If someone said "she's a belter" in Scotland what does that mean? Internet is divided between it meaning something good, and something bad (for context, I am guessing that it's bad). Ta for your help.

Apparently (according to Google) it's an insult in Dundee. No idea where the person who said it originates from.

Um, it was a night out, and after a brief conversation with someone (male, who I may have unintentionally - and genuinely unintentionally - annoyed) they sat at a table behind me and said "she's a belter, she's a belter, she's a belter" in a sing song voice, very loudly.. I am scottish myself, but it's not a word used where I come from, so I don't understand the meaning, though I am guessing it was an insult, sadly.

He sounds like an asshole. My dad would use it if talking about a car he really liked but I wouldn’t give that fanny another thought

In that context it sounds like sarcasm. I’ve never encountered the word in a negative use, but anyone can use a word which is normally a compliment and use it sarcastically. He sounds like a thoroughly lovely man, I bet the ladies are just queuing up.

It is a great song and a compliment in Central Scotland. There is a poster on Scotsnet who has Shesabelter as her username and I always break into song
