Can anyone tell me where I should be looking and what parts to steer clear off?

It's not my first choice I'll be honest but I'm finding nothing in my chosen area and seeing loads of houses for sale... Some quite nice, I just don't know the area.

I come from the other side of the water, I'll say west end for talking sake so I know very little about over that way! Budget is pretty tight too hence why I'm looking over there.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Just a wee update..

I'm still looking far and wide however Ive started to look again at houses i previously dismissed as I've came to realise I can't really be as picky as I was lol

Anyway I'm going to view a couple in Clydebank next Monday. Both in the same street, done a drive by today and it didn't look too bad, however I've came to realise how bad some estate agents are at their jobs when trying to deal with them!

I shall keep you posted... Thanks all so much for the replies! :D

We were I. Your position 5 years ago and until we saw the house we’re in thought we could only afford Paisley or East Kilbride neither of which reallyappealed. Then we spotted ours I. Neilston and have never looked back. You could easily get a family home with garden for your budget, it’s 30 mins by train into Central and the schools are good. Good luck with your search!

FloorLamp · 06/08/2018 19:28

I should probably have said I don't have any kids so schools are not a priority in my search, I also drive so public transport is also not that important.

And to the person that sent me the pm... Not ignoring you! I can't access them on the app but I will get on later and reply! ;)

FloorLamp · 07/08/2018 22:54

Yes sorry it was you! I have trouble logging in via browser on my phone, always reverts back to the app.

Actually ended up in Paisley today with work, just the town centre so never got a chance to check anywhere out!

Still looking... Probably forever lol

Only the bit around the grammar school is nice ime.

What about crookston?

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 11/08/2018 08:53

Sevendown do you mean Paisley Grammar? Paisley Grammar is in a fairly run down area- Seedhill.

Op Paisley is Massive, it has some beautiful areas. There are people who live in Paisley in beautiful homes in beautiful estates, with beautiful walks around them. The town centre, and up the grammar way isn't representative of what Paisley offers.

Uglybear · 11/08/2018 21:24

Sevendown the grammars in a shit area, apart from greenlaw avenue across the road, lots of other nice areas Confused.

Hello
We are looking to move to Paisley area due to my husband's work but don't know much about the areas. We have 3 kids so good schools are important to us and it's probably our priority over the size of the house. Would appreciate info on glennifer high and living in the surrounding area. Thought about Ralston but Paisley grammar looks a bit run down, don't want to judge a book by its cover though so any info appreciated. Otherwise looking at bridge of weir or Houston. What about Renfrew area and schools? Sorry for all the questions it's a big move for us. Thanks

TheEndofIt · 25/02/2019 18:33

Don't know some of the answers, but I would say schools are better in Houston than Bridge of Weir.

East Renfrewshire is pretty close by with excellent schools - so that's Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Busby, Clarkston.

Do you have a rough budget?

Pickles19 · 25/02/2019 21:03

Thanks for your reply. I gathered Newton Mearns was one of the better areas ( more expensive than other areas) and i do like it. We have a decent budget so not too restricted that way. It's more about making sure the kids are alright hence keen to get recommendations on highschools and family friendly areas.

TheEndofIt · 25/02/2019 22:33

If you're not restricted by budget, go for East Ren - all the high schools are excellent & the areas are suburban/family friendly.

Or go for Houston if you'd like a more villagey feel.

prettybird · 25/02/2019 22:45

I know someone whose kids are at Paisley Grammar and she says it is underrated. Iirc, the oldest is off to Uni, middle one currently sitting Highers (or Nat 5s? - I lose track of the years Blush).

Shawlands Academy on the Southside of Glasgow also gets good results (and successful Uni students), with some really nice areas in its catchment.

Ds went there and is doing well in his 1st year at Aberdeen Uni (although technically, he was a placing request as the part of Pollokshields we're in is not in the catchment).

Pickles19 · 26/02/2019 07:39

Thank you both, really appreciate the replies! East Ren does seem nice. Will let Dh see the posts and take it from there

prettybird · 26/02/2019 08:03

Should have mentioned the areas to look at in in Shawlands Academy's catchment: (most of) Pollokshields (iirc, to the South of Nithsdale Road), Newlands, Strathbungo, "High" Shawlands.

EmmaC78 · 28/02/2019 22:16

I work in Paisley and to be blunt I would not want to live there. As others have mentioned East Renfrewshire is nice and so are villages like Houston.

I have a few friends who have moved to the new estates in Renfrew and they really like it although I personally wouldn't want to live there.

Pickles19 · 01/03/2019 07:44

Thanks for taking the time to post, it's really good to hear all different opinions. Much appreciated :)

Oorwulliesbucket · 01/03/2019 07:51

I live in Paisley and really love it. Have lived in a few different areas and lived them all. Opinions are funny, I grew up in neilston and wouldn't live in it if you paid me. Opinions are funny, different people like different things I suppose.

Fantababy · 09/03/2019 14:32

Ralston's lovely but, as a PP said probably out of your price range and the (secondary) schools aren't great. Mosspark (other side of Cardonald from Paisley) has some good value housing (including 2 bedrooms) right opposite Bellahouston park.

Fantababy · 09/03/2019 14:35

Oops - response was to OP - thread's moved on somewhat since then! Blush

Hairynick · 09/03/2019 21:14

It's a long runner for sure Fanta Grin

twattymctwatterson · 09/03/2019 21:41

Coatbridge? Grin it's honestly not bad nowadays, lots of amenities and you'll get loads of house for your money. Easy access to the M74 and M8

Deep90 · 15/05/2019 00:03

Schools in paisley!
We are thinking to move from paisley ( bear Ferguslie 🙈) to Barshaw park. Just waiting on our offer to be accepted. It’s next to barshaw park and houses are beautiful there however it’s still paisley.
What schools are best around that area? My eldest is non verbal and autistic and won’t start school for another year and a half. We plan to stay here for 5 years or so and then move to Newton Mearns or bearsden for better schooling for him.

Terrysyogurt · 16/05/2019 22:17

You'll be near Ralston primary and Paisley grammar for high school.

Deep90 · 16/05/2019 22:59

We will move when they start high school, the closest primary to us is Gallowhill Primary School. I have No ideas what that place is like.
