Yay at last for the little ones

It’s utter crap and will do further irreparable damage to the economy. Her overly cautious approach is cowardly and is to differentiate herself from what’s happening in England so she can position herself as the guardian of Scottish lives (tm). The way that she addresses us is so patronising “Nicola knows what’s good for you” attitude.

SkyscraperStreets · 18/06/2020 13:53

I also noticed that NS was very arrogant and aggressive in her answers to reasonable questions today. That will certainly please the sheep and deflect from her failures.

Alittlewornout · 18/06/2020 13:54

@Waxonfeckoff I work for the nhs and completely agree. I dont want to be outing but suffice to say I work in the community and am desperate to get back to a near normal service and quite frankly cant see why that cant happen. As a nurse none of this site comfortably with me, telephone consultations are a poor substitution for face to face contact.

Bartlet · 18/06/2020 13:56

@upstar. Your comment about being 3-4 weeks behind London makes no sense unless you’re arguing our lockdown was different to theirs.

We were less affected at start, locked down at the same time but now according to you are a month behind where they are. We should surely be in a way better position as we didn’t have as many cases at the start.

Unless..... lockdown wasn’t handled well in by the Scottish government esp in care homes so we didn’t get a handle as well during lockdown. . Is that the point you’re arguing?

SamSeabornforPresident · 18/06/2020 13:58

I've always voted SNP (and Green) and I'm gutted about this. I really wanted DD to be able to go to the swings. She's been really patient throughout this and it feels like everything is geared for older folk. Shielding people can play golf but still NOTHING for kids. I'm seriously pissed off.

Plus I know of many publicans who are prepared to open now (having jumped through all the arbitrary hoops) and nothing for them either. Scotland's economy depends heavily on the licence trade and a lot of pubs are going to be unable to trade at all if they don't get opened soon. The summer season is so important here. It's a long, hard winter.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/06/2020 14:00

DH is NHS too @Alittlewornout, he is in and out wards that are half empty and double staffed and in the meantime vital services are in no position to restart. that should have been in place weeks ago when we could see that we were over the peak and could have been up and running when cases got low and covid wards were closed etc.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/06/2020 14:03

Not that I live in one of the most lowest affected areas, but things could have been opened for them but can't be as the irresponsible folk will do a loch lomond in the hope of having a drink outside. Not only am I fucked off at the SNp, I'm also fucked off with my brainless countrymen.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/06/2020 14:07

@Noworrieshere

Cautious is fine by me.

Glad we can use other people's toilets.

But disappointed the extended family bubble thing only applies to single grandparents and not 2 grandparents living together. We would love to see grandparents normally. That would make the biggest difference to us

Honestly, what additional risk can you see with this?

Are both of the grandparents running about all over the place doing activities and shopping etc?

If not what difference is it going to make? Absolutely none.

SkyscraperStreets · 18/06/2020 14:10

The cynic in me thinks that NS may just be delaying the reopening of hospitality and retail so that the tidal wave of job losses that will occur can be blamed on Westminster not extending the furlough scheme ...

upstar · 18/06/2020 14:14

@Bartlet our curve was longer and flatter than London and that is why we are coming out at this pace.
@SamSeabornforPresident I'm so happy that children can get to the play park in 11 days time! That will give our council a chance to cut the grass when the maintenance crew are allowed to cut the foot long grass!!!
The comments about people in tourist areas are disgraceful. Most of our tourist industries are heavily staffed by people from Europe.
Despite all the comments on here recently support for independence is actually growing. This is the most unbiased polling I could find.

I think playgrounds will be opening after tomorrow's announcement
Tomorrowisanewday · 18/06/2020 14:15

SkyscraperStreets - I dont think that's cynical at all. It will be interesting to compare the percentage failure rates between Scotland and England by the time we get to the year end.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 18/06/2020 14:19

I’m so pissed off that my kids can’t even go to the park for another 11 days. They haven’t been anywhere other than for a walk in 93 days. Not seen any other kids. My eldest will never go back to nursery so won’t get to say goodbye to friends or teachers. Going to the park would be such a big deal to them but the government don’t give a shit about preschoolers do they?

Bartlet · 18/06/2020 14:20

@upstar. Exactly. Why is our curve longer? It should have been the same length if we took the same lockdown measures at the same time unless there was some other variable.

Did Scottish people comply less than English? Unlikely.
Were our doctors and nurses more incompetent at saving lives? Unlikely.
Did our hospitals and care homes not have adequate infection controls? Much more likely.

Stunning how people with lack of understanding of stats parrot these things verbatim without thinking about it.

MyLittleFishDontCry · 18/06/2020 14:21

@Timefor45

Sorry kids, no playgrounds yet, 29th June, as clearly another ten days makes a massive difference....but from tomorrow you can have people to stay overnight and play golf if you’ve been shielding. 🤔
Where does it say the shielded can have guests round??
upstar · 18/06/2020 14:26

@Bartlet our curve is longer and flatter because we locked down comparatively early compared to London who locked down comparatively later. They were at a higher stage in their cases.
This is why the r number is variable across the country as a whole.
It's not really anything to do with how it was managed in either country

rookiemere · 18/06/2020 14:26

I'm not sure what's meant in the extended household allowed indoors on the document and didn't see couldn't bear to watch the update. Is it just you can do the one person bubble thing like in England?

upstar · 18/06/2020 14:27

@Bartlet I have a good understanding of data thanks!

flamegame · 18/06/2020 14:42

So we are only allowed to travel more than 5 miles to meet family or friends - does this mean we can travel to family in England?

I can’t understand why I still can’t take my kids to a beach (about 20 miles) yet.

Clearyweary · 18/06/2020 14:43

Why the rush for playgrounds? I would prefer that my child could return to school first

KaronAVyrus · 18/06/2020 14:57

She’s dithering now. Complete joke but she’s thrown the peasants a few crumbs.
The hospitality industry is on its knees now.

InfiniteGerbils · 18/06/2020 15:04

The playgrounds thing is a welcome relief as basically as of ten days’ time I can take my kid to the swings without shitting it that we will come in for a barrage of anti English sentiment like we did a few days ago when we were busted GOD FORBID enjoying ourselves in a packed playpark in a major city.

Just so happened that my daughter’s London accent rang out as she was having a whale of a time on the see saw meaning a couple of passing dementors saw fit to comment that we weren’t “in England now”.

I know this is besides the point but it’s an illustration of how fucking mental I feel Scotland is at the moment and it’s breeding nothing but bad feeling.

And I say that as a (formerly) proud Scot who moved heaven and earth to move back here and wish to fucking god now I’d stayed put.

SkyscraperStreets · 18/06/2020 15:06

I noticed she is also 'considering' making face coverings compulsory in shops. That would be the high street done imo- no one will go shopping in a mask when they can get what they want delivered.

KaronAVyrus · 18/06/2020 15:07

I hate to say but I think Alex Salmond would have made a better job of it. (And I think he’s a smug twat)

InfiniteGerbils · 18/06/2020 15:11

@SkyscraperStreets that’s going to the the next phase - coverings now compulsory on public transport where previously advised only.

It’ll be the condition of the malls and other enclosed spaces being allowed to open again.

Absolutely fuck this shit.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/06/2020 15:33

The fact that virtually every child in my sort of "middle class" street is out playing together, teens are all meeting up in groups and when play parks re-open, it'll make a mockery of schools still being "blended learning" in 2 months time. I almost get the feeling that NS actually wants it to fuck up and the numbers rise so she can tell everyone to get back in their box and she will be queen once again..
