The Dome?

MrsPworkingmummy · 31/08/2017 18:54

Number One at The Balmoral? Their tasting menu is devine, but it is expensive (I think our bill was around £470 for two, once we'd added the wine pairing and a cheese course).

PUGaLUGS · 31/08/2017 18:55

How about Restaurant Mark Greenaway?

We had lunch there on a day trip up and it was lovely.

IMissGin · 31/08/2017 18:55

grainstore, divino's, monteiths, pompadour or galvin brasserie, the honours, cafe st honore, scram and scallie.

All fab

PUGaLUGS · 31/08/2017 18:56

here

This place is tiny and in a cellar, but last time we went the food was completely amazing Smile

Ditto Restaurant Mark Greenaway. I went a couple of years ago and it was superb.

Viviennemary · 31/08/2017 19:02

I think you'd be lucky to get in anywhere swanky at the last minute unless you can pull strings. Friday night seems to be very busy everywhere.

Lidlfix · 31/08/2017 19:03

Chapter One in Eyre Square. Bramble for a cocktail on the way down.

But keep both to yourself- my little secrets Wink

Faints....

I was thinking of not more than £100? dont want to take the mickey.

am I likely to get a table at this notice?

central best. Walking from Balmoral after cocktails.

New Chapter even oops. That's your price range or Michael Neave kitchen and Whiskey Bar.

pinkingshears · 31/08/2017 19:07

Cant pull strings no.
have feeling that my idea of 'swanky' is a bit more modest than most folks Blush

just want nice relaxing meal. good food, peaceful. not pretentious.
not too noisy!!!!
not French. not Scottish. not seafood (apparantly these are the criteria)

Is the Dome too expensive? I think £100 plus drinks might be okay?

L'Escargot Bleu in Broughton - only 10 min walk from centre. Not terribly swanky but very French and really nice food. The Stockbridge in Stockbridge - slightly further out but a bit posher/small portions/modern European. Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge is also really good - modern but with a Scottish twist. Lasal is a very good little Spanish restaurant in Howden Street (between Pleasance and Clerk Street) - tapas and paella, delicious. Or Pomegranate opposite the Playhouse Theatre; not swanky but very good Lebanese/Middle Eastern food, BYO.

Ontopofthesunset · 31/08/2017 19:18

Oops, just seen the not French. Forget the French suggestion.

FannyFifer · 31/08/2017 19:26

Tigerlily?

IMissGin · 31/08/2017 19:31

The dome food is a bit crap generally. Given update I'd consider monteiths, scran & scallie, divino or galvin brasserie off my original list. Look at contini, the outsider & angels with bagpipes too.

MoMandaS · 31/08/2017 19:36

Rhubarb in Prestonfield was amazing when we went (just worked out it was 9 years ago though! ) but not sure how central it is.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 31/08/2017 19:38

Wedgewood on the Royal Mile

gingercat02 · 31/08/2017 19:48

We got an early walk in table at Scran and Scallie om Saturday just gone. Food amazing and reasonable prices. It's Tom Kitchin's gastro pub. I doubt you wil get anywhere "swanky" centrally if you haven't booked for a Friday or less than £100. Edinburgh is expensive

Holidayhooray · 31/08/2017 19:49

Tomorrow?

If it is half way decent, it would have been booked up for a few weeks now

pinkingshears · 31/08/2017 19:51

THANK YOU.

Balmoral for cocktails.
Then Dome (Club Room - is that nice?) for Dinner as main room full.

I've not been out for a fancy dinner for 20 years (can you tell, by my £?) so it will be a treat. With a really good platonic friend too.

Cant wait!!!

@pinkingshears Yes I know!!! Mega expensive, but it was our 'mini-moon' shortly after our wedding, so a real treat. I don't know whether we'd go there again TBH - we were both so drunk by the end of it, the quality of food didn't really matter. Ha! My absolute favourite restaurant near Edinburgh is the Ship on the Shore down in Leith - super seafood and reasonably priced, but probs not suitable for your guests as it specialises in seafood.
