My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Rather relieved that others found paper one of Nat5 Maths tricky and not just DS2. He never looks back and doesn't do social media so haven't had any feedback from his peers, his impression was the same as Haudyerwheest's. Oh well four down, three to go.

Groovee · 15/05/2016 17:19

Party went well. Dd and my niece and the girls who came looked very relaxed and enjoyed themselves. Dd now preparing for work experience.

weegiemum · 15/05/2016 18:08

I now know a awful lot about how to apply for a job via letter in French! Dd has worked hard at this one, thank goodness.

Ds still won't let me help with his French but he does seem to have done a fair bit of studying for it and is more confident about it while Lao looking forward to burning his notes tomorrow afternoon Wink

He's hoping that the they're not going to be as pernickety and requiring mind reading with the expected answers as they were in the Prelim, when the correct answer to "What IT equipment do you find in schools?" (Or something like that) was not "PCs and tablets" but "tablets for the pupils and smart boards for the teachers" Hmm

prettybird · 16/05/2016 16:27

Ds back from the French exam. He says the reading and writing was "meh" and the listening paper was "double meh". But he says everyone else found it tough.

He'd done a fair amount of work in advance for it after dh had unwisely offered a significant incentive if he got an A but he's not sure now if he's even passed it.

I think he will have passed - but probably not an A, given his lack of confidence.

Chemistry next. He's confident about it.

Kr1stina · 16/05/2016 16:49

Glad to hear he's survived French . Is he dropping it now or taking in in 5th year ? Because meh doesn't sound too enthusiastic .

Chemistry next here too ( last one ) . DD is pretending to do past papers while watching you tube videos about hair styling . It's my fault because I have failed to train her to perform femininity Grin

prettybird · 16/05/2016 17:09

He's currently burning all his notes, never to be looked at again! Grin (Actually Sad from my perspective - it's a shame he's not been enthused by his French teacher)

He already knows what he'll be doing for his Highers: English which I won't let him drop, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Geography.

Groovee · 16/05/2016 17:11

More out the way for you guys. Dd's last one is next week.

Kr1stina · 16/05/2016 17:23
Grin

That's what DD did this time last year with computing , which she hated.

I allowed her to burn the notes but I intervened and rescued the textbooks . This is quite unreasonable of me I know but I have ishoos about burning books ( my generation I think) .

So she permitted me take the books to the charity shop where they probably sent them for recycling

He's still chuntering on about the Maths exam he really should let it go - saying it was all in the curriculum. One of his rugby friends (at a different school) was saying the same thing at the weekend.

I did hear from another parent that apparently Williamwood is putting in a formal complaint. Don't know how true that is. It might reflect badly on their teaching if it really was in the curriculum: would suggest they'd chosen to teach to previous exams silly when there have only been two rather than ensuring understanding across the curriculum and of how to apply it (which is what I thought the principle of CfE was: applying the knowledge, not just learning it by rote).

OneMagnumisneverenough · 16/05/2016 17:35

DS says that his geeky pals all thought the maths was fine too - proof of the pudding will be in the tasting...

No exams this week for us.

Kr1stina · 16/05/2016 17:35

Apparently the maths teachers at jordanhill agree with your son - that it was in the curriculum

BTW this comes via someone who works in the primary school so is staffroom gossip rather than the school's official position Grin

seb1 · 16/05/2016 18:12

DD had French today so that is English, Maths & French out if the way just Chemistry, History, Physics & Computing Science to go, roll on the 27th !!!!

unlucky83 · 16/05/2016 19:55

DD did French today ...she is in a vile mood - said her usual 'it was OK I guess ' but I suspect she struggled (and it is something she is good at but she did no revision)
She has chemistry on Wed and I have been trying to get her to do some work but she says there is no point -she is going to fail any way - she's going to fail them all...and doesn't care...
She locked herself in her bedroom at around 5.30pm and we haven't seen or heard from her since - but I know she is playing on her phone and not revising ...
She has one more after this - next week - Drama which she has work to do for and it is another one that she is likely to fail...
I agree - I can't wait for this to be over now....

prettybird · 16/05/2016 20:17

Studying came easily to me, so I can't imagine how demoralising feeling like there's no hope must be. Your dd must be going through an awful time - never mind her mum!

I do remember learning to say "I got what I hope for" in some company rather than my actual result Hmm

weegiemum · 16/05/2016 21:15

Dd was quite pleased with the french exam, but glad to have it over. She has 3 days now until history on friday, to cover the 3 topics in revision. I've really been impressed with how hard she's worked these last few weeks. Just wish she'd put as much effort into maths as art! Physics next week, another lowish point for her, another one she won't be sad to see the back of!

So did no-one have any exams today?

M1ssunderstood · 17/05/2016 16:44

I sat the maths exam (mature student). If it was all in the curriculum we didn't get taught it. I have signed the online petition as it's people's futures at stake.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 17/05/2016 16:44

Judging by the emptiness of the school car park today, Nn :)

Just checked the school timetable, the only exam on today was Advanced Higher in Mathematics of Mechanics. Not sure if there were any more that our school just didn't have any candidates for.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 17/05/2016 16:45

That should have been No

PurpleFrog · 17/05/2016 16:52

Apart from the AH Maths paper the SQA timetable also says "Administration and IT" and Urdu...

OneMagnumisneverenough · 17/05/2016 16:59

Chemistry tomorrow and the I think it will be quiet on Thursday as it seems to be English for Speakers of Other Languages and then Friday is History.

None of those feature in my house but good luck for all those sitting those this week.

wigglybeezer · 17/05/2016 17:03

Chemistry for DS2 tomorrow, we have learned from the maths exam and I have nagged DS to check for topics that are under- represented in the past papers and refresh his memory. He has Aspergers and is a bit literal minded, I had told him doing past paper's was the best preparation but after working his way through them all he claims to have run out of revision to do! Luckily he has a very good memory as he is also rather resistant to advice from me!

prettybird · 17/05/2016 17:47

I do get the impression with the Maths exam that, given that there are many pupils and teachers saying that it was in the curriculum that the fault lies with some teachers who were either trying to question spot and taught to that or who didn't understand the curriculum. Both of which disadvantaged their pupils Sad

Ds says that when he asked one of his friends why she'd signed the petition even though they'd covered the work in class, she answered that it might make the SQA drop the pass marks/grade boundaries Hmm

He told her she was stupid naive and that the SQA wasn't going to be influenced by a petition and that any adjustment would be made as part of the standard adjustments to ensure the appropriate distribution of marks.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 17/05/2016 17:57

I wondered if it was a bit like other subjects where they won't necessarily cover all the syllabus and have to hope that the right stuff comes up but when I thought more, that's usually the topics where there is a choice of questions or questions where you can adapt what you've learned to fit. So not Maths. DS seemed happy it was all covered as far as he was concerned.
