.
Does she need a test before she's allowed to go to school?

Negative result, thank goodness.

How long from test to result for you? I was tested yesterday at 1350 and they did say 24-48 hours . I really cannot face another day at home and my HT is already pissed off. Results were back really quickly last week and appointments were easy to come by . Swear they think I am at itAngry

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 25/08/2020 16:00

Last week was before the spike in testing in the factory and school in/near Dundee.

Lidlfix · 25/08/2020 16:11

Yep and before the testing system went all glitchy. I have taken to (passive aggressive) cc'ing of my union rep into our emails but it makes me feel like a total tosser.

mylittleyumyum · 25/08/2020 16:18

48 hours and 30 minutes!

Are you sending you DC back with a cough (no judgment just interested)

IwishIwasyoda · 25/08/2020 16:52

No kids don't have to be off for coughs if the covid test is negative. Coughs can last for weeks. Letter we got said allow 48 hours after a high temp

Lidlfix · 25/08/2020 17:20

Were you starting to worry? I don't know if it's true or not (cause y'know social media) but I saw something that said text if negative but call if positive. Which would make sense with contact tracing . I was so confident it would be negative but now I am seriously overthinking Sad

mylittleyumyum · 25/08/2020 17:50

Her cough has gone, was present Saturday night into yesterday. She's pretty much back to normal. And I was starting to worry - not least because we have a weekend away booked!

The cough can last for weeks so even with a positive test once the period of self isolation is passed then people can go back to school/work with the remaining cough. Same with loss of taste/smell

elscar · 25/08/2020 18:12

Anyone else had results from tests taken yesterday? (Monday 24th Aug) we had 4 tests tAken at Glenrothes and still nothing yet Sad

Lorelaithe1st · 25/08/2020 18:35

We had results by 9am this morning for tests yesterday evening at Edinburgh airport, it was a pain to book the test but very fast results.

ALLIS0N · 25/08/2020 18:46

Are you all in the clear @Lorelaithe1st?

Lidlfix · 25/08/2020 18:47

I wish the result would just arrive. Elscar I am waiting for a test from yesterday too. There wasn't a soul in sight at the centre .

Lorelaithe1st · 25/08/2020 19:11

@ALLIS0N yes thanks!

Argh me too! That's so frustrating that other people have had theirs after ours! And Edinburgh wasn't available for us 😭

ALLIS0N · 25/08/2020 22:16

@Lorelaithe1st 👍🏻

Lidlfix · 26/08/2020 06:39

Still no word. Another awful sleep. Dreading emailing and inevitable snidey reply.

@Lidlfix we have received 2/4 tests back this morning at 6:30am

Just waiting on the other 2!

Hope yours come in soon..!

lookingforamindatwork · 26/08/2020 08:17

Waiting for DDs test results as she had a temperature and cough although also a runny nose which isn't meant to be a covid symptom. Now I have a runny nose, temperature and a cough.

If we can't stop the common cold, how can we stop Covid? Clearly masks aren't working as they should.

Lidlfix · 26/08/2020 09:15

Hope the first 2 brought good news and the next 2 do also Elscar.

In fairness, the kids are not using masks or socially distancing in the Classroom or while they socialise, at lunchtime, on the way to school etc.

tornadoalley · 26/08/2020 09:54

I would still keep the child home u TIL the symptoms end, because if you send her back and other kids get the cold, they will have to go through all the same rigamarole, isolate, test etc. Half the class with be inconvenienced

DumplingsAndStew · 26/08/2020 11:26

We have a test booked for this afternoon as DC1 is coughing. Hopefully negative result comes in quickly as she and DC2 are not at all happy to have more time off school.

elscar · 26/08/2020 13:33

@Lidlfix that's them all back now (results came in 3 batches between 6:30am and 12:30) all negative thank goodness (bit was expected)

Have you got yours back now?
