Can we go and meet up with our other household first thing or do we need to wait for Nicola Sturgeon to announce we are officially in Phase 1 at 12.30pm? Does anyone know?

I'm going to drive to my parents and I am irrationally worried about getting stopped by the police and turned back. I am such a follower of the rules, it's pathetic.

I thought it was Friday before lockdown was lifted.Tomorrow I'm going to spend the day in my garden topping up my tan.
Plan to meet up with a friend on Saturday.

Hmmmm. Well, this is potentially exciting. Not sure I can do the length of the country without a pee stop, though ... shewee?! A funnel?

Ten hours of driving for an hour in the garden ... I might just wait, anyway.

nuttymomma · 27/05/2020 22:09

I've seen my parents in their garden and in mine, but 2 metres apart. We do not go into their houses unless we need a pee and again stay apart so eg parents will stay outside in the garden while I nip into theirs for a pee, and vice versa.

I have not hugged them, I have not kissed them, I have not had sunday lunch with them as I normally would - we simply sit on garden chairs at opposite ends of the garden and it is shit.

We only go in for a pee but we do normally have our pee before we visit - they are only 5 mins drive away so very rarely do we need a pee!

I think some government minister said today it will still be quite some time before we can actually hug.

Just go to the toilet in their home. As long as people are hand-washing and taking normal precautions to stop the spread of diseases as they should anyway you'll be fine. The world has gone absolutely bonkers when people are considering using the woods as a toilet instead of going in a bathroom.

Yes, they said today that tomorrow they will confirm what restrictions will be lifted/the new rules and that they would be effective Friday.

Swinney and i'm sure Sturgeon both clarified that basically they don't want folk running all over the country heading to the beaches/loch lomond etc and causing crowd situations but that visiting people was separate to that. So, If I had relatives an hour or so away then that would be fine, but it's not ok for me to drive an hour or so for leisure activity, I should stay relatively local for that. Not causing a crowd in my brothers garden but potentially causing a crowd if I pop to Portobello beach - even if that is on my way.

If you just think that you've to avoid crowds, limit interactions to one household at a time and physically distance outdoors and in general stay at home/in your local area you'll not really go wrong. Keep washing your hands and limit visits to shops etc to those that are necessary.

I've stuck to the guidelines so far so I'm not going to change just yet. I've people all around me clearly bringing family into their gardens for weeks. That's up to them, but I don't have to follow.

Yes, that is the main problem with a long journey. There aren't really the facilities on the drive to make longer travels appropriate. This is where a lot of the issues in England have arisen. They were told they could go wherever they wanted and they did and forgot that driving 3 hours to X seaside resort, spending time at the beach with your picnic and then a 3 hour drive back might result in people needing the loo, then they find that all the normal facilities are shut and people start shitting on the beach or in peoples gardens etc.

And yes, I know there shouldn't be an issue with using another's toilet etc and we all need to risk manage ourselves, but a toilet is one of the higher risk areas for catching it so that has to be considered. We all believe we've had it so I wouldn't necessarily be that bothered with people using my loo and none of us are high risk anyway. However DH is still out every day dealing with covid or potentially covid patients so that doesn't really mean he couldn't be tracking it into the house every day and that others might not catch it even if he is himself (and our household) potentially immune

Us too iggi our only problem really is DSs girlfriend who he hasn't seen in person since March, they've both been great and not moaned or broken the rules but we can see neighbours DC younger than him, having GFs over to stay etc and these are in houses apparently shielding with health issues Hmm. It just really annoys me and I know it's not my business what others choose to do, but it kinda feels like it is and that it's a slap in the face to DC sticking to the rules. I did my weekly top up shop tonight (one main shop and top up milk and bread and fruit and veg during the week at local shop) and passed a group of about 8 teens all together obviously been out for a jolly together and it makes me angry that they do what they like while DC that stick to the rules are missing out.

None of the levels of the route map mean that DS can even hold her hand at any point in the foreseeable.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 22:40

Yep, Iggi, me too. I have been really strict about sticking to the rules, almost superstitious about it.

I mean, as far as I can tell I've had the virus (it was horrible), I'm not too worried about getting it again myself, but I've a horror of spreading the fucking thing. And I know some older people are totally terrified.

Up to other people if they choose to be cavalier about risking other people's lives, I suppose. I wouldn't want that on my conscience and want to know I've done all I could to prevent spreading it.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/05/2020 22:41

people start shitting on the beach or in peoples gardens

Sad Grim.
