Hi all.

As title says - strange question I am hoping someone will have the answer to!

I was at junior school in Edinburgh from 1976-1983 n I recall vividly getting milk n a biscuit each day n therein lies my question. Did anyone receive n do u remember the biscuits?

They were square n caramel flavoured. No layer or filling etc, the actual biscuit was toffee/caramel flavour. My mum remembers them so u could obviously get them in shops at the time too, she thinks they were simply called caramel squares but when u google that u get millionaires shortbread type references.

These little squares were lush!! I live in England now tho always look for them in shops when home but to no avail. Has anyone a clue? Have I made the whole thing up? Would love to find them again if not!

Thank u x

The weird gritty dry soap was another oddity from the time.

Milk and mouthwash - which came in various "flavours" all of which were vile. And there was always the one kid who swallowed it Hmm

And in the winter, the top of your milk was always frozen!

We got Glengarry biscs with milk....well, not me cos I wouldn't drink the milk! I started school in the sixties (sorry, no help I know) and the milk came in small bottles. The janitor brought it in a crate into the classroom and someone got chosen to to put the holes in the foil top with, what looked like a plastic knitting needle and put the straws in! I loved that job.....

Ooo, you've just given me a Proustian rush!

I was in primary school in Lancashire in the 80s and remember the milk cartons with biscuit just before Thatcher get rid of it.

I remember milk and biscuit time fondly :) think I was in Y2 when they scrapped it. The biscuit was like a cross between malted milk and a rich tea biscuit.

Olddear r Glengarry biscuits sort of shortbread?

Yes, Glengarry biscuits were like shortbread, round, fluted edge if I remember....

No biscuits in Aberdeenshire 1970-74 or Angus 1974-77, but milk came in plastic bags from P5, and were stored on the radiator! Sad Still can't face it unless it is freezing cold!

goldglittershitter · 01/09/2015 22:55

Yes olddear, they were nice. Think they r out of production now too Sad

sliced that is manky about the milk! Sorry u never got biscuits either.

I was in Primary school in Edinburgh City Centre from 1974-81. I remember warm milk (we used to shake it to make butter) but we didn't get biscuits.

I do had horrible memories of pink custard though. Gross.

No biscuits, but we had glass bottles of milk. Hideous thick stuff, warm in summer, partially frozen in winter, absolutely rank and the thought of drinking milk makes me feel queasy to this day. I have a minimal amount of skimmed milk on cereal but that's pretty much it.

I remember throwing up after lunch one day. I'm sure the gloopy macaroni cheese for lunch on top of warm gloopy milk at playtime had pushed me over the edge of dairy overload.
