Can we go and meet up with our other household first thing or do we need to wait for Nicola Sturgeon to announce we are officially in Phase 1 at 12.30pm? Does anyone know?

I'm going to drive to my parents and I am irrationally worried about getting stopped by the police and turned back. I am such a follower of the rules, it's pathetic.

Starts Friday I thought.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 18:09

As far as I understand, any changes agreed tomorrow don't come into effect until Friday.

In the grand scheme of things, are a few hours difference going to increase any risk? Not really, I would just go and in the unlikely situation where you are stopped, you are testing your eyesightproviding care for a vulnerable family member.

Iggi999 · 27/05/2020 18:12

As a slightly connected question (travel to family) I'd love to know if Harthill service station is open... especially the toilets Blush

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 18:13

Sorry iggi, no idea, DH is out and about in the Ambulance and has traveled to Glasgow and Edinburgh frequently but he's never gone that far.

Iggi999 · 27/05/2020 18:19

Thanks Grin Maybe I should just ask if there are any woods between Ayrshire and Edinburgh Wink

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 18:36

standard kit to carry if it's more than a wee, is either something to dig a hole or something like a dog poo bag/sandwich type bag and something to support it, small bucket or Tupperware box and loo roll. There are bound to be woods or somewhere on the way :). You don't leave the bagged poo behind, you either find an appropriate bin or seal the bag and seal it inside the Tupperware etc. Remember toilet roll and had sanitiser and a bottle of water.

Iggi999 · 27/05/2020 18:37

Oh lord I hadn't even thought of what happened if I needed a poo! I'm probably not that desperate to visit! GrinBlush

ssd · 27/05/2020 18:42

I have an app on my phone that shows where the nearest public toilets are Blush

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 18:44

ssd, does that apply at the moment? as in will it give you ones that are open or just nearest regardless of status?

Noworrieshere · 27/05/2020 19:56

I was planning to stop for a pee in the woods before I get to their village then do the same on the way home. I know it's stupid to drive so far for just an hour but I really want to see them. An hour will do. They have a large garden but I don't think I could bring myself to pee in their garden. I haven't done that in 40-odd years.
What phase is "Use someone else's toilet" in?

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 20:01

You could use their toilet safely imo depending on how far it is into the house? Take bleach etc and clean behind you and tell them not to use for a while after you leave.

But in your place I think i'd go for the woods as well, look at satellite pics of your journey (on google maps) and find something with cover and somewhere safe to stop the car.

SamSeabornforPresident · 27/05/2020 20:02

I think I'd just nip in, use the toilet, then give it a clean after, rather than peeing in the woods. Grin

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 20:03

You're not supposed to travel more than about 5 miles. You can go and see one other household outdoors while social distancing. And as far as I can tell it's Friday it all starts. Sorry.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 20:05

I'm desperate to see my family, too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 20:11

You are allowed to go further than 5 miles to visit family. the 5 miles is intended to stop people congregating in popular beauty spots/beaches etc. when exercising outdoors.

No-one gives a toss if you are visiting your parents garden 100 miles away as long as you social distance.

Swinney has already said he will travel from his home (Perth?) to visit family in Edinburgh.

SidSparrow · 27/05/2020 20:22

What's going on here?

I really don't get it. Can't you just take a piss in their house like a normal person?

I think the real virus is the paranoia. I really wish I'd done psychiatry because everyone has gone full crazy! I'd make a million!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/05/2020 20:29

Well technically you are not allowed to be inside another home at the moment. Using common sense, we have no idea of any potential vulnerabilities that the OPs family might have, not enough to be shielding but maybe enough to be extra careful.

I caught it at work, most likely from using a toilet cubical immediately after someone with covid had used it. Toilets are high risk spaces due to the spray in the air after its been flushed.

pinktaxi · 27/05/2020 20:37

I was going to visit family tomorrow for a joint bike ride, with social distancing, but DH says he's coming down with a sore throat!

Iggi999 · 27/05/2020 20:45

It's normal to care about not bringing sickness to elderly people, isn't it?

SidSparrow · 27/05/2020 21:26

It's normal to care about not bringing sickness to elderly people, isn't it?

Frankly, it's up to them. If they don't want the risk then they should lay down the rules that suits them.

Merename · 27/05/2020 21:36

Where are folk getting the info about travelling 5miles/not 5 miles?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 21:44

Someone told me 5 miles on the Calmac facebook page when I asked about visiting family. They said travelling distances was still not really allowed. But Waxon seems to think it applies to exercise, not visiting, and looking at the guidelines I suppose it might mean 5 miles for exercise?

'Seeing family and friends: We are planning in this phase to change regulations to permit people to use public outdoor spaces for recreational purposes, for example to sit in a public space. We are also planning for one household to meet up with another household outdoors, in small numbers, including in gardens, but with physical distancing required.

Getting around: Consistent with the reopening of workplaces set out in this phase, where home working is not possible businesses and organisations are encouraged to manage travel demand through staggered start times and flexible working patterns.

You will also be permitted to travel short distances for outdoor leisure and exercise but advice to stay within a short distance of your local community and travel by walk, wheel and cycle where possible. '

It doesn't really say. I do wish things were clearer.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 21:45

Maybe it'll be made clearer tomorrow?

I think the R number has to be at a certain level for this 'relaxing' to go ahead, anyway.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 21:47

I think Phase 3 looks like when travelling long distances will be given the go ahead:

'Getting around: In this phase you can drive beyond your local area for leisure and exercise purposes. Public transport will be operating full services but capacity will still be significantly limited to allow for physical distancing. Travel at peak times will be discouraged as far as possible. There may be geographical differences in arrangements depending on local circumstances.'

Iggi999 · 27/05/2020 21:53

Relatives and exercise are not the same rules. Swinney definitely said he was travelling Dundee to Edinburgh, so unless he's doing a Dominic I that's pretty clear.
But it has to be outside, hence no toilet trip inside their home.
