Can anyone tell me where I should be looking and what parts to steer clear off?

It's not my first choice I'll be honest but I'm finding nothing in my chosen area and seeing loads of houses for sale... Some quite nice, I just don't know the area.

I come from the other side of the water, I'll say west end for talking sake so I know very little about over that way! Budget is pretty tight too hence why I'm looking over there.

Any advice would be appreciated!

What about the new Keepmoat development towards the airport? If you used help to buy you could get a house for that type of money

FloorLamp · 02/08/2018 23:14

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I have been looking in Clydebank and surrounding areas but not much appealing to me right now. Don't fancy Maryhill im afraid and I dont really fancy a newish build house. Work over cardonald way among other areas, wouldn't mind there but too much money! I'm in Knightswood area at the moment and don't want to stay here. I've seen so many nice houses in the areas I want that I would jump at that have already sold so I like to think something will pop up in my price range.

Guess I need to just keep looking, I'm too fussy! It's so frustrating lol

Curious as to why you want to move out of Knightswood, I'm considering moving there.
I'm not buying, HA renting but I really want this to be my last move ever.

Uglybear · 03/08/2018 14:18

When I was looking houses in cardonald were much better value than good areas of Paisley, So would be suspicious of area if your getting if its the same size house for cheaper in Paisley.

MoreProsecco · 03/08/2018 17:20

OP, would you consider a lower conversion or cottage flat?

Printers Land, Clarkston, Glasgow

Flat 9, 180, Camphill Avenue, Shawlands, Glasgow, G41 3DT
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-51791553.html

These are both in good areas, but no garden.

Or: 28 Summerlea Road, Glasgow, G46 8PD

Invergarry Quadrant, Deaconsbank, Glasgow, G46 8UG

Birch Crescent, Busby, GLASGOW
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-55558518.html

The last one might be above budget but has 3 bedrooms.

Lots of similar properties in Barrhead, Neilston, Deaconsbank.

I think you'll struggle to get a house with a garden within budget.

What would you be prepared to compromise on?

Redglitter · 03/08/2018 17:26

There's a 2 bed terrace house in Houston on at £110k.

Brilliant schools in Houston if you have children

FloorLamp · 04/08/2018 01:49

Sorry not quite sure how to tag individual people as yet...

Knightswood is actually a great place to live, been here all my life. My family moved here in the 40s! (Next door to my house now actually!) Good area for families, school, good transport links and decent local shops. It's just time for me to move on somewhere and start again so don't be put off by me wanting to leave! I live in a 4 in a block cottage type flat, shared garden. Grown to hate having to share, just want my own space!

FloorLamp · 04/08/2018 01:52

Thanks for the links but I couldn't do another flat!

Will have a look for the one in Houston...Thanks!

Floorlamp, it's exactly what I'm looking for, I worried for a minute there was some evil thing I'd missed!

FloorLamp · 04/08/2018 10:24

Haha no you'll be fine! :D

What area are you in just now?

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 04/08/2018 10:35

Helensburgh.
I want to be in Glasgow nearer to QEUH for my healthcare plus Dd goes to school in Glasgow and hopefully Uni there next year.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 04/08/2018 10:36

I would avoid Linwood, there are good areas of Paisley but they are often areas with large family houses.
As previous posters have suggested have a look at Erskine/ Renfrew/ Inchinnan area. I live close to paisley but never ever go there which probably tells you something.

Paisleythroughandthrough · 04/08/2018 22:14

Hi @FloorLamp I've name changed for this one Grin

Paisley has some great areas. And some bad areas. If you can get somewhere with a good straight road to town centre you're winning really. This house is in a great area, it's on the edge of a large area of houses nicknamed "spam valley".. houses so expensive to build the families lived on spam apparently (it's been nick named that since my my dad remembers back in the 60s Grin. it's school catchment would be Brediland Primary or St Paul's Primary, Gleniffer or St Andrews High. All good schools. Glennifer and St Andrews have had a lot of money put into them and are doing extremely well academically and with sports.

Bridge of weir, Houston etc are lovely areas. But the high school is having some issues recently. Usually a sign a school is going to get good to be fair, when it starts getting into the news for drugs and bullying they try their best to turn it around.

£130 is on the lower end for a house. House prices in Paisley are going up.

There is a cracking house for sale for £130,000 but it's just off lower Neilston Road which isn't great with a lot of undesirables hanging around.

This house is in the Dykebar area, lovely estate with a mix of smaller semidetached like this or detached four bedrooms etc. Silverburn shopping centre is close, and The Abbey Inn is quite good for a local!

Mamaryllis · 05/08/2018 00:34

I used to live in Glenburn. Grin I think they’ve knocked most of it down since we left...

Paisleythroughandthrough · 05/08/2018 01:24

Just the bits round Skye crescent shops, and up near Glenfield Road bit @Mamaryllis. There's beautiful homes been built over on Glenfield Road way now Smile

Mamaryllis · 05/08/2018 18:07

Grin What’s the primary school with the green uniform? My oldest two went there - it was great. Super supportive. I was wracking my brains yesterday and all the school photos are hiding the logo on the jumper!!!

Mamaryllis · 05/08/2018 20:03

I just asked dd1 - Bushes. She laughed and said it looked like a prison. Lovely though. Smile It taught us to not judge a book by the cover.

Paisleythroughandthrough · 05/08/2018 20:43

Bushes is a fab school. They always had the best Netball team. Were you living in the forces accommodation by any chance?

Paisleythroughandthrough · 05/08/2018 21:05

Not that I think I know you @Mamaryllis 😂 just thinking that it's the school for local the service family accommodation, hence not remembering which school it was etc.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 05/08/2018 23:15

My Dh went to Bushes Primary in the 70s/early 80s. His parents were nursing staff at Dykebar and there were hospital houses in Glenburn.
