I too don't get why there's not more outrage about this "blended learning" pish.

KaronAVyrus · 28/05/2020 14:49

Because if you’re not 100% supportive of sturgeon you are guilty of doing Scotland down. So you learn to keep very quiet on social media.

trumpisaflump · 28/05/2020 15:05

@Mascotte I couldn't agree more. I've written to my MSP but not expecting any great answers. The chat is children will be in school Mon, Tue, school is closed and cleaned on a Wednesday then the second group of children go in on the Thu and Fri. I work full time. I'm stressed beyond belief.

fascinated · 28/05/2020 15:19

How do you get the video daily briefing ? The ones on iPlayer App are not up to date, most recent Scottish one is two days ago, nothing on Scot gov website other than the text of the speech And clicking the link to the live briefing on the bbc website just gives you a blue screen... I am a bit lost! Could read the text but I‘d rather listen while I unload the dishwasher!

Mascotte · 28/05/2020 16:54

So it seems that blended learning means two days a week? This is crazy. I'm going to write to my MSP now.

highmarkingsnowbile · 28/05/2020 16:56

I don't, either. It's total BS.

spottedelk · 28/05/2020 19:02

That's barking. It doesn't take a whole day to clean a school! Other countries aren't losing a day of education like this! It's the unions playing hardball, presumably. And the Scottish government backing down. They really don't seem to care much about educating their children. Which makes me feel very pessimistic about the future of the country.

Mascotte · 28/05/2020 19:10

Their record on education has been abysmal anyway, but this is a new low.

highmarkingsnowbile · 28/05/2020 19:27

It will destroy this country, which has lost its tourism industry and oil prices have crashed. Where do they think the money to pay for all this bollocks is going to come from? Westminster? Haahaaha.

Pootle40 · 28/05/2020 22:54

I wish more people would take a stand on blended learning. It's not blended learning it's a couple of days learning and then dumping children back at home with parents who work full time. WTAF.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 28/05/2020 23:10

@Pootle40 I want to but don’t know how? I feel no matter what I wouldn’t be listened to. That’s how I feel at work at the minute in nhs, lots of issues no one is listening cause you know....covid 🙄

spottedelk · 29/05/2020 13:59

From August the Scottish government could just get a handful of the best teachers to design and present programmes for all age groups. They could cover 2 or 3 days a week, with the schools handling the rest within school. The lessons could be put on TV, which would avoid a lot of the problems of online learning. Set up a new TV channel if necessary. They are doing this in Brazil at the moment, because so many children don't have Wifi access or a computer.

spottedelk · 29/05/2020 14:00

For the small number who can't afford a TV licence, make grants available.

spottedelk · 29/05/2020 14:00

And FGS don't cancel public exams.

Mascotte · 29/05/2020 16:02

I see East Renfrewshire is at least getting P7s and next year's p1s in. Hope others follow.

trumpisaflump · 29/05/2020 16:06

I heard that too @Mascotte Good news

SockYarn · 29/05/2020 16:47

I'm not holding out any hope for East Dunbartonshire. Email recently received from the Council Education officer through the school says :

"Due to the continuing risks from Covid-19, education will be delivered through a blended
model of in-school and home learning when schools reopen in August."

WILL BE. Not may be delivered, WILL BE.

So basically parents, shut up, get on with it and accept what crumbs of education we are prepared to grace your children with. And those of you have to go out to work? Sort yourselves out.

trumpisaflump · 29/05/2020 17:58

@SockYarn FFS! The only thing that's stopping me being totally furious with the situation is that I presume all schools across the UK and I imagine the rest of the world must be doing similar. Surely English schools don't plan in having classes of 30 plus kids in at a time?

spottedelk · 29/05/2020 22:41

Germany are doing half classes with children having 2 days in, and then 3 days in the next week. No ridiculous losing a whole day every week for cleaning.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 29/05/2020 22:59

The whole thing is fucked up. 2.5 months in the future and they can't even do better than a bit of school time. They should be thinking about how to get back to normal, who is going to look after children when parents can't work.
Asking thousands companies to show flexibility around part time school is crazy! By that time companies want to be back on track.

NS is being a dick for avoiding any proper questions/ answers on it.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 29/05/2020 23:00

*when pare have to work as there will be no childcare options.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 29/05/2020 23:00

*parents

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 30/05/2020 07:45

@IckleWicklePumperNickle exactly. Employers have been more than fair during this and will want to get back to normal trading as soon as they can. I think if employees start coming back saying oh I can only do these days and they will be changing every week! They will be replaced

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 30/05/2020 07:47

@trumpisaflump on another thread a poster from a Dutch country said that the schools in her local areas started out part time when they went back and now are moving to full time again from next week. No dramatic rise in cases
