Juniper in the Royal British Hotel is lovely. It's opposite the Princes Mall. I believe their restaurant next door called Twenty is good too.

Trooperslane · 28/11/2016 13:29

the Dome is amazing at this time of year

Groovee · 28/11/2016 16:15

Think you need to book the Dome. I had to book in September for my birthday lunch which is costing £40 grumble grumble.

HuckfromScandal · 28/11/2016 16:21

The Dome!

Have a look at the Witchery, right beside the castle and very gothic. It does a lunch deal that is not too expensive, www.thewitchery.com/

the Dome is fully booked, looks lovely as well Sad

A Room in the Town or a Room in the West End - Scottish & absolutely lovely!!

ssd · 29/11/2016 08:15

is it possible to go into the witchery just for a drink?

I love the place but the food is too fancy for me, I'm a really plain eater Blush

We have eaten at the Tower restaurant, sister restaurant of the Witchery and it was quite frankly awful and completely lacking in atmosphere. We are in Edinburgh for the weekend soon and also looking for somewhere decent to eat. Might consider the Witchery. Agree about the Dome, it looks lovely at this time of year too.

3nationsfamily · 29/11/2016 18:17

No unfortunately it is not possible to go to the Witchery just for a drink A it has no bar as such , just restaurant

wowwee123 · 29/11/2016 18:23

We just eat here on our trip there last week and it was gorgeous

Whighams wine cellars is cosy and does lovely food. DH and I loved it and we are taking our DDs there before going to the ballet just after Christmas.

The Whisky Society on Queen Street. You don't need to be a member anymore and the food in the restaurant and the bar are both fantastic.

RockyBird · 29/11/2016 19:05

The Dome

Was there a couple of weeks ago. It's all Christmassy and lovely. It even smells like Christmas 🎄

RockyBird · 29/11/2016 19:06

Sorry missed that it's fully booked. You might still get into the front bar for a G&T...

LizzieMacQueen · 29/11/2016 19:07

Valvona & Crolla on Multrees walk is cosy/intimate, not too far from the ice rink at St Andrews Square, and a short hop from the high-end shops if that's your thing.

MorrisZapp · 29/11/2016 19:07

Anywhere on George Street will be gorgeous at this time of year. The bar at Le Monde has a roaring fire. For a tasty lunch you can't beat Chez Jules on Hanover Street. It's cosy mind, you'll be touching elbows with fellow diners.

Groovee · 29/11/2016 19:14

The club room at the dome is still open serving the usual grill room menu. Don't think you need to book for that x

daftbesom · 29/11/2016 19:56

I like the Queen's Arms in Frederick Street. (You might need to book)

WankersHacksandThieves · 29/11/2016 20:04

Not been for many years, but the Greyfriars Bobby pub used to be quite nice and not too far from town.

wowwee123 · 29/11/2016 20:12

What day are you going? We were there Thursday Friday and a lot of the eating / drinking places get very busy. There was a few we couldnt get a seat in so may be worth booking beforehand when you have picked somewhere.

Btw the Dome is beautiful inside and you may be able to get a drink but the christmas meal, ive had better.

blueskyinmarch · 29/11/2016 20:23

The Devils Advocate in the old town is also great for a drink but I have never eaten there.
