@ScottishBeeswax 24th JUNE?! What local authority are you?

Glasgow is 24th as is S. Lanarkshire but return on 17th August.

We are 29th June to 22nd August in Ayrshire.

22nd July SE England state school (one of the joys of pulling them out of private to state was the shorter hols!)
23rd June niece finishing GCSEs .
I can't believe some of you in Scotland and Ireland having massive holidays I never knew!

I believe Scotlands aren't particularly longer than Englands they just start and finish much earlier.

Assume you have a local holiday somewhere else in the year as that ls 6.5weeks and other parts of Scotland can be 7.5weeks?

I love going away for our ‘September weekend’ as most places still in school etc.

Oddsocks55 · 13/06/2022 07:10

22 July for my year 7.
28 July for my year 5.
North west England

Scottish local authorities go on a sort of rota for an extra week in the Summer. Our LA has the extra week in 2020 when the kids went back after the first lockdown. From memory, it comes round every 5 or 6 years.

RampantIvy · 13/06/2022 07:27

If DD was still at school it would be 20th July (state school, South Yorkshire)

ScottishBeeswax · 13/06/2022 07:53

West Lothian @YerAWizardHarry
It's always last Friday in June

bumpytrumpy · 13/06/2022 07:53

26th July Confused Looks like that's the latest date posted. It always annoys me we're the last to break up

Scotland don't have massive holidays, it's just ours are earlier @User1234567891011121314

tigger1001 · 13/06/2022 08:04

Is 6-7 weeks particularly long in comparison to England?

I thought it was just that we finish up earlier and return earlier in Scotland. I didn't realise your holidays were less than 6 weeks.

Yodaisawally · 13/06/2022 08:26

Wednesday 20th July, a day early because of the day for the Jubilee.

We now get two weeks at October so the summer holiday is shorter. We get around 5.5 weeks

lightunderthesea · 13/06/2022 08:50

3rd June-15september. Italy- 15 weeks!

YerAWizardHarry · 13/06/2022 09:08

@Alwayspaintyournails am in Aberdeen/shire and we are 1st July and the kids go back the 23rd August. I know it’s a 7 week year but seems extra long somehow! I remember being at school and our holidays being around the 4th July - 16th August

YerAWizardHarry · 13/06/2022 09:11

@ScottishBeeswax it’s funny how it varies, where we are I can’t remember ever finishing in June! Does that mean that on a usual 6 week holiday you’re back around the 10th August?

I wish I could fathom them out 😳🤣

South Ayrshire seems to have always been 25th/29th June to 16th/22nd Aug.

I am lucky that DH’s job means we only need childcare for one week each year.

zoopigi · 13/06/2022 12:35

My son finished his exams on 27 may (high school) daughter finished 8th June. They go back to school 9th September. That's a whole lot of summer hols! D's has to do 4 weeks of work experience though this year so that will break it up a little. I'm in Cyprus

itssquidstella · 13/06/2022 12:36

July 8th but I'm on maternity leave so I’ve been off since May 15th woohoo!

MrsPear · 13/06/2022 12:54

22nd July - London borough

MrsPear · 13/06/2022 12:55

Oh and back on the 1st

Bunnyfuller · 13/06/2022 13:01

DD1 27 June, DD2 24 June, one at college, one nearing the end (thank fucking everything) of GCSEs.

NeedAHoll · 13/06/2022 13:03

24 June is the last day here… kind of dreading it as having the kids home is a lot harder than getting them off to school/nursery. It means no ‘me time’ for me

easyday · 13/06/2022 13:04

July 8 - private school.

No it's never that early @YerAWizardHarry
Usually between 15th-18th august. Think it's 16th this year.

Yes it all so different.
We are in an area with 1 week off in October and long weekend in Feb. I know some councils get 2 weeks in Oct or 1 week off in Feb.
