My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Poor DD has 3 of her exams over 2 days, pity they aren't more spaced out a bit, but I guess it's just the way they fall.

DD is planning on going into school in the mornings when she has afternoon exams, not sure if that is the best plan, but I will be happier knowing that she is actually up and out since i will be at work and wont mean i have to keep phoning and checking that she is up/left! Grin

Just said to DD1 gosh it is your first exam next Wed -that's a week - do you think you're ready - and she said maybe..Hmm
Its English the next day ...she said I've got that sorted ...then Maths - I should pass - I guess... French - should be ok ...Chemistry - I'll have to work on that, Drama - I don't care....
So do you think you ought to start revising then? When do you plan on making a start?
Shoulder shrug and disappeared off to mess around on her phone.
Trying not to get stressy with her ...but it is bloody hard ...

Groovee · 26/04/2016 18:25

I feel your pain unlucky!

We're having stress with the highers choosing. Because the adjacent school hasn't had the take up required to run higher biology, it looks like Dd will have to drop biology and do higher dance instead. The only other school which was an option has been closed and has kids over 4 different schools and they've said they don't wish to enter talks which is fair enough.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 26/04/2016 22:43

The reality and horror of going through this again for the next two years...but with two of them.... and a further year after that with DS2 is starting to sink in. Think it might kill me off :(

hidingwithwine · 27/04/2016 07:00

DS1 got better marks than he expected (or his teacher) for his Higher Graph Comm assignment, which has spurred him on for the exam. The fact that DS didn't get the results he thought he'd get last August mean he's got his head down studying and attending extra study classes this year.

Next year we have him in S6 and DD in S4. I think I need to stockpile wine from now on really might have said that earlier in the thread too

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 10:53

Last day in school here. DS2 moves to S4 on Tuesday though as usual he has no timetable and as at yesterday after school, he didn't know which classroom his registration class will be in. DS1 has been told they will get their S5 timetable on the day they go back after study leave - he also doesn't know where his registration class will be.

Groovee · 29/04/2016 10:59

Last day here too. Dd was running late Angry.

She's back for induction on the 2nd if June.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 11:21

Our 5th and 6th years return on the 6th of June - there seem to be some stuff set up for the 6th years that week but I think for the new 5th years it's just bau. They are in for 3 and a bit weeks and then on holiday.

Ds2 panicking mostly about how he will tie his new tie next week :o

hidingwithwine · 29/04/2016 12:40

S4/5/6 need to go on Tuesday, then off until 7th June ready to start their next timetable. DS1 will be S6 and I'm still waiting to hear what the arrangements are the getting the braid put on his blazer Hmm

prettybird · 29/04/2016 12:53

Ds was celebrating that today was the last day of his S4 timetable. Less than a week to go until Exam No.1 Shock

YoScience · 29/04/2016 17:50

Dd's maths teacher put on a. Hour supported study class after school tonight and only DD turned up. So she had a full hour 1 to 1 and has come home far more confident.

She struggles with Maths, so I'm feeling pleased for her.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 17:53

That was good then Yo that will make such a difference to her studying now. . DS1 got 97% in the prelim so thinks he doesn't need to revise Maths Hmm

YoScience · 29/04/2016 18:19

That was brilliant, I can see why he is feeling confident! Grin

DD only scraped through the prelim by the skin of her teeth so hopefully today will have help. It's not like her to be so willing to stay behind she's usually first out the door to meet up with her pals so I'm glad she hung around!

She off out tonight wearing clear glass glasses that she bought on eBay as she thinks they make her look clever!! Hmm

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 18:30

His is a game of two halves. He got similar for Physics and Engineering and then there is the rest....

I think a lot of it is confidence though so that will stand her in good stead.

I remember getting my first pair of glasses and feeling similar, then my mum knocked the smirk of my face by saying "it's a pair of glasses not a magic wand" Shock :o

prettybird · 29/04/2016 18:31

Good on your dd for turning up Yo

Ds came second in the December Maths prelim - much to his and his Maths teacher's surprise (he's in the top set but not one of the Maths geeks). Grin

Fortunately Wink he didn't do quite so well in the "follow up" Prelims just before the Spring Break (the once that would be used if there were any issues with the exam) because he made a few silly mistakes.

So even though he's finding it difficult to think about studying for it because he's finding it easy, he knows not to be complacent.

He tried to divide and conquer dh and me yesterday, by telling both of us separately that he was going to see a film next Saturday. Fortunately both us, separately, said exactly the same thing: "Great. It'll be good for you to have a bit of down time after two important exams". Smile

I think he was expecting to have an argument about it Confused

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 18:33

DSs have Scouts tonight and he has a coding thing tomorrow - that's his downtime sorted. :o

prettybird · 29/04/2016 18:49

Dis and dh are off to the Warriors Game tonight Smile

Ds is able to use his studying as the excuse reason not to go to his cousin's 1st Communion (or is it his Confirmation? I'm a heathen Wink) Unfortunately dh and I don't have that excuse Hmm

Groovee · 29/04/2016 19:43

This time next week, Dd will be one down!

prettybird · 29/04/2016 19:48

Ds will be two down, 5 to go Smile

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 19:52

same for us prettybird It's the dreaded two first. Then I think he will be happier until the Art essay in the last week.

dotdotdotmustdash · 29/04/2016 20:20

Last 'proper' day of school for my 6th year Dd today and it was a disaster! The fire alarm was set off 4 times in total and while they were assembled outside in the 5th and 6th years were all told they weren't getting back in to the building, and all before noon!

Apparently there was an SQA dance assessment going on and several of the 6th years still had nabs to complete so there were hundreds of them trying to get back in through reception and being turned away with much crying and a few panic attacks (I think that was just the staff!).

Just had a long text from the school with a statement about how challenging today had been and warning that they would be investigating the alarm raisers and prosecutions would follow.

What a horrible ending to 6 good years. The school got a new Headteacher a couple of years ago and the behaviour and morale has plummeted since then. Under the old Head the senior's last day was always a bit of fun.

Groovee · 29/04/2016 20:30

Oh Dot that sounds horrific.

dotdotdotmustdash · 29/04/2016 20:34

It really does unfortunately. This afternoon was supposed to be a reception with nibbles for the year group, the hoodies and yearbooks were to be distributed and the kids were going to present the 'unofficial' awards. A couple of weeks ago the management said they couldn't do it today and they were moving it to next Tuesday, after they had all finished and a day before some of them had exams. If they had just stuck to finishing the day on a positive note it would have resulted in much better behaviour. Apparently there was a mass chant outside of 'Get xxxxxxxx (previous Head) back'. Not nice.

prettybird · 29/04/2016 20:37

Ds is not looking forward to English but he'll do ok.

Geography is one of his favourite subjects.

His main complaint is that both exams involve a large amount of writing. Hmm

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/04/2016 20:47

Oh dear that sounds terrible Dot

Pb DS hates Geography, he never wanted to do it and hasn't enjoyed it. He'll do fine in English it's just the amount of writing as you say - although he will be typing :)
